But she was supposed to have had plastic surgery long before the first part of the series aired. Like, in her late teens or early twenties. That was mentioned plenty of times early on.
Has it been confirmed that she’s had plastic surgery, or is that just the conclusion everyone’s decided to jump to? Because everyone on the show looks a little different, not just Portia, but I haven’t heard any criticism of anyone else. I just chalked it up to the wig she was wearing for most of the early episodes, and normal aging. She still looks fucking hot.
I await your detailed analysis of David Cross’ face.
There was that scene and another one in a later episode (which slips my mind right now) that poked fun at her plastic surgery. They do indeed acknowledge it.
Well he does look puffier.
Increasingly bad sign. I still haven’t picked up again after watching the first two episodes on Sunday.
Noticed True Blood on HBO Go and have been binging on that instead (which is sad, because it is stupid, but still can’t find the gumption to get back to AD).
I beginning to think the topic title should be re-edited to say “Don’t give up after the first three episodes!”
Is “Get this, Bevery Hills” the new “Her?” for this show? Not a joke, but just a thing they work in?
I assume Google was not consulted and the show just thought it was funnier to blur them and pretend they were banned.
Doesn’t that happen to us all in time, despite our best efforts? Don’t we all have a thin man inside us?
well played, sir.
Everyone else looks older. Portia looks like another person.
It is gauche and thoughtless, at best, to comment on someone’s looks when that person has a history of anorexia and body dysmorphia.
Almost finished with season four, and I feel the distinct need to re-watch it in order to “get” it. Which doesn’t happen often with TV shows. I think it’s a good thing.
On second read, I think I need to dial back my outrage a bit. That comment wasn’t meant for you Yookeroo – it was directed more at the many many articles I’ve seen popping up about Portia’s “new face,” without acknowledging her past issues, or her male counterparts’ changing appearances.
People here have mentioned Steve Holt looking very different, and even attribute that to weight gain. I think even the actor would agree to as much. Nobody’s making a big deal about him having gained a few. It happens.
Portia does look like another person, and it has nothing to do with her weight. If she had work done because of her past issues, then fine. She was cool enough with it being joked about in season 4, so why is anyone here being intensive? It’s like what happened to Jennifer Grey, except she never reprised the role of Baby.
People jumped all over Jonah Hill for *losing * weight to the point he was unrecognizable. When people in the limelight undergo significant appearance changes, to the point where you can’t tell it’s them or not, of course it will be discussed.
The closest thing to deriding her appearance might be the comparisons to Calista Flockheart, whose weight issues have been well documented, but I think even those references were only that Portia looks more like her now, not that there’s a “too skinny” issue.
If you don’t agree that Portia has a “new face” you seem to be in the minority. What her reasons for making such changes are, is her business. Nobody has cast a single judgment about her decision that I’ve noticed.
Having her face on TV is her job. Watching her show is what many of us choose to do, and commenting on the show is the purpose of this thread. If you have personal reasons for being upset at people noticing something about a TV star’s appearance on film, that’s on you. It’s not like we’re dishing on candid photos.
Do what you will with your outrage, but I think there are far more deserving targets out there than this one.
FTR, I mentioned Calista Flockhart in the beginning of the thread (no idea if that’s been said in other parts of the net). I was referencing nothing other then her face and specifically her nose.
Also, WRT Steve Holt, they made a big joke about him looking different as well in that even Gob didn’t recognize him for a while.
This was an odd post to write in response to French Toast’s acknowledgment that his/her comments were better directed at people not participating in this thread.
Heck, I certainly didn’t.
Maybe I’m face-blind!
Which is why I said
What I meant by that was that there are many celebrities that have been targeted for unfair reasons due to possible conditions (Oprah, Callista, Kirstie Alley, Kate Winslet, Scarlett Johansson) where outrage may be applicable. Portia’s differing appearance seems to be one of her choosing, and is not the same situation as those where people are making crass judgements based on weight, age or other.
Even in other venues, there are much bigger fish to fry than talking about her new look. Maybe people in other forums are saying awful things, but if I had to choose a battle, I would start with more egregious and superficial attacks on those that are just dealing with their own issues, not with those that (presumably) had elective surgery done.
Lindsay appearing to have had extensive plastic surgery just makes her her mother’s daughter.
I’m up to Episode 10. I found the first two episodes kind of slow going, but that’s how I felt the very first time I saw the original first few episodes, so I knew it would build. I’m glad I rewatched a lot of old episodes recently. Sweet, sweet callbacks.
I have been wondering in a sort of tin-foil-hat sort of way, if this was a nod to Brad Pitt’s recent admitting that he is also face blind. That seems to coincidental to me. Weird none the less.
I just heard about that as well. When did that come out? Keep in mind, these episodes were probably filmed seven or eight months ago and written a month before that and probably outlined/storyboarded close to a year ago so they could be sold to Netflix (or another bidder), though that level of detail probably didn’t come out quite that early.
OTOH, I sure it’s possible plenty of people have known that about Brad for a long time but it was never newsworthy (and probably still isn’t, anymore more then a celebrity being colorblind or bad with names), but used this opportunity to write a quick article about it hoping that people will google things like face blind or faceblindness and end up at their site.
