Definitely not–Sidious is not Sifo-Dyas. When the Kaminoan prime minister mentions him, Obi-Wan says, “Master Sifo-Dyas was killed nearly ten years ago.” Then, in his transmission to Yoda and Mace Windu, he again mentions Sifo-Dyas and says, “I was under the impression he was killed before that.” Obi-Wan, Yoda and Mace all appear to know who this person was, and that he has been dead for ten years. Assuming that Palpatine is Sidious, Sidious then cannot be Sifo-Dyas, or Yoda and Mace might have noticed him still alive and serving as Supreme Chancellor.
Given the rather limited job security of Sith apprentices, I suspect that Sifo-Dyas may have been another Jedi who was turned by Sidious, perhaps to replace Darth Maul. After placing the order for the clone army, he in turn was killed somehow and replaced by Dooku/Tyranus.
I thnk that Sidious COULD be Sifo-Dyas - he just had him killed, then used his name with the Kaminoans.
As to Mace Windu having the only purple lightsaber - well, according to Samuel L. Jackson, he insisted on it so his character could be spotted in the large group fight scenes.
What I want to know is, what’s with the name “Darth”? Why do so many of this universe’s bad guys have this for a first name?
Darth is a title the Siths use. Consider it an evil form of “mister”

I’ve been wondering about the “always two there are, a master and an apprentice” thing. I took it not as “there are only two Sith”, but as “Sith travel in pairs”. I mean, clearly Dooku existed at the same time as Sidious and Maul; I have a hard time believing that his conversion to the Dark Side happened only after the death of Maul. I don’t see why there couldn’t be several pairs of Sith gallavanting around.
I’m trying to conceive of a way that another theory of mine could work: that Palpatine actually is Sypho’Diaz, that the Council just created a death story to cover up his leaving the Jedi order to become a politician, and that Palpatine just adopted a different version of the name as his Sith name. Problem is, if Obi-Wan knew Sypho’Diaz, he should recognize Palpatine, unless he underwent extensive reconstructive surgery.
I think I just found how George Lucas can weasle out of this one. Remember: when one accelerates, time slows down (relativity, more or less). She’s such an intergalactic jet setter, that all the time shes spent in hyperspace has made her age less than everyone else!

He’s standing around in some of the shots with Palpatine on Coruscant, looking very hidalgo. He has a very small part, only a few lines total. Hopefully, he does more in the next film.

Yes, Darth Sideous or Darth Tyrannus impersonated Sifo-Dyas to the Kaminoans. Remember, they had no contact with the Republic. Sifo-Dyas was killed ‘over ten years ago,’ ie before Phantom Menace, whereas the Army was ordered just after Phantom Menace. Don’t try to make things more complicated than they are.

After Anikin left Tatooine, his mother was sold to the Lars. Ten years pass, and Anikin meets his step brother. But why is it that they both look the same age given that Owen Lars should be only 10 years old?
And how did Count Docuu know that Palpatine was Sith?
Dooku was a Jedi Master who was disenfranchised and put off by the enitre situation of the Galaxy at the time of Phantom Menace. After Maul was killed, Sideous needed a new apprentice, and one he didn’t really need to train, so he appealed to Dooku’s desire to “fix things,” and turned him into Darth Tyranus. At this point, Dooku resigned from the Jedi Order, retook his title as Count and began forming the Separatist Movement.

It’s because Owen is his step-brother, not half brother. Owen had a different mother who was apparently killed before Lars bought Shmi. There is no blood relation between Owen and Annakin.
Only thing that bugged me about that scene was “This is my girlfriend, Beru.” I mean, might as well have gone all out and said wife because the concept of having a girlfriend in the Star Wars galaxy kinda seems weird. I realize that they have to get together somehow, but it totally took me out of the fantasy when he said it. I just imagined him saying “Yeah, Beru and I have been goin’ out for about 3 years on-and-off. We broke up a couple of months ago when she cheated on me with some dude who was going into the flight academy. At first I was really mad, but I decided that it’s really hard to meet hot chicks out here, what with the moisture farming and all…”
Owen was Cleigg’s son from his first marriage, before the Lars family moved to Tatooine.
I was under the impression (for no particular reason except economy of characters) That Count Dracula, er, Doofus, er, Dooku was actually Cypher Diaz, who faked his own death about the time he placed the order for the clone army.
I’m guessing all this was done as part of his leaving the Jedi/joining the Sith, and all part of Darth Sidious/Senator Palpatine’s manipulation.
Jedi and Sith make their own lightsabers, so there’s no reason they couldn’t be any color at all. Dooku’s has an unusual curved hilt, Darth Maul’s was double-bladed, and if you look closely at any two “regular” lightsabers they will be slightly different.
I don’t think Cypher Diaz was anyone special. Hell, we don’t even know the names of everyone on the Jedi Council. Sidious probably just used his name because it was convienent. Dooku clearly isn’t Diaz because various Jedi know them as two distinct people.
