Baseball Thread July 2008

Sound slike the Manny to the Marlins deal is off the table, and Bay is heading to Tampa instead.

Manny just went to the Dodgers for Jason Bay.

Holy crap, Manny’s a Dodger? That’s crazy. Well maybe he won’t seem so strange in LA. :stuck_out_tongue:

And by Tampa I meant Boston. Got to love the trade deadline, half hour after it is over no one has any idea what is going on.

This has been just bizarre.

I love how on ESPN News they have hours of sleep-inducing TV with Kurkijan and Steve Philips talking about the trade deadline… then, when the big trade happens, I flip on ESPN News to see Linda Cohen talking about Brett Favre.

I fucking hate ESPN.

This has been a fun one this year. Many big names and many interesting trades.

Manny trumps Texiera, will the Angels be jealous?

A bittersweet day for me.

My favorite player (Manny) leaves my favorite team, but now my favorite team has Jason Bay - a Canuck so that softens some of the blow for me.

Best of luck, Manny. Even with him being on the Dodgers, it still can’t bring me to cheer for them.

Hehehe, I was gonna ask, in the Manny trade, who got Favre??

Oh, and CUBS SWEEP!! CUBS SWEEP!! CUBS SWEEP!!!

Ok, so I’m a tad premature…

Now I get to spent the rest of my day explaining to people who Jason Bay is. Nice job by Pitt. Good to see Laroche finally go somewhere he will play.

Ok, NOW it’s a sweep!!
Brewers really didn’t show up to play this series. That’s gonna haunt them the whole rest of the season, whatever the Cubs do.

And not just a sweep, but a pretty decent shellacking in three of those games. Looks like Hardin was a better choice than Sabathia. Sorry Brewers, I still like your ballpark and the awesome food you serve.

Well, I can’t say that I like Manny on the Dodgers. That certainly makes the D-backs job even tougher. Still, Manny Ramirez in Dodger Stadium? Not exactly Fenway.

I now wonder if the D-Backs regret not pulling the trigger on the Connor jackson for Mark Teixiera trade. And as a Braves fan who wanted Jackson, all I can say is I hope LA wipes the floor with Arizona.

How 'bout doing so here, to a fellow Somervillian?

Just wait until Harden gets hurt again.

So where are out Dodger fans? I would have thought they would have popped in here by now to celebrate.

So, just to make sure I have this clear: Boston gets a little worse offensively, and gives up two prospects for the honor? Two halfway decent prospects?

Yowch.

I am a happy Yankee fan. I think and hope this trade helps the Yanks more than all the well crafted trades that Cashman made in the last week. Manny always hit the Yanks extra well and usually played his best defense against us. I doubt Bay will match what Manny did to us and as you pointed out, they surrendered two prospects for the privilege of overall getting a little worse.

I still believe in the end that Tampa will fade and it will be between the Yanks and Sox for the East and maybe the Wild Card too.

Jim

They had to get rid of him. That’s the only way I can explain that.
