SCREAMING.
Actually, I would think that the majority of redheads have green eyes. My mom has that combo.
I have no hair. But when I did, it was light brown.
And talking about skipping a generation, my son has straight red hair and blue eyes. He’s cute as a button. But ladies, you’ll have to back off, as he is three years old.
Hi,
I come from a family with 5 out of 6 of us are redheads (all the kids, dad and even mom has some copper highlights to her brunette hair). We are all pretty typical- lots and lots of freckles, very fair skin. My arms are tan because I spend alot of time outside but the rest of my body resembles the underbelly of a whale ;)…
My youngest sister has very fair eyebrows and eyelashes, but she also has a very strong face and bright, bright blue eyes (my brother has identical coloring to her). She and my brother were geniune “carrot tops” when they were kids, but their hair has become more red/gold which is really beautiful. My other sister and I have dark (mine are almost black) eyebrows and rounder faces, and that works well. I was actually born with almost black hair that turned auburn. Sometimes people argue with me about my redheadedness but I got the crotch-proof if anyone cares. I think we all look unique and “above average” but only beautiful to those who appreciate redheads. I did spend my young adult years alternatively getting barked at or flat out complimented- which is very confusing :).
Being in a family of redheads meant that I wasn’t just a freak, I was a part of a freak-circus. But I like being a redhead now.
Seriously? What sort of nationalities have the other redheads you’ve known had? Russian, Polish? Many (maybe most) Scots-Irish redheads have blue eyes. Like I said to BrightPenny, I’ve only seen two brown-eyed redheads my entire life. The rest have had blue eyes like the ones in my family do, with the exception of couple others with green eyes, but that’s more of a literature cliche than a typical eye color for a redhead. (I don’t think writers realize that many redheads they see with “green eyes” really have blue eyes that reflect green well. My eyes sometimes look green, but they’re not.)
None of the redheads I have met have a majority of Irish or Scot blood.
My red hair came from my mom’s maternal grandfather. No one seems to know what his nationality was. I am the only true redhead in the family since he died. The majority of my family (both sides) has grey blue eyes. I have dark blue. My mom has green. We are mostly of Ukranian descent but my dad’s family has some Scot (we think), possibly some English and Native American.
Of my friends (I have 3redheaded friends), 1 is of English descent, 1 is French-Canadian and 1 is French.
Of those friends, the one of English descent has the same hair color I do and he’s the only other one with blue eyes. His are also dark blue but he has flecks of orange - very cool.
The others have brown eyes and their hair is a darker red.
The whole genetics of red hair is interesting. My mother was one of seven siblings and she was the only red head. Her mother was Irish so I’m sure there were red heads on that side of the family. She got teased unmercifilly as a kid. She always hated being called a “carrot top” because she said the tops of carrots were green.
Anyway, she married a guy with brown hair and had five kids. The first child had brown-red hair, the next three had very red hair and the last was almost white blonde as a baby. That was me. I figured my mother ran out of the red head genes by the time she got to me. I got teased unmercifilly by my family for not being a red head. I got called a toe-head, I never understood that term. I was told I was left on the doorstep. But I started noticing that I did have individual red hairs mixed in with the blonde, they were mostly underneath the blonde. I don’t need to explain that individual red hairs are thicker and wavier than blonde hairs, right? Anyway, I grew up wishing I had red hair like my sisters because it was beautiful and wavy. (She wanted straight blonde hair like mine.)
As I got older the red hair started taking over and my overall hair color became more red gold. I even have a little bit of natural waviness. Now I am what you may call a strawberry blonde, but some call me a redhead. I think it depends on how much time I spend in the sun which tends to make me look blonder. So I have the redhead genes and actual natural red hairs and I consider myself a red head now. The final proof that I’m a redhead is something you all will just have to take my word for, the “carpeting” is even redder than the “curtains”.
I didn’t get the same teasing growing up as most redheads but I think I would have preferred that to the “you were adopted” stuff I got from my brothers. I don’t think I could ever go for a redheaded guy because they would remind me too much of my brothers.
