Mrs. Plant (v.3.0) eats that Vile Substance right out of the jar.
I only eat it on a Reuben sandwich.
:dubious:
Home, fed and about to call it a day. I got a ton of stuff done today. Still got plenty to do. I’m getting a lot of phone calls for air show seating. Apparently the website does not work with IE so the phone is ringing. We will sell out of seating very quickly I think.
Work is still being interesting; interesting not being a good thing to me. As I understand the events of the last week.
1 - peak ended
2 - temps were released
3 - we got slammed for New Years and met the challenge
4 - A whole bunch of us resigned/quit/said take this job and shove it
5 - Seattle was so impressed at how we did during peak that they raised our volume
6 - someone should have ordered some lube because we are getting *%^&#$
7 - the “jobs available” sign is out but it will take a month before the new crop arrives
The bad part is that a lot of us are willing to do what it takes and stay extra hours -------- BUT because peak is over we are limited to 30 hours per week again. Our building manager is negotiating that with TPTB but for now its a real cluster*%^&.
What do you do for a living, kopek? I repair computers and keep a network running.
Is that the sister of the multi-colored hair?
Man, I wish it was the original date.
My shoelace came untied during my run. Do ya know how hard it is to tie your shoe with mittens on? Do you know how hard it is to tie your shoe w/o mittens on in 22°?
(I was able to do the former, & double knotted it so it would last.)
Shipping + Seattle; he works for a tribe of South American female warriors.
If it’s got a normal amount of stupid I’m ok with that.
It’s in consulting, but full time, for an IT-consulting firm that’s still in the set-up stages for their Spanish location.
We’re a good location for IT firms: lots of people with solid technical backgrounds, generally well-educated population, it’s easy to convince others to move here (if you’re smack in the middle and manage to avoid rush traffic, the beach is 4-5h away; definitely a big incentive), the salaries aren’t as high as in most other western-european countries but neither is the cost of living… And a lot of companies have figured out that being in “the provinces” is a lot cheaper than being in Madrid but the pool of people and the services aren’t terribly dissimilar. If you set up in a location with good STEM schools, you can just funnel in their graduates: for example, Gijón has several “programmer farms” feeding off the Mining School and its not-so-famous STEM sisters.
Sorry for ths Stuff at work, kopek. I find the whole concept of “all warehouses must be empty on Dec 31st and full on Jan 1” enormously irritating. It’s a case of confusing the photograph and the subject, of people focusing on “getting the indicators right” instead of on “doing things right”.
I worked. I came home. Cold beer, and colder temps.
I need an emergency vacation week in Key West.
Ruble ,sorry about the whole FUBAR at work.
Moooommmm, if I can swing it, I will try to come.
Congrats, Nava!
I’m up - I don’t know why but after over an hour of trying to go back to sleep I decided to stay up for a bit.
Of course 5 minutes before the alarm is due to go off I’ll be falling asleep.
No, that sister is going to see Garth Brooks instead of coming to see me. She’s such a spoiled brat!
**doggio **- I’d love to see you, and I’d be properly impressed if you made such a drive! We’re about 3 hours from the VA/NC border via 95/207/301/234/238/5.
A brisk and invigorating 17° this morning. But less wind than yesterday, so that’s a plus. Late in the day yesterday, my engineer said he’d be giving us some modeling to do (computer modeling, not “show me lust” modeling… ) That’s good - I’m not as adept with modeling yet, so it should slow me down. Theoretically. We shall see.
Oh yeah, and I started the day wit Taz peeing on me! Apparently when I’m on my side with my hand on FCD’s back, Taz has to pee on my back. Little jerk. He mostly got the comforter, and I just sprayed Nature’s Miracle on the 2 small spots on the sheet. But it’s so weird - if I stay lying on my back, he’ll plaster himself next to me. If I’m on my side, I’m a urinal.
And a Happy Wednesday to you.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 34 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 54 and sunny for the day. Cool, but not too bad so I’ll take it.
MOOOOOOM ICK!
ruble sorry for all the bad stuff at irk. Here’s hopin’ stuff gets fixed soonest.
OK, that’s all I got. I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and alack, irk purtification must commence. Le sigh.
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
I think Taz needs kitty diapers.
It’s only edible if it’s been cooked.
17 American degrees in the high country. I need to warm up my car. Hopefully today will be the last day I need to crack a window when I run the heat.
Conga-rats, Nava - I hope this one has less stupid than some of those contracts.
ruble, your irkplace needs to get a clue…do you have a spare one to lend them?
I am at irk, it is irksome. We have a bunch of students from overseas who come to us for a single semester, we are in the process of getting transcripts done for the outgoing semester 1 students, and sorting out registrations for the incoming semester 2 students. Except someone, somewhere is registering them on modules they’re not allowed to take, the students are turning up at the office asking for timetables and we’re then having to tell them they can’t take it anyway. Irksome!
Went to the gym last night, it was full of new year’s resolutionaries. Give it a week or so and it’ll be empty again.
major blurfage - thinking of rescheduling my doctor’s appointment
Ummm, I’d go see Garth, too. :o
You don’t sound to pissed off that you were pissed on.
Clearly you’re not lying in the right position & displeasure has been duly noted.
Up, caffeinated, closing again. It’s 22 outside.
It is not wise to criticize our Feline Overlords.
Happy Hump Day!
I should have stayed up. Instead I fell back asleep and over slept and was late logging in to irk.
I feel blurfy as hell.
It’s a cold 19 degrees out.
I have to go out sometime today to get rid of my tires and get the text books.
First I have to finish up the morning shift and I need something warm on my sore throat.
Work and what I do for a living are slightly different things. For the last 20 years or so most of my income comes from history; setting up history events, educational programs, and technical proof-reading. I also do some consulting work with amusement parks. Good investments when I was younger helped as well.
The issue for me has always been that this doesn’t take up a lot of time and I have a horribly low boredom threshold. So for the last 20 years I’ve always had a “job” as well. The current one is in a shipping center for that big internet shopping business named after the South American jungle. Basically we are their in-house shippers for their Prime members in half of PA and big parts of Ohio, WVa, NY and some of Maryland. Its interesting basically being a scholar of sorts in a warehouse setting and I wouldn’t give it up for the world. I got here the same time it was opening so I’ve seen the thing develop, good and bad. Who knows? Maybe some day there will be a book in it.
I write it off to growing pains; we’re a year old and heading for our Terrible Twos. The only other choice is building my own little company again and I HATED HATED HATED that. So I’ll just keep my grin going and make notes. Like I just told Plant – there could be a book in it some day.
Seriously – I’ve tried and some of the stuff I have come with up has actually been adopted. But the big issue will always be that even the manager of the entire operation gets to have not-very-much say about the day to day stuff. All that comes down from the Northwest.
On the good news front; we’re having a slight warming of the weather and I have some peppers and sausage simmering downstairs. The day is becoming more survivable as I type.
