Attention MADs: Who's interested in a trip to Winterthur?

Always wanted to go, but haven’t, Winterthur is on my “must visit” list. 20 people are needed for the reduced group rate. Their site is here. Thinking a Saturday in mid May, before it gets hot. Who is in?

Wow - I never heard of the place, but it sounds like a lovely place to visit. Unfortunately, all of my Saturdays are taken thru May 21.

I’ve been, and it’s cool. Pencil me in – so far I don’t have anything in particular in May.

Pencil me in too. I have a friend in town in the way early part of May, but other than that I’m good to go.

Shall we say the 28th, or would you like a breather week FCM?

Please, you don’t have to plan around my life. But, the 28th is Memorial Day weekend - I shy away from making any plans for holiday weekends. It’s less stressful to stay home and chill.

We could do it first weekend in June – the weather should still be well this side of beastly then.

What kind of date are you and MsRobyn looking at for GettysDope, dances?

What’s the group rate?

Forgot about Memorial Day :smack: so June 4th works for me. GettysDope II is something MsRobyn and I discussed a few weeks ago but didn’t set in stone, expecting to do within another week or so. Foo.

The group rate is $17 per person based on a 20 person group, to answer your query Ginger. I’m planning on calling them this week to nail down details and afford better specifics. Their website offers many options but doesn’t answer my (and likely your) questions. Stay tuned.

I’m interested, June is much more do-able than May, and June 4 in particular looks good right now.

Just to hop in here one last time - the first 2 weekends in June are not doable for me now. My daughter is coming to visit and we have both weekends pretty well filled with family-related activities. So like I said, don’t plan around me. I venture to guess that from here till fall, my weekends are all going to be spoken for, what with the current committments as well as the looming sailing season. I will now slip out of this thread quietly. Pretend I was never here…

I think we were outside your two-hour limit, anyway, so sniff – blow us off, fine, whatever.

People seem to like the 4th, though – how’s that work for the rest of y’all?

4th is sweet by me. Spoke to a nice helpful lady there this afternoon. If we can get together a group of 20, we save $3 each over the regular admission price of $20 per person. She suggested the Elegant Entertaining tour for first timers (are you still interested, twickster as you’ve likely done that one? That tour includes some gallery exhibits and also the garden/grounds. They ask that I call with final count and time desired 1 week to 10 days in advance. Methinks we should secure a time now and firm up the number of participants when we draw close. I count 9 so far if the Ginger/Weirddave family and both RTFirefly folks are in.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions, irrational tangents?

Sounds like a lovely outing.

June works better for us, because Aaron and I will be in Texas in May.

Robin

I’ve only been once, and that was probably ten years ago, so whatever tour you want to pick is fine.

I may or may not be bringing a civilian or two – let me forward the info to a couple of people.

Kewl. I’ve also extended the invite to a non-doper. Should we let outsiders into our exclusive group? You know-dilution of the gene pool and such.

I regularly bring my friend M. to Doper Dinners – he enjoys meeting groups of smart people, and if he doesn’t laugh uproariously at the mention of 1920s death rays … well, I don’t either, come to think of it. I figure if you can say with a straight face “nah, you’ll like these folks” – go ahead and bring whoever.

I haven’t heard back from M. yet – but the lovely and talented InDisGuize (who’s more a lurker than a poster) will be joining us.

As MAD events go, this is practically in my back yard. Count me in!

What time should I request of the nice Winterthur lady? Quasi-noonish for those of us who have an hour+ drive? Doperdinner afterwards at some decent spot?
