BAD Scifi channel... Bad! (Or, Starbuck is female?)

I saw this Battlestar Galactica remake web page thanks to Fark and now I wish I hadn’t. Edward James Almos as Adama? Boomer and Starbuck are female? And will the cylons have special effect enhancements that make them look like Jar Jar Binks? The cast makes the show look like it will be on par with the “remake” of Rollerball.

All I can say is that the Science Fiction channel is adding yet another nail to the coffin containing the hopes and dreams of avid science fiction fans who yearn for good television.

I don’t object to them making a remake of BG, but why change it. If you want to copy someone elses work, then at least copy it well. I hate all this ‘re-imagining’ crap. I wonder if this can possibly be as bad as ‘Planet of the Apes’ (can anything?).

Its a real shame that the sci-fi channel seems to be going down the tubes. I have no intention of watching Tremors, Stargate has got stale and now this. And they cancelled Farscape?!?!?! WTF are they thinking? Stop producing one of the best written shows in years to make three series they’ve copied from movies.

Hey, if Ron Moore is writing and producing. This is gong to be good.

Where did you see the Cylons?

You mean good in that Star Trek TNG/DSN kind of way where the writing is terrible and the story is totally inconsistent from episode to episode? Maybe Ron will find a way to write Warf into the show.

And I didn’t see the cylons… just the red glowing dot moving back and forth on the trailer.

He developed background and wrote a related arc instead of episodic sex & action that Andromeda has turned into without him.

I wasn’t wild about “Battlestar Pondersoa”, so maybe there is some important aspect you don’t want to lose. I can see that a lady Starbuck might annoy viewers of the original series.

I’m once again going to be the optimist from these trailer is looks like many of the menfolk are R.I.P. There seems to be a great deal of femal characters. Adama looks better as a worn grizzled warrior rather than Pa Cartwright.

From the looks of it maybe the creators realized it was just stupid for a race who has been at war for 1000 years with robots/cyborgs who hate humanity “with every fibre of their being” to suddenly accept a peace talk and leave the colonies undefended. More likely there was one last epic battle that destroyed the fleet sparing only the Galactica.

Personally I found the original series to be crappy, the original characters (except maybe Apollo) were cardboard cut out rip offs of Star Wars and so any changes may be good.

If done right this could be a nice new bit of Scifi or a bomb. Either way I’m not ruffled by it.

The original seiries was crappy, but I loved it as a kid. I’m sure a lot people are like me, where the only thing that would satisfy their adult sensibilites is a sophisticated sequel with (at least) Richard Hatch as Starbuck.

The problem is this “reimagining” will turn off the old fans like me, and a goofy sequel without modern sensibilites would be just a joke.

I found all the teasers to be very lame. Well, not all, the shots of the ships were nice…at least those look cool still. Although, I was waiting for at least one shot of a ship turboing down the tunnel. Always loved that part.

But all these little “seduction” trailers? WTF is that all about? And a Lady Starbuck? Well, could be interesting if they keep the character a womanizer, but somehow I doubt it. Space apparently still isn’t ready for same sex couples unless they’re from an alternate “evil” dimension.

I’m intereseted to see what the Cylons look like, but they were/are one of the best sci-fi villains in terms of recognition, and any drastic changes to them is going to suck. Eh, I don’t have sci-fi, and I’m not all too upset seeing these trailers.

Are you mad? The hairspray budget alone would bankrupt most modern tv shows!

Since Gallactica was pretty mediocre to begin with, there’s a lot of reason to try to improve it. Personally, they should trash everything but the basic concept.

Nitpick: Richard Hatch played Apollo. Starbuck was played by Dirk Benedict (who later was on The A Team).

I also can’t see why, if they felt the need for a couple of hot female pilots, they couldn’t have made Athena (Apollo’s sister, a lieutenant and a flight controller on the bridge in the original) a pilot, or used Sheba (daughter of the legendary commander of the Battlestar Pegasus and a hot pilot in the later episodes of the original)? Starbuck and Apollo should be male, just to get the buddy dynamic.

Whatever happens, if we hear or see the Imperious Leader, he must, I say MUST, be voiced by Patrick Macnee.

[:p]Now, wait a minute! On all the Starbuck’s coffee cups, she’s female! What?[/:p]

Anyway, I’m all in favor Starbuck being female, and played by Richard Hatch.

Survivor’s Richard Hatch.
