As if Jesse (the Body) wasn't enough

Different people have different definitions, but there is a very good overview at religioustolerance.org

Haha, I am a Christian and I call Christianity a cult. It’s a messianic cult of Judaism. That’s not an insult, it’s just the truth. It’s a big fuckin’ cult, but it’s a cult.

–John

On the other hand, you gotta give the guy credit for making such a big sacrifice to stick to his principles.

I mean, who among us would forfeit a chance to say, “Hello, Dalai.”

You’re right, of course. I hereby retract my lunatic raving, and throw my full support behind your lunatic raving.

He is missing the opportunity of a lifetime. I mean, what if the Dalai Lama were to meet him and be overcome by the example he is setting by living his life in Christ. He might be responsbile for converting the Dalai Lama to Christianity. I can’t understand how he could pass up the chance to show the heathen what true peace and happiness through Christ is.

How can you meet your obligation to show others the light if you refuse to be in the same room with them?

Jesus, Hell, JESUS would probably be the first guy to want to meet with the Dalai Llama and philosophize.

For crying out loud. This is just insane. Extremely insane. It’s friggin’ moronic!

Tell the guy to go and read the First Ammendment…sigh

True, but they could always meet up the next time round.

Isin’t Jesse (the body) the one who claimed to be basically an atheist?

I bet you all didn’t know that the Dalai Lama has but one requirement when visiting a new city, and that is that he be provided with a special little chocolate confection that he really loves. In fact, during his last stop, in Wisconsin I think it was, a little kid got caught stealing one of the little morsels. Just as the kid was making his getaway, he was caught by one of the Dalai Lama’s entourage. The Buddhist priest looked at the little kid and said:

Shame! A Lama Ding Dong!

I suppose it’s wicked of me to be secretly glad this sort of stuff isn’t entirely confined to the South.

A couple of tidbits from the Constitution of the State of Minnesota:

“[N]or shall…any preference be given by law to any religious establishment or mode of worship…” – from Article I, Section 16.

“No religious test…shall be required as a qualification for any office of public trust in the state.” – from Article I, Section 17.

Ya know, If being christian gives christians such peace and happiness, why is it they always seem so agitated and angry about stuff like this?

Hmmmm…

Check out this article on who might run for governor of California in the '02 elections!

I swear, what is this!? Because he has name recognition with the public, this man is suddently qualified to be governor? What’s his experience with the state budget? What’s his experience in political science? What’s his experience with enviromental concerns? Immigration? All the other things a governor needs to know. This isn’t another role for a film, Arnie, this it the real thing! We need people with experience, not actors with name recognition!

You might want to study about someone before you dismiss them Freyr. Arnie is very experienced in politics. He has been politically active for well over a decade, being a very intelligent supporter of the Republican party. I’d say that w/regards to immigration he is quite familiar, since he immigrated here long before he was a superstar celebrity. Pol Sci? He has an earned not honorary MBA from Harvard(? Am not sure it is Harvard, but I know it is a respected uni.) All in all, Arnie is a very sharp customer who calculated every step he needed to get where he is now, so I think he would make an excellent governor.
Personally I would be interested in seeing how his wifes family would behave if he did ran. :stuck_out_tongue:

Prehaps, but that’s not what’s reported on his site. There I found out about his career in bodybuilding, TV, movies and being on the President’s and Governor’s Fitness counsel, but there’s not much mention of anything else.

I’d say that w/regards to immigration he is quite familiar, since he immigrated here long before he was a superstar celebrity.

Again, prehaps, but what’s his position on illegal aliens? Their rights as workers? Providing them healthcare and other benefits? Again, his site says nothing about that, nor does it mention his experience at it other than becoming a US citizen in '83.

Nope, he graduated from U. of Wisconsin, Superior with a degree (type not mentioned). He received an honorary Humanity of Letters in the mid-90s, from his alma mater. Where’s this Harvard degree? Cite, please?

All in all, Arnie is a very sharp customer who calculated every step he needed to get where he is now, so I think he would make an excellent governor.

I’d agree, if there were evidence of it, but I see none.

Probably right. Jesus didn’t miss a chance to talk and debate religious leaders.

of course, I get this image of him wincing every time I hear of knee-jerk stupidity like this.

It’s not like we’ve never had Actors in Politics, Freyr. Some of them have actually turned out quite able to Govern (whether you argee with their policies or not is another matter). But aren’t ~90% of politicians acting? They act like they actually care…so they can get votes.

BTW, the Dems wanted Warren to run, just take your above quote and put his name in - any difference?

Regarding the OP - If I remember correctly, someone around here has a sig line that says it all - (paraphrasing)
“If only you Christians were more like your Christ…”

I’ll concede the point that politicians do act, especially infront of the camera and microphones. But when the media’s away and politicians sit down to formulate public policy, they’re not acting and that’s my objection. I want someone in there who understands economics, sociology and the other fields that go into running the government.

Let’s turn the situation around a bit, what if instead of running for governor, Arnie was applying for the position of VP of a large corporation. Would they seriously consider his resumé as it is now?

BTW, the Dems wanted Warren to run, just take your above quote and put his name in - any difference?

No difference in my mind. I want experienced, quality people in public office, not people who look good in front of a camera.

Freyr

Oh boy, if we used those standards, half of congress would not qualify, and 8 of the S.F. City Supes would be goners.

and

Yeah, and I want a mansion and a yacht. Experienced, quality people, eh? Good luck, Freyr.

I was kind of pleased when Ventura got elected, anything to shake up the establishment.

Hmmm, could have sworn reading that he had recieved an MBA from one of the big name schools.

However, that still does not invalidate my other statements. He has been active in politics for a long time, and calculated every step to get to where he is now.

And yes he would have a good chance to VP a decent sized corp. He started a mail order business before he was a name, and was part owner in two restuarants, Planet Hollywood (Which he left in 2000) and Schatzi, and he’s by all accounts managed his money well from his acting career. Better than a number of VP’s I’ve seen here in the valley.

I was disappointed that Warren Beaty didn’t run for president. After all, isn’t it time we liberals got an underqualified, incompetent ex-actor in the oval office?
