I just got that one too! I was pleased! It’s really crummy-looking, but it’s the thought that counts.
I had one very unfortunate computer hangup a while back that made one data unit get sent in after 180 hours. My average is closer to 6 hours, and that really screwed it up. I’m glad to see that my listed time is dropping; it’s now below 10 hours. The only thing to do is just keep processing those units!
I think I’ll be overtaken by mishaa pretty soon, though.
I just joined. I had 36 units complete, but it was with an e-mail address that no longer exists. So I join with a grand total of 0. Go me!
Excellent. Soon, the Universe will be mine–ah–ours!
So, I take it “not” will not be joining the Cause, huh? Oh, well–bummer.
Wow, Kwyjibo - if I ever make it to 2500 I’ll probably have the certificate laminated and hang it around my neck! Seriously, though, they are a nice thought, and I’m looking forward to earning a few more.
brachyrhynchos, what I received was a congratulatory e-mail and instructions to download my certificate from the SETI website. Maybe there’s a glitch there somewhere on your end? [sub] Or maybe the SETI bosses just like us better <snicker>[/sub] If you’re really, really nice I’ll let you touch mine someday - maybe.
Achernar, yeah, it’s a pretty crummy looking certificate, but, as you say, it’s the thought that counts. I had a similar time-glitch when my old computer died - take a look at my speed right above you! My average was over 200 hours, I think. It’s come down to 49+ hours since I got the new/better computer. (Compaq Presario) Thanks for the boost, though - I’m #35 now instead of #39!
Welcome, white-tigeress, mishaa, and NoNameForMoi! I guess y’all bumped me a little too, although I’m sure I’ll soon be waving at mishaa sailing right past me. It takes my computer about 10 hours to process a WU, and that’s with SETI running in the background all of the time. I ran it as a screensaver on my old computer and it took about a week to process one complete unit! At least I no longer have the slowest computer in the group.
And I think I’ll go ahead and embarrass myself by mentioning how excited I was when I saw that I had an e-mail from SETI - I thought they might have found an anomaly on one of my work units!
Go to the SETI home page and click on “Individual User Statistics”. On the next screen, enter the e-mail address you use for SETI. This brings up your individual statistics. At the bottom of that page there should be hyperlinks to download your 100, 250, 500… etc. certificates.
Death to the heritics!
Yay! I recently got a new computer and started running SETI@Home again; my old computer had gotten very slow and had problems connecting, and so I had stopped running it. Now I’ve re-downloaded the command-line client and SETI Spy, joined the team, and I’m rockin’!
Welcome Geobabe!
I wish you could change email addresses without losing your units.
Wherever Geobabe goes, there go I. Can’t trust those E.T.'s around my wife. Besides, I’ve seen Star Trek. I know those alien wimmins are hot!
You can. As long as you have the old email address and password, you can sign in and change the address here. If you don’t know your password and the old address is invalid, then you’re screwed.
thanks a ton, Geobabe! I don’t know why I had trouble finding it…
Crap. I don’t know the password. Did they automatically generate one for you, or do you pick it? Because if I picked it then I should know it
They generate it… sorry.
Well… I’m afraid that I’m going to drop a bit.
I’m shipping all my stuff out in a couple of hours. Computer included! It’ll be about a month before I’m back online again and able to process units.
Well, it’s been a busy month since the holidays, but this thread coming up reminded me to post the current standings.
Our current total as of about 4:00 PM Mountain Standard time (GMT –7) is 29409 units, with 5,103 units being processed in the (just over a) month since the last posting.
There has been some jockeying for position, and some new members, so people have moved up or down a little. For instance, Beelzebubba, with his amazing magic processor, has jumped up 5 places since last month by cranking out an amazing 588 units. I’m back up to 18th (just thought I’d casually throw that in), just above Triskadecamus and our newest member Geobabe.
These are the standings as of 4:00 pm MST, shown in order of total units:

And these are the standings shown in order or units processed during the week. Some of us who are newer and don’t have a huge number of total units show a bit higher on this list because we are cranking out more units per day.

Totals 29409 24306 5103 33173
Based on my figures, we should be at about 33173 units by month end. And if this holds up, we should catch up to the evil deviationists over at AFCA by about mid-year.
So keep it up everyone, and welcome all new folks!
Ugly
We’ve now topped 30,000 units.
Zeta Reticuli, here we come!
Sigh. What to do. My 1,900+ units put me at #8 in the heretical a.f.c-a group (where I have been for years). They would put me at #3 in the SDMB group, but I don’t think work units go with you when you switch groups.
OTOH, all work units in both groups are work units for Cecil, which is the important point, right?
Actually, I think your total does go with you when you switch, but since the site is down right now, I can’t check for sure. I used to belong to the old Straight Dopers team, but when I switched, my total was credited to the new team.
