Midget, if I have to cancel, it won’t be the day of, assuming the house doesn’t catch fire or something… So no worries there - there will be plenty of warning.
Just talked to my mom - she starts PT tomorrow. Hard to tell how long before she’ll be able to drive and stuff, but the docs scared her enough that she’ll behave herself. So there’s that.
Home, champagned, fed and almost ready for sleep except it’s too early. I enjoy my quiet time when hubs is away. I could easily get used to living alone. Food budget would be much less, house stays cleaner, no horseshit. Yep, I could get used to this.
Howdy Y’all! Home from the Epiphany service. 'Twas a nice service with a biiiiiiig crowd. I was on ush duty and part of that is to count the number of people and get the tally to the Verger at the Peace so there’s an idea of how many people will come up for Communion. We’d get a count then somebody else would show up. Again, again, again, and again. When nobody showed up again, at last, we had to get a new tally sheet for the total number cause we had scribbled all over the first one to the point nobody would have been able to figure out the final count. Fun times.
rosie may you have weird nigh onto hallucinogenic dreams. Howzzat?
Speakin’ of dreams, OYKW has retired for the evenin’ and I shall join him shortly. I’s tahrd!
Hugs your way Gotti. The more people I meet, the more I like and miss the dogs that have been in my life. From old Sam to Shadow, they were all treasures I miss.
I suggest doing it before it all sinks down or gets paved over. Their capital looks like those “island cities” my brothers and I used to build in SimCity back before its name got numbers, when monitors were monochrome…

If you get a new puppy, remember that it’s better to pick one up in person from a local shelter than have the warrior women ship it. Less likely to be dizzy and cranky on arrival, you know.
I don’t have a nickname because while I’ve been having you guys abandoned (I did lurk), I used to be a frequent MMP poster back when only people with long names got nicks.
So, the new shift supervisor got sacked for stealing today, and the other one is suspended for the last week and a half, pending investigation. And the manager is leaving. Looks like it might end up being my store by default.
Me, too.
That’s my bed time reading. I have pleasant dreams.
All this “skirting and name games” rubs me a little but TPTB are real real real serious about anyone talking on “social media”. Good or bad. So we play the game.
Not so much a monster as – I don’t know. Maybe the guy the phrase “penny wise and Pound foolish” was patterned after?
Some of the horror stories are true, I’m sure. I know a few to be true. But the majority are really just stories. Fulfillment Centers I know are different from us Shipping places but if someone gives it their best here and that best happens to be half of mine or even less, they can be around for more than a year. If they always give their all and are pleasant to work with, they have value and that’s seen and recognized. And if something comes up our managers do what they can. One guy has been getting some “slack” and being allowed to leave earlier than allowed so he can help his mother recover after a serious illness. Shenannigan-like but they worked something quietly out. Now cruise in and think you are going to be able to slack around and do what you want and you see the door surprisingly fast. Be a total douche you can move boxes like the wind and you won’t even have to clean out your locker; security will have it boxed for you by the time you cross the building. But if you work hard, you can be as goofy as me and still be valued and employed.
The issue becomes sometimes what we call standard work. The Head Office wants every shipping place to do the same exact thing the same exact way. And the Head Office has the FINAL SAY in everything. People around the Burgh ain’t like people around Merrylande, the weather here isn’t like the weather in Hawaii, our building is a conversion with second-hand equipment and not purpose built. And the most experienced and oldest facility in the company has exactly 34 days on us; we were the 6th to open its doors. So we all stumble sometimes and get frustrated.
My heart goes out to our managers; the salary people who sometimes put in 50-80 hour weeks. The ones who want to say yes but have to say no. The ones who know we’re the best team in the system but keep getting reminded that they are “management” and we’re “just associates”. The ones who have all the headaches and very little say. The last of the associates HAD to leave at 1am - company policy; some of the management team stayed last night until 4am trying to get every last package out – and failed. Rather than be praised for doing more than humanly possible, word is they had to write reports like we did back in school on what and why they “failed”. A lowly peasant Associate like me? No better job in the world. For someone looking at a serious career place to work 20 years climbing up the ladder? Not so much. But even there its getting better. I won’t say why I know but ---- I know. For a fact.
