I like to roast it on the shuck on the grill. When I am lazy, or it is raining, a shuck, clean it, and wrap it with plastic wrap and butter and nuke it.
Good morning, people! I think Tango knows he’s going to the vet today for his second round of shots because he slept in and wasn’t a terror at 4am. Going to be a busy day, so teaching from home is better option. Vet visit, then the notary will be bringing by all the paperwork to sign for my refi(it’s actually happening!) then fire pit and beers with some teaching buddies. Bloody cold outside at night, but nobody wants to have people in their houses just yet. So we shiver and drink and try to not set fire to the lawn. Not like it’s any warmer inside, since the heater guy won’t be here until tomorrow.
Stay warm and dry, y’all.
It’s much cleaner if you shuck it after nuking it. Eliminates the hassle with the tassel.
Yeah, I’m not too thrilled about going to plague-land. Especially Marion County, which is mostly full of old people - you know - the prime candidates for getting this disease…
Between now and next week, I need to smoke one turkey, rotiss another, carve, package, and freeze both (some to take, some to stay), make some pizza dough to take, bake some cookies to take, and figure our what else to take. I have ribs and pulled poke in the freezer that will go with us. Not sure what else.
Guess we’ll find out how comfy the caddy is for a road trip. I should probably drive it before them, if only to get my seat position set. It’s got memory for 2 seat/steering wheel/mirror settings - fancy, huh? Looks like we’ll leave next Firday, then come back home before Sunday after Thanksgiving. Trying hard not to dread this. At least the election is over, so we won’t hear all that crap on Fox.
On the plus side, Roxy is down for her nap, so it’s quiet for a while.
Same birthday as my mom, but probably a different year. It seems my grandparents really enjoyed Valentine’s Day, as her both of her brothers were born in November.
Haven’t figured out what to get her for her birthday. She and my dad are only eating outside at restaurants, or getting takeaway, and November’s getting chilly for that.
Might get her another orchid to kill. She loves them, but doesn’t have the magic touch.
Saw the sun today - first time since Monday. When the fog rolls in, it likes to stay awhile. Fortunately it should be sunny all weekend.
Stay safe!
Methinks it’s not your keyboard that is possessed. Does your laptop have a touchpad? Simply brushing your wrists occasionally over the touchpad can send the cursor on a goose chase.
Touchpads are hypersensitive to static electricity. When we’re in SCal and the Santa Ana winds blow, the cursor behaves like it is hopped up on crystal meth.
I got my fill with the cursor dance, and equipped my laptop with a cordless trackball. I then disabled the touchscreen and sanity prevailed!

