If so, greetings on behalf of Monday through Friday! I almost never post on weekends - I usually only post when I’m at work (I happen to be working today). Anyways, I have always had this odd idea that there was a whole community of Weekend Dopers that I’ve never had the pleasure of interacting with. To you, Weekend Dopers, I say HUZZAH!
Interesting that you should ask! Perhaps this old thread will help answer your question a bit.
FWIW I check in almost daily every day, unless somehow I’m away from the computer for personal reasons or if there’s a heavy TV schedule that day – as in college football season.
Heh. Your post made it to Monday afternoon! Think this one will? I kind of doubt it. It’s reassuring that I’m not the only one who’s noticed there are two worlds of the SDMB.

“I see I’ve got a few minutes. Goin’ to step out and grab a quick breakfast dog and coffee before the roll call. Can I pick up somethin’ for you while I’m out?”

In another life, before I went White Collar/High Tech Industry, I drove professionally (for Roadway). I can tell you, from professional experience, that the Official Breakfast of the Road™ is Donuts above the Mason-Dixon Line, and Sausage-on-a-Biscuit below the Mason-Dixon Line (although Bagles are gaining in popularity and may soon displace the Donut’s stranglehold on first place).
And, for the record, the Martini is still the Breakfast of Champions™.
West of the Rockies, it’s hard to find a decent donut that hasn’t been sitting in the case for two weeks (or frozen and thawed 22 times before being put in the case for two weeks), and Sausage-on-a-Biscuit isn’t even an option out here. (No fast food places have drive thru for big trucks, let alone doubles. Besides, the fast food places never seem to open before 6:00 am - that’s time for lunch!)
Having been there, you know that truck stops have the worst ‘quick food’ on the planet, so I spent some time and convinced the local convience stores to get the hotdogs out early.
Martini? Not while I’m workin’.
[SIDEBAR]Curious. Why’d ya get out of the profession?[/SIDEBAR]
Never made it out there. I did all my driving in Boston, Atlanta, and Tampa areas. And: Drive Thru?!? I’d just stop on the side of the road and hope I didn’t get hasselled by the local Mounties for impeding traffic!
So, you’re saying you got something against heartburn?
Yeah. High tech is better. 4:30 to 5:00 pm on Fridays, I round up my team, we sit in my office, listen to Rock n Roll, and have a beer. It’s nice.
I had bum knees going into the business, and came out of it with bum knees, a sore back, and tennis elbow X 2. Plus, I craved something more intense and I needed an outlet for my unquenchable thirst for knowledge (yup, I know how goofy that sounds) - as long as I stay in High Tech, I’ll never run out of things I need to learn to keep my edge, and I can apply new concepts I’ve learned almost right away - Instant Gratification!
That’s what I get by dodging the four wheelers: New concepts that I can apply right away …
(Something like, 2000 pound econo car pulls out infront of 120,000 pound double tanker doing 70 mph. Hmmmmm. Wasn’t aware that they’d rewritten the laws of physics to exept your funky butt…)
Don’t get that much in this business. Running said four wheeler down and returning it to it’s “recycled aluminum can state” is still frowned upon in these parts.
::Meanwhile, back at the OP::
Soooooooo, when’s everybody else (the other weekenders) going to show up?
This site is blocked at work by the ever-vigilant Air Force (I’m a contractor), so I only get to post in the evening or on the weekend, much to many members’ joy.
