To celebrate the coming Simpsons movie, our local Fox Station, Fox 8 has been polling it’s veiwers for the last little while to find the 8 favourite ever Simpsons episodes.
If mods think there’s no need for spoliers, feel free to remove.
Not that my vote would have made any difference, but I would have included #5 on my list and #2 is a classic - but my list would have been:
You Only move twice
The one where Homer weighs 300lds and goes on disability
Bart the Daredevil
The TWisted world of Marge Simpson
Mr Burns Casino
Depp Space Homer
Frank “Grimey” Grimes
Whacking Day
So, do the people of Australia shock and horrify the erudite Dope with their choices or does the collective wisdom nod it’s head and purr sagely in appreciation?
You can actually see all the episodes in the spoiler box anyway, as they are blue.
I’m surprised that Weekend at Burnsie’s rated as number one. I don’t remember it being all that memorable. And no mention of Bart vs. Australia, I see. (Though I don’t mind–I wasn’t a huge fan.) I also didn’t think much of the first one–Simpsons Roasting Over an Open Fire. But it was Santa’s Little Helper’s debut.
If we’re all allowed to post our own top eight, I’m going for it.
When you Dish Upon a Star
You Only Move Twice
The Springfield Files
Bart the Murderer
Bart Gets an Elephant
The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons
Homer’s Barbershop Quartet
Cape Fear
That was gut wrenching, and I’m still not totally happy about it.
All fine episodes, but the top 8 of all time? No way. from the Australian list I’d say “Homer v The 18th Amendment” is a possibility and “Lemon of Troy” would be closer with only “You Only Move Twice” as something I would pick for top 8.
I think my list would look like:
Stonecutters
Bart After Dark
You Only Move Twice
Cape Feare
Brother From Another Series
Bart the Daredevil
Bart the Murderer
Simpsons Bible Stories
Just missed the cut… “Treehouse of Horror IV” (Devil and Homer Simpson, Terror at 5 1/2 Feet, Dracula) and “Lemon of Troy.”
But I’m still not sure that list wouldn’t change tomorrow.
Homer becomes a lackey for Alec Baldwin, Kim Basinger and Ron Howard. It’s a season ten episode. It’s not exactly considered a classic, but I’ve always really enjoyed it.
When it was first screened, there was a bit of a backlash. Australia didn’t like the way they were portrayed. After a short while I think they realised it was no less offensive than any other episode, and that the Simpsons make fun of America in a more relentless way than they do other nations, so it gained some more respect. But you can’t completely forget, I guess.
No “Lisa the Vegetarian”? Outside of the “Treehouse of Horror” episides, it’s one of the most surreal and laugh out loud of all of them. “Remember, Jimmy, if a cow got the chance, he’d eat you and everyone you care about!”
Most Australians I’ve mentioned the episode to dislike it less because its offensive, and more because they just think it does a really poor job. Bad accents, etc.
Bart Sells His Soul
I Love Lisa
Marge vs. the Monorail
You Only Move Twice
Homer’s Enemy
Bart’s Friend Falls in Love
