Artists show your work!

Thanks Stauderhorse!

Yes, Frank did a great job with the movie, he’s a really cool guy, and I think it’s one of Christian Slater’s best work as an actor. I think Showtime’s running the movie now? I did all of the talking goldfish work as well in that movie as well. It was all a ton of work (yet fun in a lot of ways), and I’m done looking at hummingbirds for about the next 23 years. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m a special effects artist, so there are a lot of examples of my work on my website.

However, I’ve lately been getting into doing charcoal drawings. Warning- these are nudes, but they’re not like incredibly high-rez or detailed… they may not be work safe, or they might be, depending on how your office is. I’ll break the links, anyway.

I put up some new work. Some are nudes. My colors aren’t quite as vivid as these appear (on my monitor anyway)- in the landscape, I kinda wish they were; but with the portraits, they’re not as harsh as they seem…

His album includes this link:

I would rock the shit out of that shirt. Please make one and discard the pattern.

Very nice.

Many thanks, gigi.

Thanks!

You have Frigits!!! I love those  I wonder where mine are? I know I saw the box when we moved…

Anyway, I’ve been painting for about 2 years as some of you know. I started doing some sculpture last spring and I’m having fun with that. I recently had some of my work printed in a photo book at winkflash.com (I had a coupon for a flat-rate instead of their usual per-page charge so it was about $30 total. Yay!) and uploaded lower resolution jpgs of the pages to my gallery for the hell of it. It gives a pretty decent overview of what I’ve done over the last 2 years across various media. (The default resolution when you click the thumbnail is very small… you can click on the numbers beneath the thumbnails to see the larger versions, and then using the next/prev links or the mini-thumbnails will take you through the album at that resolution.)

(err… had a problem, had to delete and re-upload the album. It will be there in 5 minutes, I swear)

Do you really want an honest opinion? They’re okay. They’re not bad, they’re not great. They’re a bit compositionally weak. My eye is darting around all around the place with most of the drawings–it doesn’t look like you’re giving my eye a “path” to the images. You’re not leading my eye with lines; you’re not leading it with contrast or shading. It’s very difficult for me to tell what I’m supposed to be looking at.

For a lack of a better word, the compositions don’t look balanced to me. Nor do they look intentionally and forcefully unbalanced. They just look unsure.

There is way more to a drawing than the composition of it. There’s also stuff like the detail of objects in the drawing, the contrast of black and white, the precision of the lines, whether or not what is depicted is interesting, eye-catching, or unique in some way? Whether or not the drawing is open to some kind of interpretation by the viewer?

I try to draw things that are creative and interesting. Most people just either draw over exaggerated cartoon characters or ape other styles like all the millions of hacks who draw played out “manga” inspired crap, or they try to draw hyper realistic images of mundane things.

Yes, I understand. It just doesn’t work for me. I won’t comment any further.

Ok sorry about that–it thought there was already an album with that name, so it sequentially created a new one with “9” at the end, and then when I fixed it, I broke it. Doh! Anyway, THIS link should work.

Well thanks for looking at it, anyway. That’s all I want people to do, look at it.

Argent.

Dude.

Do you want compliments? or an honest appraisal?

I went to Art School, where the critiques were 90% negative; harsh; brutal; and therefore extremely educational.

Are you serious about your art? Do you want brutality? Or do you just do it for fun? Serious art be damned? Let me know, but don’t expect apologies afterward.

I definitely don’t expect a professional artist or someone who went to art school to be impressed by my drawings. I’m not serious about my art at all. I never had any kind of artistic training in any way. Almost all of my pictures were done in class or in other situations where I was supposed to be doing something other than drawing. So no, I’m honestly not expecting compliments, I just wanted some kind of response. I guess I’m jaded from having so many non-artists (in other words, most people) tell me how amazing the drawings are when they see me doing them.

I’m reading contradictory answers there: do you want compliments or honesty, no matter how brutal? This comes down to, how seriously do you want to improve, versus how lightly do you take your drawing as a simple diversion?

Well…I’ll ask, if you had to pick one of those drawings, which one do you like the best, and why (as opposed to the others.) That way you can be honest about what you didn’t like about them, but you have to at least pick a favorite even if you didn’t really like any of them.

I like the first one the best, because the flatness of the effect works as a kind of primitive, pattern-oriented thing. And it’s the only when without curly nostrils.
