Yeah, too bad about that, David. Although jumping in the thread just to take a shot at me might have seemed a little trollish, so maybe it’s just as well.

GO TARHEELS!!
Uh… Myndephuquer,
What’s your point?
And to be fair to Mikey, my source for the derogatory comments on American Rivers College corrected himself. He was thinking of another institution. I have no reason to think ARC is any better or worse than any other college.
I must say that that UCD offers a B.S. in various musical fields which is extremely uncommon since most music programs grant either a BM (Music) or BFA (Fine Arts). There web page http://www.cudenver.edu/public/admin/degrees.html does not say what degree is granted for History I would assume it would be a BA as our new friend corrected himself to be; however, with their current classification of music, who knows.
Welcome aboard Mikey, what time period did you specialize in? I have some background in history, albeit music history. It actually encompasses a rather large time frame.
To continue, http://www.arc.losrios.cc.ca.us/areas/areas.html which is the home page for American River College does not grant an Associates in Philosophy. Where I currently work I can look up pretty much any information on any degree granting institution, any relevant contact people within the school (including most professors, adjunct being excluded), their accreditation, their loan default rates, etc. Anyway, I did not do enough research to see if they granted that degree at one time, it is possible. What type of philosophy did you study? Granted an associates pretty much limits the scope greatly, there is still something there. I was not aware of any institutions that offered an associates in philosophy just as there are not many (if any) institutions that will grant an associates in music. The reason is the institution will lose some of its federal funding if its students do not go into the field that they were trained for within that given institution and in both philosophy and music one can not get a decent job in their respective fields without having at least a bachelors degree (in Philosophy preferrably a Master’s). I could quote the regulations that state this, but I am lazy. Back onto the topic of your Philosophy degree, who are your favorite philosophers, and why? What are your reactions towards Schoeppenhaur’s (sorry, I never spell his name right)ideals of beauty. How do you think that their respective ideologies relate and differ? Kant’s idea of the sublime is pretty interesting. It was an eye-opening thought that destructive forces could have their own sense of beauty. How about, who do you think influenced their respective works in dealing with beauty. Do you think it (the influence) goes as far back as Plato? If so, why and how? I find it pretty interesting. One final thing, who do you think has the most interesting philosophy of music? I don’t really know who it would be. I find that some music therapists have a basic understanding; however, they don’t tend to go far enough. One music therapist (unfortunately, I forgot her name) says, “Music sounds the way emotions feel.” Unfortunately she does not go into that thought anymore. Would you care to add onto that?
I am not saying you are not who you claim to be. I think that there is some information that appears to contradict yourself. I would just like a differing perspective on the above stated information. I am also a little concerned that you are a professor at the university level without having obtained a Master’s degree. The instances of a person doing that are extremely rare and even then the individual must have an extremely prolific, accurate, and/or new perspective on the subject that s/he may be teaching. Also, they will typically have to be highly respected in their given field in order to teach at a college level without actually having completed the requisite college courses (i.e. a post-baccalaureate degree in the appropriate field).
Thank you and HUGS!

Hey Jodi,
To paraphrase one of your compatriots from a few years ago: “What am I, a frickin’ potted plant?”
I, too, winced under the sting of your careless lash. I felt Unc’s pain and sent him a comradely kudo. You, however, saw fit to direct your contrition solely to him, leaving the unwashed masses of unintelligible ingahneers twisting in the wind.
Now, DavidB wants in on the melee. From what I’ve been able to see, he’s not a good one to have pissed off at you.
So, howboutit? You gonna apologize to the rest of us en masse or do the SDMB engineers have to rise up and start some shit with the attorneys?
So eager to disprove, an american fixture. Anyways yes, Philosophy was an AA earnable topic, and in fact is today as offered by Gottlieb Baer, in Davies Hall on the second floor in I believe room 208, as is his other topic of teaching, world history 4 and 5, history of Europe and the East.
I taught as a student teacher under Wrightson, who also teaches history 4 and 5, as I do now. Prehistory up to the 1900’s of Europe.
Furthermore the name as exactly shown on the transcript is “Philosophy: Logic 1- Logic 6”
So, um is this defense enough yet, or do I have to walk down the hall and ask when his class times are?
Note: that was sarcasm so dont even ask damnit.

I think she oughtta offer individual apologies. We all know that attorneys bill at about 3 times the rate of engineers, so we should get 3 times the apologies.

I hope I never become one.

But if all our engineers are waiting around for apologies from lawyers, WHO’S GONNA DRIVE THE DAMN TRAIN?
Sorry to get testy, but I have tickets for the Big Apple Circus tomorrow and I really don’t feel like driving into the City.
I abjectly and lavishly apologize to you as well, RenMan, and to every (any and all) engineers who might have taken offense at my uncalled for comment. I am not worthy to buff your shoes with my hair. I should suffer untold engineering-related tragedies thoughout the rest of my miserable existence. I should be forced to read technical papers and schematics in all of what passes for my free time.
Consider this apology to have been offered in triplicate.

I hope you know were just kiddin’ ya, Jodih. I also sincerely hope there are no patent attorneys out here. The two I’m acquainted with have engineering degrees in addition to their law degrees.
So, how do you think we should handle that little can o’ worms?
** Felice ** – I was just showing my appreciation for the link to my alma mater.
(I did screw up the code a bit. 'sorry 'bout the annoying post. lessons learned: watch those spaces and pay attention to what your .gif files are)
That is probably the ONLY time I’ll ever see a reference to NCSU on this board (unless I make it).
WOLFPACK!!
UNK – Well, I HOPED there was some joshing involved. My apology was and is sincere, but your basic, unadorned, standard-issue sorry isn’t quite so tongue-in-cheek as the one above.
My take on patent attorneys is that they can make truckloads of money, but their area of practice is a little dry and, well, boring.
So now let’s hear from all the patent attorneys I’ve offended.

Jodi,
Your heartfelt and sincere apology is warmly accepted. The rankled engineers are now soothed and have gone back to running this highly technological society of ours. I’m gonna curl up and read a riveting EEOC legal brief for entertainment.
Myndephuquer,
Ah, I see. Well, glad you liked. I think I picked NCSU because the sportscaster on the tv was talking about them and www.ncsu.edu was an easy URL to guess. I was just picking an institution at random, to prove a (pretty irrelevant) point.

Sure, I’m a little late to join this thread. But what the hell. This one is just too pretty to let go.

I do know some engineers who have poor writing skills, just as I’m sure you know some lawyers with poor ethics.

Hey, fellow Packer! Go STATE!
Well, since the OP has fallen pretty much by the wayside . . .
Go Wolfpack??? Are you fucking kidding me? Why in the hell would anyone cheer for (or even admit to being an alumnus of) that two-bit, Valvano-worshipping, no-student-graduating, cow college?
Christ, I’d even cheer for UNC before State.
