Self-employed, big deadline next week. Working. I’ll miss the midmorning excitement that is the daily mail delivery.
3 veterans in my office. We’re all working.
Seems like vets should get like, free drinks, flowers, limo service, etc. provided by non vets. I’ve ALWAYS wondered why non-veterans get Veteran’s Day off. Anyone care to shed light on that?
I’d answer this question, but my boss might get pissed if he caught me surfing the net.
Working. Well, goofing off. It’s lunch time.
I’m a financial DBA for a government contractor. While most of the people who work out in the field have the day off, most of the corporate employees are here. Therefore, I must be, too.
Veteran here, unfortunately still working. But I’m self-employed and I’ve got some critical stuff to get out ASAP. Well, not that critical, as I’m still posting here…
I might take some time off in the afternoon, though, to walk around downtown. I’ve been meaning to visit the Wisconsin Veteran’s Museum, so that might be cool and apropos to the day.
I work for the State, too, and we have the day off. My wife just called me from work to say that she has to stay late and work overtime. Poor baby!
Another veteran, working.
That it’s a really slow day isn’t surprising. A large majority of our customers are military.
Another non-working government worker checking in.
Alas, LilMiss had school today. There are only two holidays when I have off and she doesn’t- today and Presidents Day.
I celebrated by hitting the local secondhand store which has everything 50% off on holidays.
(I did check my work voicemail, which I changed to “You have reached [MissTake]. Our office will be CLOSED Thursday, November 11th in honor of Veteran’s Day”. Two messages state they need me to call them back today. :smack: )
Another working vet here. Actually I’m working voluntarily, trading today for the Friday after Thanksgiving off. It’s working out well, I’m on an Air Force base, so everyone else is gone, and I’m getting an incredible ammount of work done.
I may ask to work holidays more often.
I’m at work. I had Columbus Day off, though, so it balances out. I guess.
I’d answer the OP’s question, but I’m too busy with working today and all.
My company doesn’t have holidays (everyone has one big pool of “paid time off” that we use as we see fit), so we’re business-as-usual today. On most “holidays” we’ll get notification that the building won’t be open to the public (we have card key access in those cases) or that we won’t have front desk coverage or something, but we didn’t even get that today. The deli on the first floor of the building across from ours seemed pretty busy an hour ago, too. I don’t think many people (in general) took today off.
I’m just really happy that I remembered to put my flag out before I left today (I usually forget).
Oops, gotta go to my 1:30 meeting!
I’m a librarian at an art museum and I don’t have the day off. I wouldn’t have known it was Veteran’s Day except I was twenty minutes late to work because I didn’t know there was a parade downtown. It’s not a big holiday here in the South, I don’t know anybody who had the day off.
I’m at work. Pretty quiet though, so I’ll get some homework done.
The clinic I tutor at is closed today. I don’t know why. I’m not seeing the obvious connection between tutoring and veterans. If memory serves, we didn’t take off Labor Day, so why today?
I live in Montreal, and I work in the global secusrities industry.
Verdict= Day off.
Yipee!
oops, i meant “securities”
I’m at work. I’m ALWAYS at work. Never get a day off much less holidays. Vacation? HAH. Sick days, HAH!NEVER any days off…
At least for the next 16 years. Such is the life of a stay at home mom… :smack:
Yes and no.
I had a test at 9:30 this a.m.
After I came home and went back to sleep until 3 because I didn’t have to go to work at the campus library.
I hate a.m. classes.
