Artists -- art lovers -- MADS -- eccentrics of all stripes...

I sure hope it doesn’t snow on that weekend, I don’t think my reputation can withstand another Gossip Fest behind my back

Anita, do not use the s-word again in this thread. I mean it!!!

Actually, I was thinking the same thing yesterday as my sweetie and I drove around. So maybe we should have some sort of guideline - like if there’s gonna be precip and temps in the 20s, we reschedule? Or snow in excess of flurries? Or shall we just meet in this thread that morning?

Sorry, I tend to overplan stuff. Let’s just keep a happy thought, OK?

Sorry. I was planning to find this thread closer to the date and ask for a pick-up at the nearest metro stop. Kangaroo_in_Black will not be there. He will be asleep. Very asleep. He does that, you know.

Wanna ride the metro together?

As for snow, it all depends on the metro for me. I can’t get there if the metro’s not running, and the signs say they go down for 8" or more of snow. I suspect if the region has 8" of snow, the whole thing will be rescheduled.

We’re going to have to wait till closer to the time to worry about weather delays – but yeah, I think anything more than an inch or two, we should reschedule. Of course, we’re talking about a distance of a couple of hundred miles from the departure point of those furthest north to the departure point of those furthest south, which means some of us could be getting virtually nothing, and others a significant snowfall Last night, here in Philly, we got somewhere between a dusting and a quarter inch, and it didn’t start till after I got home a little before 10. It sounds like it was less benign for others of you.

So – I’d suggest we all check in the night before, after we’ve heard our local reports, and negotiate then. Also, if we – sorry, when we – decide to do it, we should ask one of the Balti-Dopers to check the thread right before coming, so we know of the last-minute cancellations and we don’t hang around waiting for someone who’s had a change of heart/plans.

Sounds like a plan to me twickster.

I would have loved to make it to this one, but that weekend my boy will be home on liberty!! So I’m out. I’ll catch the next one, I hope.

Thanks for the kind heads-up, twicks. I must decline again.

slinks away in shame

Harrumph.

That’s the last time I call you suave!

If circumstances allow I’d like to join you.

I’ll need more directions. I’ll be coming from I-70W.

I think I take I-695 (S or W?) off I-70.
Then I-95 off I-695.

Would I take I-95 North or South to get to exit 55/Key Highway

Once I get to this exit I can follow the directions from the Museum’s website.

From Washington DC and Points South
Follow I-95 north to exit 55/Key Highway. At the bottom of the ramp, make a left
onto Key Highway. The museum is 1.5 miles ahead on the corner of Key Highway
and Covington Street. (Across the street from the Rusty Scupper restaurant).
Turn left on Covington for Parking

From I-70, take 695 S to 95 N then follow the directions from the museum.

For whatever it’s worth, long range forecast calls out sunny and low 40s. Dare I predict that this will happen for real this time! YAY!

Do not tempt the weather gods. They are fickle, and not unlike the sports gods want you to become enthralled with anticipation of success immediately before planting a size 11 brogan in your keyster.

So, wh00t! Still on for this weekend, folks?

Mike, have you guesstimated whether you’ll be driving or walking? I’m sans auto, but will find my way down to AVAM regardless. I’m just prodding you first as you’re most in my range, I believe.

Or I may just bribe tdc to leave me the car.

Anyway, I hadn’t gotten in my <bump> so this is it.

I just wanted to say that i’ll be driving down there from the Johns Hopkins University/Charles Village neighborhood, and if anyone in the general vicinity needs a ride, i’d be happy to provide it.

We’re still meeting in front of the AVAM at 1pm, right?

Unfortunately…

I just found out this past weekend about a couple of family events that I’m going to have to travel to Altoona for or risk the Wrath of Mom (my sister-in-law’s baby shower and my cousin’s birthday party), so I’m going to have to beg off on this. :frowning:

Well, we’ll always have GettyDope…

Let’s say in the lobby of the museum in case the weather is anything other than balmy and delightful. Given that many of us will be traveling from a distance, the meeting time will probably be more like a range, starting as early as 12:30 or so and running till a little after 1:00. Just look for the group of happy nerds in the lobby! For those who haven’t met me – or don’t remember me from GettysDope – I’m tallish, plumpish, and have dark-brown hair (with a noticeable amount of silver) that I wear a little longer than shoulder length; I’ll be wearing either a purple parka or a “berry” down coat, depending on what the weather’s like. It looks like my friend is wussing, so it’ll just be me – I’m totally looking forward to this, though!

If anyone would like a cell phone number for last-minute communication, email me (twickster47 at yahoo dot com) and I’ll give you mine.

I’ll give this another day or so for additions and corrections to the list before I do a final roll call so we know how many people we’re looking for.

Woo hoo! This is finally going to happen!

I vote you bribe him so Alan_Smithee has a ride. Of course, I have other motivations, so…

Does anyone know if photography is permissible or not at the museum? The website didn’t say, and I haven’t called, yet.

Wait, moi lives in B’more. How will her having a car help either of us? You should be bribing Kangaroo in Black to take a taxi to work so you can drive us!

Do you need a ride? If you can get out to the Springfield Metro station I’ll pick you up.
