Baseball - How's your team doing?

YAY!!

A pitchers’ duel favors the Tigers, I’d say. My spider sense tells me that Polanco is hurt. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if he didn’t have surgery for his shoulder in the offseason. That’d be a fatal blow to lose him. Damn he’s good.

That silence is the Boston fans reading their labels of rat poison and wondering if it’ll do the job instead of answering the question.

Grady Little has a VERY bad rap for the way he managed Boston.

You know that and I know that and Red Sox fans know that, but I was honestly wondering what Dodger fans thought.
As far as the pitchers dual, yes it does favor the Tiger. Hopefully if the game ever gets started, the Yankees prove they have enough scouting.

anyrose, Congrats. I thought Delgado was going to take one from Jeter’s playbook. That was an excellent first game for him. Willie was made to look smart with Floyd hitting that home run.

That was the strangest Double Play I have seen in a long time.

Jim

I would think that Dodger fans are cool with Grady Little. He hasn’t wrapped both hands around his throat…yet.

Yanks - Detroit might start at 10pm EST. Problem is that another line of storms might roll in around 11pm. Decisions are being made.

Conjecture time: Game starts, goes 3-4 innings and delays another hour, both teams lose their starters. Who is likely to win?

Nevermind, game postponed until Tomorrow (Thursday) at 1:09 pm

TV commentators (from what I heard from dad) were slurping the Yankees, saying that Mussina was setting up the Tigers the entire game and what not. Good game, though. Damn good.

Zumaya, when on his game, is purdy much unhittable. Don’t know if you guys got the stat there, but Zumaya threw 239 pitches of a hundred miles per hour or over. The next was Kyle Farnsworth. He threw 19.

Mets up 2-0.

They beat the Dodgers tonight by playing good small ball, and relying on great pitching from Glavine and the bullpen. They were helped by some poor execution in the field by LA.

and hindered by the night winds blowing two potential homers (in a row) back in so they could be caught

Ah, yes. The definitive play of a game which had a lot of exciting moments for both teams… It will be talked about for years… And I was in the ballpark!

BUT I MISSED IT!!!

There I was, in the Mezzanine Reserved section 16 (not bad seats at all), waiting for some friends who were stuck in traffic and late to the game. They called my cell phone at the bottom of the first inning, just as Delgado was batting with two outs and one on, to say they’d arrived at the turnstiles. I told them that since they showed up late, they’d have to wait until the Mets finished batting for me to come down to give them their tickets.

Delgado singles, David Wright grounds out on a nice play at second by Jeff Kent, and down the ramps I go.

As I get to the turnstiles, I hear a roar from the crowd, followed shortly afterwards by a much louder roar. After my friends came in we went over to a concession stand with a TV over it, and saw the score at 0-0 with a runner on second and Marlon Anderson batting. We came over just in time to see him hit an RBI double. D’oh!

“So,” I asked someone who was coming off the concession line, “What was all the cheering about?”

“Double play,” he said over his shoulder, as he walked off. We got back to our seats in time to see the next batter make the third out. Seemed like we hadn’t really missed very much…

I didn’t even find out about this bizarre play until I got home and saw some highlight recaps of the game!!! BWAHHH!!

That stinks, but at least you were there for “Enter Sandman” and the the Win!

Game three tonight, Jim. How are you feeling with a 43245984365435 old lefty with a herniated disc pitching in 40 degree weather on the road?

Nervous, especially with Wright tomorrow. I am pinning my hope on Kenny Rodgers at this point. I think there is an axiom that states he cannot win in the post season. I want to knock him out early before your bullpen can rescue you.

I checked the Weather tonight and Tomorrow should be good there and Sunday should be good at Yankee Stadium.

Good Luck, of course I hope you lose, but good luck.

Jim

:snif: :frowning: My poor Padres.

Then again, we’ve come back from 0-2 playoff deficits before…

That’s probably your best bet – the Yanks are odds-on to win any potential slugfest. I though it sounded very unusual (and were I a Yankees fan, disturbing) that after his last bullpen session, his coaches all talked about how good Randy Johnson looked, while the Unit himself basically said, “I don’t know what they’re talking about”.

Sure, but you could afford to go to the game, presumably wouldn’t have had to miss the one class that makes or breaks your life as a chemist for both meetings of the week (1 PM starts for both San Diego games on freaking Tuesday and Thursday? WTF?), you likely don’t have to catch the girl up (with the class material) who doesn’t even appreciate the sport because she went to both games with her sugar daddy and missed both (extremely important) lectures, you probably get ESPN, and I bet you can even make out some of the players on Fox sometimes.

:frowning:

By the way, I’m liking Robinson Cano a lot more. I’m actually semi-impressed with him. I might rescind my anti-all-star comment about him.

Go Detroit!

Word!

Rogers was amazing tonight; pretty much unhittable. And the Tigers managed to put together a few good innings. The two runs they got in the 6th were crucial, coming with 2 outs. That really gave them some breathing room against a Yankee offence that can easily put together a big inning.
