Well, seeing as how that first one was drawn just a few days ago, whereas all of the others (the ones with the curly nostrils) were done at least four years ago, I suppose that could be taken as a sign of improvement, though it’s more likely sheer luck.
I haven’t had a chance to go through everyone’s in this thread, but I will.
Wow, I had no idea you were so prolific of an artist. Out of all of them I think my favorite is the Submerge 3 and the other 2.
Here’s a Drawing / Sketch of a character design I’d like to CG model and animate one day. Inspired from the science fiction short story Flowering Mandrake by George Turner (1994). I’d love to adapt it into a short CG animated film. Too bad the author is dead.
I really like some of those abstracts. Especially the “Abyss” ones. They’re very moody.
I like to manipulate photos
That’s fantastic! (Not to say the others are not good… just that the Fur Tree really caught my eye, the contrasting textures and colours make it look really interesting and… it made me smile).
I really like your purple orchid and the way the light shines off of the vase.
I would like to see more.
I like these.
I like a lot of what I’ve seen here. Someday… I’d like to take an art class.
Lissner, I love the blue box hat. Great photo, too.
Argent Towers, thanks for the complement. I love your workmen piece. It has a nice flow to it and interesting texture. Your style is very distinctive, which is a good thing.
Cmyk, Morty is fantastic. The texture in his face and hair is so good.
Small Hen, I like your mice. Nice composition and color.
Elfkin, the inappropriate cow is perfect. I LOVE it. In fact, I may need to buy a print. It’s the perfect Christmas painting.
OpalCat, gorgeous stuff as always.
This is a neat thread—really an impressive range of talent on this board. Thanks for the kind words, all that commented.
Argent, you seem to want comments, so here’s my comment. You’re a fine amateur, but you’re not very well-educated in an art classroom setting, and it shows. Take a figure-drawing class- your figure proportions could use some work. Your drawings are very complicated and you need to master some basics before you can expect to pull off very complicated, busy pictures like you’ve been attempting.
Also, much of your pencil work is smudgy- it would look much cleaner in ink. It can be very difficult to make clean pencil drawings. Try your hand with pen and ink and see how it goes!
Argent, you want critiques; I’ll say your work is fine. Not great, not awful. If you’re interested in pursuing art in a more serious fashion, I’d say go for it.
What I’d recommend is that you grow a thicker skin. You sound defensive here because people aren’t fawning over your work.
I’m not defensive because people aren’t fawning over the work - I was annoyed because nobody was saying ANYTHING about it.
I’m talking about your replies to the people who DID comment on your work. You gave a very defensive vibe.
And so what? There were others who didn’t get replies/comments to their posts. None of them came back and asked if anyone had looked and then reposted the same freaking links.
Before this thread turns into a pile on on me let me just say, my art sucks, I don’t care if people don’t like it, I don’t care if people don’t CARE about it, and I take back everything I said before. Just forget about it, and go on with the thread.
Hey, that’s nice stuff. Thanks for posting the links.
A lot of us who posted didn’t get any comments. You did sound very defensive to me, both in your initial “why isn’t anyone commenting” post and in what I considered to be almost a rebuttal of the comments that you did receive.
I agree, there is a lot of great work posted here. I especially like Renee’s pictures. I would buy several of those if I had a larger budget for buying art (and if my walls weren’t already covered by my admittedly inferior paintings).
I keep thinking about taking an art class too, but even the relatively short classes seem to be expensive. And I’m just too lazy to take a class. And while I don’t think I’m a great artist, I am very happy with some of my works, and I think I’m getting better. For example, I know that Damon isn’t great or original, but I think I pulled off what I was aiming for, and it was fun to work on, and I like having it hanging next to my front door (both because I think it’s a pretty painting, and because it reminds me of Damon Albarn who is so pretty).
For those of you that are looking for more critiques on your artwork, Art Wanted seems to be a decent site. If you just get the free membership, you can post three paintings a month, and people will rate and give comments on those works. Not necessarily a lot of feedback, but you will get some feedback. You can also pay for a membership and get more stuff but I haven’t done that so I don’t know much about it. Also, there’s a message board where you can post a pictures and ask for advice/critiques, and people seem to be pretty helpful on giving good critiques. Just thought y’all might like to know.
Thanks.