They were calling you tow headed, it refers to the color of flax, and is an old term for blonde or light colored hair.
Lok
Now we really need another pan-Florida Dopefest. I want to see if the carpeting is as plush as proclaimed.
FWIW, my younger brother was apparently tow-headed when he was very little and we all forgot about it. Then one day, many, many years later we were all looking at old slided and there were some shots from a camping trip. There were pictures of my older brother, me, my baby sister, and some strange blonde kid strapped in a car seat (of sorts). We could only figure it had to be my brother. It was our car, there were lots of pictures of this kid, and no one else there. It was his face. Just the hair was all wrong. We checked other pictures from that period and his hair was the same. But after that his hair was brown. Dark brown, much darker than mine. It’s still thick, dark brown to this day, with some reddish highlights from the sun. At the time we mostly had crew cuts so maybe this is why we don’t really remember the white blond days.
I had white-blonde hair when I was younger. Nobody believes it’s me in my pictures.
Now I have dark brown hair (black if it’s wet or dirty).
My friends figure the hair change happened with the corruption of my soul.
Well, I’m a redhead, and I’m a total fox, but mostly that’s because I have a great rack and I put out.
So, how you doin’
My dad & siblings all have red/auburn hair, which they say came from their dad, a Swede (as in born there). They all have eyes in the green/hazel range. I get my blue eyes from the maternal side mixed with a throwback gene on Dad’s mom’s side. That’s were you get into some Scot, English, and German.
The other thing I got from the Swedish genes was the squarehead - lucky me.
Checkin’ in as a redhair with dark green eyes. A super-average one. We’re there, just nobody looks at us.
I’ll venture a guess that the extremes are only noticed as an afterthought. Like, “Wow! You know that redhead? She’s hooot!” Or, conversely, “Man, she’s a dog. That one with the red hair…”
I dunno.
I don’t have a digital pic available, and even if I did, I wouldn’t know how to link it up, so nyah!
My favorite answer to the question of whether or not the carpet matches the drapes is,
“Hardwood floors.”
HA! That’s always been my answer.
I’m going to jump in here real quick.
First of all, I LOVE redheads. My mother looked just like Shirly Temple when she was a child, deep auburn corckscrew curls, lots of freckles, green eyes, etc. I am not a “red” like her (and my uncle and two cousins), but I pull it off pretty well. I don’t have the freckles or the light eyelashes, but I have the pale skin and green eyes. My hair is a brownish-auburn and I “enhance” the aubrun. Most people are fooled for some reason though.
I absolutely adore red-headed men though. Some of them are the sexiest men I have ever seen. I dated a guy in college who was beautiful, some people thought he was ugly, but I didn’t. He has a really strong jaw line and sharp features with the bright red hair. Covered in freckles. He was also a “skater” type guy, I always fell for the bad guys then. But I love my brunette cutie of a husband, I wouldn’t trade him for the world!
All that being said, I think I can pull off a pretty good average redhead. Here’s the evidence: photo 1, photo 2.
Average? You’ve got to be kidding! Your extremely pretty and hot!
Count me as one of the many who swoon over you!
Both fine attributes in a woman.
Agreed. I’m one of her geek hangers-on but she’s not beautiful in any of those pictures and she actually scares me in one of them.
Awesome.
Checking in for the sake of completeness: Dark red hair, blue eyes. Very average; I have a disproportionately large head (and feet) but small facial features. Don’t have any digital pictures, sorry. When I was very small I was considered adorable by some elderly ladies and such, which was an ordeal as I was painfully shy.
My brother: Red hair (and beard), blue eyes. Completely bald on top, overweight and short. Scowls a lot. Not much to look at.
Genetics: The only redheaded relative on my mother’s side is a second cousin. My father’s mother was redhaired. My father had black hair, but his beard had a reddish tint if he let it grow.
Are you nuts?
