Hello good people,
I’ve bitten the bullet and changed my phone and pc’s Operating Systems to Windows 10. Wednesday the 10th.
Windows build 10130 for PC and windows 10 mobile insider preview for the mobile.
My initial impressions are good, in parts.
The PC first.
The machine is about 18 months old and is fairly quick, an i7 3770, 8GB of RAM and an SSD for the OS.
The total process took about an hour, the download was quick, on a 50 Mb connection, and I took the option of an update installation to keep my steam files etc.
My only real bugbear has been some very erratic shut down/restart times these seem to vary from seconds to tens of minutes.
The interface is quite pleasant, neither win 7,8 or 8.1. A few options are in different places, reliability history is a good example and a few shortcuts, win update, are kaput but easy to fix.
No problems with device drivers as all that worked with 8.1 seems fine with 10.
RAM use seems generally higher, running on idle at about 25%, 2GB, but nothing detrimental.
Mercifully the b##### windows tiles have been tamed and banished.
Now the phone…
Of course I realise this is pre-release software and you should treat these things with care but what the hell I’m an optimist!
Not brilliant, the phone’s a Lumia 625 so fairly low spec but it’s now acting like a tranquillised sloth. I can do what I need to do…eventually.
I read that MS are prioritising the PC build of Win 10 for the moment which is logical and I’m brave/foolish for jumping in at the deep end of the pool but even so.
So anyone else feeling brave or have questions?
Peter