Today’s excitement is going to the phone store with my possessed phone. It was either that or a priest, and I’m afraid my phone would go all Exorcist, and I don’t like pea soup. Phone does weird stuff like telling me it’s out of juice when it isn’t, switching on Mute when I’m on bluetooth and nowhere near the phone, and random warning messages. If I don’t report back here, I got sucked through a vortex of some kind.
FCM, dang, that’s a lot of pre-trip prep. Everyone should get a DIL like you! I bet that Caddy will make the road trip a breeze.
MetalMouse, I hope the shoulder gets over its cranky mood.
wordy, glad wordymom is doing better. Stir crazy is the best kind of crazy, even if it’s not the most fun.
flytrap, cookie’s right (of course). Once you shuck it after nuking, you’ll never go back to the old way.
I’ll make hamburgers for supper - not sure what sides. But first, a quick run to Food Lion. We’re almost out of bread.
oh no all you’ll hear is how the Dems voted the dead … and magical appearing ballots and the like …
My afternoon is sitting on hold because swiss colony didn’t get the usual payment on the 3rd even though my bank says they did,
Another walk in the fall weather before the storm hits tonight. It’s very calming. Changed the furnace filter, and put the electric blanket on the RV battery for any future sub-freezing events.
This was the neighbor’s day to bring dinner over. Salmon patties, rice, and diced tomatoes. She’s not very adventurous in her cooking, and uses almost no spices. That surprises me, as she’s Nicaraguan. But perhaps she’s cooking for her husband’s palette. I made a batch of Chex mix this morning; the traditional recipe is too bland for me, so I jazz it up with some hot sauce and some smoked paprika. I also use Bugles instead of Corn Chex.
I sometimes have to look askance at the Ms for some of her utterings. She’s my forever love, who I didn’t meet until I’d already been married for 21 years, but sometimes. . . well, she has this thing with numbers and such. Today she walked into the room and announced that “. . .tomorrow is Friday the 13th!” And looked at me with wide eyes. I said “And. . .?” She arched her brows and said “Friday the 13th in November!” I shrugged and asked why that was a problem, and she tells me that November is always a bad month, which was news to me. I’m afraid that I actually said “You need to seek help.” She’s turned down phone numbers in the past because they didn’t add up properly, and I’ve just ignored these sorts of things as being quirky, but now I think she may be fucking serious, which gives me pause.
I’m hoping I can make it home before the heavy stuff hits. According to the Future radar, the leading edge of the rain should hit home about the time I leave the orifice for my two-plus hour commute.
Burgers were good. Bread has been procured. Banana bread has been added to the list of things I’m going to take to FL.
I’m about to assume the chillage position.
Howdy Y’all! Been an uneventful day here at da cave. However, somebody developed a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for fried chikin, so we went to the hog trough Golden Corral at two p.m. for the geezer special. Thus we shall sup bbq tomorrow evenin’.
flytrap I do own corn on the cob holders. Corn on the cob trays are not a requirement in the south. However, not havin’ a deviled aig tray (a fancy one) is cause to get your heart blessed.
Nellie hope all went well at the phone sto’. I shall have to give in and get a new phone soonish, but I do not want to do so. I hate buyin’ new contraptions!
It did…I think. He did a bunch of stuff, muttered an incantation or two, and said while he couldn’t explain the weird stuff, the phone should work better now “for an older phone.” Apparently 3 years is old now. There’s a geezer section for them at daycares. You can get tiny canes for them to brandish at lawn trespassers. OK, I made that up, but you get the idea. He didn’t pressure me to buy a new phone, which is good.
I was going to walk to another store from there, but it started raining, and I had no umbrella. Don’t scoff at me, fellow Northwesterners: That “umbrellas are for wimps and tourists” stuff only works if you don’t have to walk everywhere. Oh, and the NWS says it’s partly cloudy right now. sticks head out window Nope.
flyboy, you really do have a long-ass drive. Hope the weather holds.
Good luck to you. You’re going to get it worse than we are, I think.
Evening all. Did a couple of loads of laundry this afternoon and watched some Ah Shit (my name for golf) from Georgia this afternoon. Talked to brother last night and will be heading up there the Wednesday before T-giving.
Cheeseburgers were for lunch and a Big Bowl O’Sallit is on the menu for later this evening. I’m down to the last 3 Kit-Kat bars in the house, saving those for tomorrow.
flyboy, be safe driving. And if your wife doesn’t want to go to the Steak House, I’ll join you (looked up the menu on google).
nellie, I still don’t own a mobile phone, I’m slowly getting acquainted with the 21st century. Hope it works OK now that the exorcism is complete.
talky, glad Mom-unit is doing better.
OK, need to get back to readin’ and internettin’. All y’all take care.
nellie, Nelson got skritches from his honorary AuntNellie. We’re still working on his indoor voice. He’s getting more consistent about not barking indoors, so we’re doing something right.
Glad your mom is healing well wordy
metal mouse, even my 83 year old dad is ahead of you on the cell phone issue. He’s now being brought into the 21rst century via wifi for the house (to operate his new Roku, primarily). I’m considering taking a tablet up to him the next time I go. I think he will enjoy one and they’re pretty user friendly.
Irked, came home, walked the dog and fixed brinner (aigs, bacon, oatmeal and a sliced tomato).
Since I ordered groceries online for a couple of weeks when I was sick and have been irking full days on Fridays, I’ve been staying in town to grocery shop. That means that my last two purchases of bacon weren’t the good stuff that I get at Sprout’s Market or the butcher shop in the 'Boro. Hint: the house label stuff that Kroger calls thick cut really isn’t. And Hormel maple flavored bacon sucks. I can’t wait to finish this package off and get butcher shop thick cut again.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I awoke to no cell service, no internet and no TV. I know the bill was paid and I still needed to muster my ppl. Heard the employees outside. Ran out in my robe and asked to borrow a phone. Turns out a garbage truck hit a utility pole at mile marker 89 disrupting all service, all carriers all the way to MM 0 in KW. Phone came back around noon. Took a little longer for internet and last was TV. One does not realize how dependent one is on these things until they are not working. The radio said 911 would still work but only from a landline. I don’t have a landline nor know anyone around that does.
So my plan for today was nixed due to this interruption in services. Another wasted day. Tomorrow is my last business day to get things done so done they will be. No nap, today so I hope for a full night of sleep. That’s soon too. Tahred from doing nothing.
My wonder neighbors brought over two quarts of chili and some cornbread muffins last night so that was my one meal for today. Thinking about a PB&J though right now. Maybe I will.
You’re prolly right. But since it’s Wifey’s laptop, I’ll have to talk to her about disabling the touchpad. I don’t know if she uses it or not. It’s not the end of the world if I can’t. I’d just like a rational explanation. I don’t believe in spirits. Well, not those kind of spirits.
Don’t you know that if the Dems take those two senate seats in Georgia it’s gonna be the end of life on earth as we know it? At least that’s what I’m reading on some of the places I visit.
I gotta quit going there.
Going to Costco tomorrow. Need TP and other stuffs.

Good luck to you. You’re going to get it worse than we are, I think.
Made it! I got out of the car to the aroma of the fireplace, and walked into the house to the aroma of acorn squash.

flyboy , be safe driving. And if your wife doesn’t want to go to the Steak House, I’ll join you (looked up the menu on google).
Good steaks. I make better escargots, though.