So keep ordering. With some confidence that there is a lot of chances for a better future.
(yeah – I know, I know – but its late and a play on Hava Nagila was the best I could come up with)
FIRST!!! WOOHOO!!! I knew there was a reason I stayed up!
(((((gotti))))), sorry to hear about the pup, they leave such a large hole behind them.
I had to take Ophelia to the vet yesterday, she was very well-behaved while they did the exam and her vaccinations, less so when the vet stuck a thermometer up her undercarriage but then again, who wouldn’t be?
The lump on her neck fits neither the criteria for abcess nor for cyst so they are not sure what it is. I’m taking her back next week for a fine-needle aspirate so they can take some cells and send them off for testing. It will be another 4-5 days after that before they have a result, and even then it may be inconclusive. The good news is that she’s not distressed or in pain, and the mass looks as if it would be quite easy to remove surgically if that’s what has to be done.
On a brighter note, we tried out a new pub last night. Not exactly new, it used to be the Tap and Spile, run by a redoubtable lady known as Effin’ Sue. She retired last year and the place changed hands, and name, to become the Duke of York. The new owners are very nice people, we had a natter with them since we were the only customers they’d got. Turns out Wednesday is a good night to go, that’s the night they clean the pipes so once they started emptying the pipes around 10.30pm, we were gifted with a large quantity of free beer! I suspect that’s going to become our new favourite pub.
Irk continues to be irksome, it’s still fairly quiet so we are all doing our best to look busy without actually achieving much. I’m looking forward to next week when the students are back and things pick up again. Tonight’s treat will be grocery shopping…envy me.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffeinated, and purtified, so no YAWN. ‘Tis 45 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 60 and cloudy for the day with rain tonight. Rah. We’re goin’ to Pearly’s for brekkie this mornin’ and then I’m headin’ down to the southwest 40 for most of my irk day. At least the weather will be somewhat pleasant and not as cold as it has been this week, so there’s that.
I hear rumblin’s from the bedroom which indicate OYKW is now purtified and ready to go. Pearly’s, here we come! I’m glad cause da bear is hongry!
It’s a beautiful, non-freezing morning. OK, I don’t know how beautiful it is because it’s dark, but maybe it’ll become a self-fulfilling prophecy, right?
I went to bed early, but could NOT fall asleep, and I kept waking up all night. It’s gonna be a long day. But it’ll be a busy day. Jason sent a list to me and my co-hire and we divided the work between us. One I’d already started, so I claimed that drawing. The other two should be simple enough, so in a few minutes, I’ll be deep into it. Yay!
Today, my mom is 82 and she starts her physical therapy. Tough old bird, that one… Today is also my payday! WOOHOO!!
Made a sheet music sale the other day - the first of the year.
I was submitting some new sheer music for publication last week, and I had to type the word “public” as part of the description, and I almost left out the “L.” Good thing I double-checked it first.
Moooom, the terra-cotta warriors, Great wall, and Shanghai seem to be part of any guided trip to China. I also want to add Hong Kong (figure I may only get there once, so see all I can).
Sorry I can’t make your party–1200+ miles of driving (round trip) is a bit much for a weekend
Maldives, eh, Sunny? I’ll have to look at them. Thing is, I made myself a promise when I was in my twenties (NOT the 1920’s!!!) that if possible, I would see three places in the world; England, Africa, and China. I’ve gotten the first two done, along with some other neat places, but something always came up when I was saying that ‘this is the year for China’. Well, at 63, I figure I might as well ‘git’er done’.
Of course, if I can win the Powerball I’ll take all y’all (well, most of you…I have my doubts about spidey and flytrap… ) with me. Wouldn’t pack your bags quite yet; still have to get to Tennessee to buy them, since Ali-bama doesn’t allow none of that sinful gamblin’ here in-state.
It’s Thorsday already? Doesn’t feel like it, but I’m not complaining. Might even get some work done.
Taking a break from drawing frustration. Don’t know why I’m having such problems, but my brain needs to chill before I dig back in and try to figure things out.
I just gave my brain a little chocolate - we’ll see if that helps.
