Baseball

Yes, I am a Yankees fan, thank you.

And I think it’s cute and kind of noble of all you guys (and your little teams) to keep trying year after year after year…

Braves! The Minnesota Vikings of baseball… ::snicker::

Oh, yeah. And John Smoltz. DL.

Actually, it’s not the Braves I dislike so much as their fans. No, not all of them. Put down that there hickory stick! I’m talking about you fair-weather fans who haven’t a clue what baseball is, but you know your Braves! That team had zero fans when it stunk in 1990, and then suddenly had a zillion of 'em. Yes, I’m aware that success breeds fans, but c’mon now - for a city as large as Atlanta, you should have had more fannies in the seats. The only way to go from being team non grata to being “America’s Team” is if you get a lot of bandwagon-jumpers. And where were those fans during the opening playoff rounds of the past couple years? Asleep?

And then there’s that asinine CHOP…

Ok, ok. I’m calm now. Good luck to you, Atlanta, although you won’t need it as much as my team: Philly. You’ll win the division again, I wager. :stuck_out_tongue:

Red Sox fan here. I fully expect us to repeat again as well. :frowning:

“Baseball been berry, berry good to me.”

Go Phils! Thank the lord this should be our next-to-last season in the monstrosity named “Veterans’ Stadium.”

Spooje checking in, who digs the Dodgers and Angels of Southern California!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

I love baseball!!!

I’ll be back when they ditch the wildcard and bring back pennant races.

C’mon RTF, don’t let a little thing like wild cards keep you from enjoying the game itself, or the challenge of trying to diagram anything uttered by my Tribe’s manager Charlie Manuel.

And as the season starts, let’s all have a moment of silence for that bird Randy Johnson so brutally killed.

Actually let’s have a moment of silence for Randy Johnson and his fastball which was so rudely interupted.

I love baseball, just got out of my roto draft yesterday (Renteria for $15! WOO!)

But I’ll come back to MLB full time when a merciful God hits Camden Yards with a meteor and removes Angelos and his obstructin’ ass from this plane of existence!

Baseball in DC! Now!

That’s it, AudreyK, c’mon over to the dark side!

Life-long Yankees fan here, now living in Braves country. My co-workers can’t even say anything to me anymore. I see their mouths move, and I hear lots of stammering and arm-flailing, then they just walk off shaking their heads. I just love it.

Over the last 40 years, the Yankees have never won a World Series while a Republican was in the White House. GW is a Republican, in case you Yanks haven’t figured that out.

It’s a fact, look it up. 4 years of losses for “youse guys”.

Nyahh

GO BRAVES!

The Yankees are evil and must be destroyed.

You here me???

EEEEEVIL

I’m with RTFirefly. Actually, do they still play baseball? I kind of stopped paying attention after 1994. I used to like it when they played a World Series every year, but then I’m one of those damned traditionalists.

Jonathan - they had 2 teams. Both moved. Being snubbed for MINNESOTA? ::ducking::

Closest you guys are coming is Ws monthly teeball games on the South Lawn.

Camden Yards is a nice place (I can smell Boog's now..), even if Angelos is a jerk.

Yeah, we had a couple chances. But things have changed! Really!

Actually, I would like the Expos to move to DC. Seems like no one goes to Expos games. And they’re not a bad team, not at all. They have a wonderful manager and some of the best young talent around. Too bad so much of their young talent winds up elsewhere. And the city itself isn’t the huge market that <ahem> DC is. Cmon over here, Expos!

Time was I’d have agreed with you. Fact is, Cashman, Torre, et al. have built an organization that you can’t help but respect – and as a lifelong Yankee-hater and Braves fan since the mid eighties, that’s not easy for me to say. Nevertheless, they’ve shown themselves to be capable of developing talent interally and supplementing that with smart acquisitions that are designed to improve the team, instead of the random flinging about of cash that characterized their personnel decisions in the past. As organizations, the Yankees and Braves are the cream of the crop, and it shows in the on-field results for the last decade.

I’d say that these days, the Orioles and Dodgers represent the axis of evil in the game, illustrating neatly that both dominant individual owners (Angelos) and soul-less corporations (Fox) can be completely wrong-headed in running a baseball franchise.

I’m really hoping that the AOL Time Warner-mandated cutbacks in the Braves organization this spring were merely a symbolic gesture dictated by a need to demonstrate that every part of the far-flung empire was being evaluated and asked to be fiscally responsible. If it’s a sign of how AOL TW intends to run the franchise going forward (i.e., skimping on player scouting and development), Turner Field will be looking a lot like Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium used to pretty soon.

Rick Reilly said it better than I could. When the Yankees get themselves a real payroll (i.e. one that isn’t $40 million higher than the average), I’ll take 'em seriously.

And how many games did the Yankees win last year? 87? Tribe won 90. Wasn’t their fault the Central was tougher than the East last year. At the end of the year, the Yankees breathed a huge sigh of relief (Joe Torre said so). They didn’t want to play the Tribe.

**
Then how do you explain his 26 errors?

Athletics fan checking in. I’m expecting a pretty exciting season from them with a decent chance at blowing some more money on post-season tickets. Season tickets for the first time.

It is a great time of year.

Dan-

I’m with you. The Orioles are just afraid we’ll eat their damn lunch.

Dan,
OK, The 'Spos pull what, 800,000 ? They oughta pull out and put the old Royals back (AAA). Montreal may just not be a baseball city. If Loria wants to move them, DC/ NVa makes sense.
