Australia decides.... the 8 greatest Simpsons Episodes Ever

To celebrate the coming Simpsons movie, our local Fox Station, Fox 8 has been polling it’s veiwers for the last little while to find the 8 favourite ever Simpsons episodes.

So, here’s the list:
#8 Homer v The 18th Amendment

#7 Lemon of Troy

#6 You Only Move Twice

#5 Simpsons Roasting on an open fire

#4 Million Dollar Abie

#3 D’ohin In The Wind

#2 Homer the Heretic

and #1

Weekend at Burnsie’s
If mods think there’s no need for spoliers, feel free to remove.

Not that my vote would have made any difference, but I would have included #5 on my list and #2 is a classic - but my list would have been:

 1. You Only move twice
 2. The one where Homer weighs 300lds and goes on disability
 3. Bart the Daredevil
 4. The TWisted world of Marge Simpson
 5. Mr Burns Casino
 6. Depp Space Homer
 7. Frank “Grimey” Grimes
 8. Whacking Day

So, do the people of Australia shock and horrify the erudite Dope with their choices or does the collective wisdom nod it’s head and purr sagely in appreciation?

mm

You can actually see all the episodes in the spoiler box anyway, as they are blue.

I’m surprised that Weekend at Burnsie’s rated as number one. I don’t remember it being all that memorable. And no mention of Bart vs. Australia, I see. (Though I don’t mind–I wasn’t a huge fan.) I also didn’t think much of the first one–Simpsons Roasting Over an Open Fire. But it was Santa’s Little Helper’s debut.

If we’re all allowed to post our own top eight, I’m going for it.

 1. When you Dish Upon a Star

 2. You Only Move Twice

 3. The Springfield Files

 4. Bart the Murderer

 5. Bart Gets an Elephant

 6. The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons

 7. Homer’s Barbershop Quartet

 8. Cape Fear

That was gut wrenching, and I’m still not totally happy about it.

All fine episodes, but the top 8 of all time? No way. from the Australian list I’d say “Homer v The 18th Amendment” is a possibility and “Lemon of Troy” would be closer with only “You Only Move Twice” as something I would pick for top 8.

I think my list would look like:

 1. Stonecutters
 2. Bart After Dark
 3. You Only Move Twice
 4. Cape Feare
 5. Brother From Another Series
 6. Bart the Daredevil
 7. Bart the Murderer
 8. Simpsons Bible Stories

Just missed the cut… “Treehouse of Horror IV” (Devil and Homer Simpson, Terror at 5 1/2 Feet, Dracula) and “Lemon of Troy.”

But I’m still not sure that list wouldn’t change tomorrow.

I have never seen there number 1 choice of Australia, also the titles of the episodes aren’t much good with me, I only remember the plot.

Whats this episode about?

My top eight would be, the one where Bart gets a fake ID

Krusty Gets Kancelled

Cape Feare

Homer The Heretic

Lisa becomes a babysitter…that or Homer’s Phobia

Whacking Day

$pringfield

Deep Space Homer

And absolutely none are in order. And will most likely change.

Homer becomes a lackey for Alec Baldwin, Kim Basinger and Ron Howard. It’s a season ten episode. It’s not exactly considered a classic, but I’ve always really enjoyed it.

Twenty Two Short Films about Springfield
King Size Homer

It should have at least recieved honorable mention.

Australia got the Simpsons in 1996, would be the only logical conclusion.

The fact that you can see the episodes in the spoiler box makes me wonder if Homer himself didn’t start this thread.

When it was first screened, there was a bit of a backlash. Australia didn’t like the way they were portrayed. After a short while I think they realised it was no less offensive than any other episode, and that the Simpsons make fun of America in a more relentless way than they do other nations, so it gained some more respect. But you can’t completely forget, I guess.

No “Lisa the Vegetarian”? Outside of the “Treehouse of Horror” episides, it’s one of the most surreal and laugh out loud of all of them. “Remember, Jimmy, if a cow got the chance, he’d eat you and everyone you care about!”

Stranger

Most Australians I’ve mentioned the episode to dislike it less because its offensive, and more because they just think it does a really poor job. Bad accents, etc.

Any list that does not include **Behind the Laughter ** or **Last Exit to Springfield ** is irrelevant.

Yeah. “Misrepresented” is probably the word I should’ve used.

Here are my choices, in no particular order:

Bart Sells His Soul
I Love Lisa
Marge vs. the Monorail
You Only Move Twice
Homer’s Enemy
Bart’s Friend Falls in Love
Kamp Krusty
And Maggie Makes Three

Didn’t Brazil react the same way after “The Simpsons Are Going to Brazil”…I mean, “Blame it on Lisa”?

Indeed- so much so that the writers kept putting jokes about Brazil being infested with monkeys in following episodes.

I’m glad somebody mentioned Last Exit to Springfield. That and Rosebud have to be at the top.

We’re used to appalling attempts at Australian accents. It just plain wasn’t funny.

Ugh. The Jump the Shark moment. It was the first really fall flat, unfunny epsiode. There was nothing clever and plenty stupid in it.
