My daughter has conceived of a vast Disneyland-style theme park called Barbie Wonder World. It’s located in the town of Brbie, New Jersey. She’s drawn maps of how to get there, and how it’s laid out.
My daughter is four.
I have no idea how she came up with this – she’s never been to a theme park, and we never discussed one with her. She even came up wth the name “Barbie Wonder World” herself. I think she really believes in this. I am alternately astonished, proud, and scared by this.
Any of you other Doper parents have experiences like this?
At around the same age, my daughter made up a board game, using a soda case box and pieces cut out of construction paper. I have a video of her explaining how to play - something about getting a bird back into the nest. It was very involved and had “Strt” and “End” squares, along with some pretty intricate drawings.
She’s 12 now and she’s turning out to be a genius (okay, okay, just extremely bright, but I’m her mother, after all). I’ll bet yours is heading that direction, too, and I’m sure you’re giving her all the support and encouragement she needs. Congratulations!
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, Cal, that’s so cute. When I was your daughter’s age, I designed a cartoon and a line of merchandising. It never got beyond me scribbling on paper and thinking how cool it would be to be famous, but still.

Hey this would be really cool. You could have a ride that was a whole lot of pink dream convertibles on a track that went through sites where Barbie and her model friends were posing in photo shoots - near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Ken could be teasing the girls and Barbie could be saying “Oh Ken stop teasing us” as you drive past in her cute Barbie Voice.
And maybe there could be a Barbie Sleepover ride, where you see Barbie and Midge and Teresa (hispanic Barbie) toasting marshmallows and having pillow fights.
There could be an audioanimatronic show of Barbie as Dolly Madison, Martha Washington, Jackie Kennedy and Hilary Clinton. Midge could be Lady Bird Johnson. And Ken could be George W. Bush, for a good laugh at the end.
