Attitudes and treatment we can do without

Felice, you are a suspicious, mean-spirited, petty person.

I like that.

By the way, what is “American Rivers”? Is it that clothing store in the mall?

American River College, Sacramento

Felice, FYI Substitute staff arent listed as they are on call, and also arent known till up to 3 weeks into each semester.

But hey, you know everything, my bad.

Most schools don’t list their adjuncts in the catalog. They change every semester anyway. One local college lists me as an adjunct on their web site (I guess my credentials look impressive, but I havn’t taught there in 5 years! ) but doesn’t list their current adjuncts. Basically, this proves nothing.

If you have no life at all, you could telepone the department and ask… Of course you don’t really know our friend’s name is Mikey.

What makes you think any this is any of your damn business anyway?

Sorry to distract from picking on Mikey, but what the hell is a “BS in History” and an “AA in philosophy”? I’m not familiar with the degrees attached to those designations.

Never attribute to an -ism anything more easily explained by common, human stupidity.

<font face=“comic sans MS” size=5>Mikey: you are a liar & a fool to boot! History degrees are LIBERAL ARTS degrees! There is NO SUCH THING as a "Bachleor of Science (B.S.) " degree is history. You have annointed yourself with a degree you haven’t earned–a felony, in some states. Also, why not a PhD, as long as you’re lying about it? Not only do you lie, but you’re penny-anty about it, you chickenshit!</font>

“Show me a sane man, and I will cure him for you.”----Jung

B.S. must be for Bull Shit. You forgot to mention your MBA in Oceanography.

Not to mention that the self-proclaimed prof misspelled ‘separate’ more than once. What a feeb.

as a self-empowered professor of bs, I must protest your wanton denigration of my colleague, mikeylikesit (or whatever) really i think he snot the dude who secreted agent stuff at us but i could be rrong he is prolly jus another well meaning doer of stuff contrib…g to owr diversity

That’s hard to do if it’s not your regular style of discourse.

Mikey, I’m sorry if we’re not giving you the benefit of the doubt, but maybe we should. Let’s ignore that you
(1) have a similar writing style as Former Agent, The Finder, MadeMann et al. including gratuitous use of acronym lol, painting the SDMB posters with the “you guys are in here when the action’s outside” brush

(1a) have a similar style of listing credential, employment history, ect.

(2) have similar email accounts starting with the letter M at hotmail.com

(3) have a similar listed geographic area (Sacramento, Ca)

(4) sign many of your posts in the same way: Mike

Let’s write that all off as a coincidence. No really, no sarcasm. I’m canadian and haven’t the knack. It’s coincidence, I fiat that for the rest of this post. If everything MikeylikesIT says is true there is certainly basis for more meaningful discussions than “SDMB is mean”. Philosophy, history and energy conservation engineering are a unique combination of studies. Is there a common thread? Do you get a perspective of conservation from your historical background?
My God, man, you must have a wealth of knowledge. If you want respect here, share it!

Nekosoft

Hell, even if you are Former Agent, you’re clever enough to attract the attention of everyone reading this. In the words of David B: cool it and we can all have some fun times, all singing and holding hands. (well, not in the Guy Stuff thread, of course)
If you’re Phaedrus GET A JOB.

So Al Gore discovered the internet when he was just a freshman in college?

Dr F:

Thanks, doc. Ah duz mah best.
American Rivers is a college outside of Sacremento. They have a website which I found by doing a google search on ‘American Rivers College’. Now you know as much as I do. I am told that it’s a pretty poor school, one step above a mail-order diploma mill, but I don’t know that for sure.

dlv and MikeylikesIT:
Yes, I realize that not all colleges always list their adjunct faculty (that’s the usual collegiate term for substitute teacher, btw)on their rosters. That is why I said:

(Geez, I’m quoting myself. Sorry, all.)

Didn’t say he didn’t work there, just said there was no one listed by that name. If you’re going to give me flack, at least don’t try to do so by restating what I’ve already said.

And I said earlier that his name may not really be Mike, and that for purposes of this forum that doesn’t matter. Oh, sorry, I was talking to Mike aka Formeragent. Surely a different individual entirely. Right?

Oh and Bosda, actually, there are institutions which offer Bachelor’s of Science in liberal arts. I’m not saying MikeylikesIT has one, mind- and I’m not saying he hasn’t. Just saying that he could.

Mikey, Im presenting you with a one time offer of valium. Im a very nice person, but you started this thread in the pit m’dear, so expect to be flamed. Move on over to the mundane and you will see just how much fun the majority of the people here can be. Doing that holding hand welcome routine thingy…with just a hint of sarcasm, but happy happy sarcasm

Does the very notion that this ‘Mikey’ person might be involved in any capacity in the field of education disturb anyone besides me?

If this is the quality of the EDUCATORS, what in the hell can you expect from the students? If I paid money for a course and had this bozo as a teacher, I’d walk out and demand my money back.

Scary.

Nah, I’m not worried, coosa. Hell, my dog could cut it as a substitute lib ed professor. . .

Jodih–

Pardon me? I think the brush with which you painted that particular stroke may be a bit too wide for the job at hand.

Easy one-step assembly instructions.
Pour Beer A in Uncle B.

I think this is the kind of thread that proves just how much fun the SDMB can be. Here are a lot of regulars (and some impressive newbies) joinging together to sling a few stones at a poster with too much time and too many email accounts.

Good job everyone, because this thread (and the related threads in BBQ and Great Debates) are certainly making me laugh and are also giving me a chance to try my hand at some choice one-liners.

Without posters like good old Mikey, we might just get a little rusty in our tried and true chopping down of trolls.

Well, shut my mouth. It’s also illegal to put squirrels down your pants for the purposes of gambling.

that’s hilarious! lollollol

The purpose of life is to matter, to count, to have it make a difference you lived at all.

An adjunct is a contractor (re-)hired every semester to teach courses. Often, they’re graduate students teaching “boring” undergraduate courses that full-time faculty doesn’t want to teach, like remedial math and english. In addition to lecturing, the instructor has to grade exams and homework, meet with students for office hours, etc, so adjuncts are paid for the course/semester. Unlike f/t faculty, adjuncts usually don’t participate in committes, don’t develop new curriculum, etc.

A substitute (just like in a secondary school) is someone who takes over the regular instructor’s class day-by-day because the usual instructor is unavailable (e.g., sick) and the school doesn’t want to cancel the class (if a course doesn’t have enough class hours because of cancellations, the school may not be able to give students credit for the course - I’ve heard of this happening). The subs are paid for the hours they work, not by semester. They don’t have to grade papers, have office hourse, etc.

Often if an adjunct cancels a class, their pay is docked (even if they’re out sick). Full-time faculty is entitled to some sick days. This really varies by college.

I hope this helps.
