I heard this afternoon that the somewhat funny thing was that Campbell had been doing some anti-drunk driving public service announcements just before going on vacation. Also, his wife wasn’t in the car with him.

Don’t get too excited guys…the phrase “Premier Christy Clark” should give us pause!
So what is it about BC premiers? Am I right that Dave Barrett was the last Premier who didn’t resign under a cloud, or get in trouble afterwards (in the case of Bennett Jr.)? Twenty-five years worth of premiers getting in trouble? what’s so unusual about B.C. politics that you get such a string?
(oh, wait - just remembered what’s-her-name who took over briefly from the Zam. I don’t think she got into trouble - but then, she hardly had time.)

yep - there’s just something about politicians in the West.
And I’m not sure that the folks on the way west coast have quite the same love for Campbell that us Albertans have for Ralph - the man could run down schoolchildren in a car he stole from an elderly couple and we’d still re-elect him by a landslide.

Wonder if this means that he is no longer welcome in B.C.? Any american with a DUI is no longer welcome in Canada.

Long story short, Corbomite, Clark’s job as Minister of Education has been mainly to increase class sizes and close rural schools, all the while trumpeting that there will be no cuts to the education budget. In fact, school boards have had to absorb inflation and an increase to teacher’s salaries (overdue); her real crime, however is just being a too damn perky cheerleader for a government that cancelled funding for talking books for the blind to save a lousy $150K.

Kim Campbell at least allowed herself to be photographed (tastefully) nude, which may have counted as scandalous for some folks. (Not this puppy, though.)

I wonder if being Premier of British Columbia is going to count towards his community service (provided he gets it)…

Are you kidding? He hasn’t done the people of BC anything but dis-service since he took office.
Well, maybe not. We didn’t really need those hospitals, emergency services, decent class sizes and jobs anyway. They were just getting in the way of my getting a tax break.
