Baseball

Yeah, I think it does. I heard them talking about it, of all places on WTOP this morning during the sports report. Hey, all I can say is this: Instead of expanding and expanding, baseball needs to make sure that the cities that currently have teams are supporting them - not necessarily in fundings of new stadia but in a solid fanbase. Montreal doesn’t seem to want its Expos, but I could be mistaken. But if the people living in Montreal do want to keep the team, they’re gonna need to come out to the games. It’s just not going to continue to be economically feasible for the team to survive there.

And the biggest stumbling block for the DC/northern VA area getting a stadium is Peter Angelos himself, I believe. Doesn’t he have veto power over whether a new team comes to DC? Unless - aha, a loophole! - that team were a National League team.

I’m a recent transplant, but I sure hope to make it up to Camden Yards a few times this year.

Angels fan checking in. I have my tickets for the season ready, 21 games of pure bliss and heartache. I will be “out-of-the-office” from 12noon to about 3:30 tomorrow. Klondike bar and Orville Redenbacher popcorn at the ready. Baseball has begun <sigh> Happiness is once again upon us.

Frannie –

You have excellent taste in baseball teams. I’m listening to the Tribe now on RealAudio. My experience so far is that the Major League Baseball site (www.yourteam.mlb.com) is FAR worse at streaming audio than the RealNetworks site. Audio was frozen or broken about half the time on the MLB site; no hitches at all on RealNetworks.

We’ll have to figure out how to pay for this after the first week of baseball. . .

Maybe we should start a Yankee-haters thread. . . My contribution would be a question:

To whom was Roger Angell, renowned baseball writer for The New Yorker Magazine referring when he wrote of “overdressed, uncomprehending, autumn arrivistes?”

I do, yes. I was able to watch the game with my second graders. Although our Tribe lost, and my students’ attention spans are only about ten minutes long, we enjoyed ringing in the new season together.

Wow… well, I really do dislike the Yan*s a LOT, but it’s difficult to “hate” them cuz I’m such a sweetheart. You know what, though? If I could bring myself to hate, I think I might just be able to hatethem.

(Hey, how 'bout Juan G’s two HR’s!)

Woo hoo! Let’s go Royals! The official Kansas City Royals cheer, my friends…
Royals! Royals! Don’t be lame!
'Berto, 'Berto, save that game!
Dye and Sweeney, knock them in,
Damon’s gone, so pray for Quinn!

You’ll all be surprised when my Tigers win the Series. Mark my words.

Then how do you explain his 26 errors? **
[/QUOTE]

OK, bring your damn facts into this. Freaking wins and loses. Pfft.
And I explain the 26 errors by saying he can throw 250 feet, but its only 90 feet from 2nd to 1st. Of course now all his throws home will probably be on a freaking rope to 1st.

GO BRAVES!

So we have Dr. Jackson, dantheman, nothingman, audrey and myself as braves fans. Good to know.

Only if I ever have to abandon Atlanta. Seriously.

NL EAST W L PCT GB HOME ROAD vs. EAST vs. CENT vs. WEST STREAK
Philadelphia 1 0 1.000 - 00-00 01-00 01-00 00-00 00-00 Won 1

I just want to save this for posterity.

Go Phils!

Oh, hell, Montfort, I can do better than that:)

EAST W L PCT GB HOME ROAD EAST CENT WEST INTR L10
Atlanta 160 0 1.000 - 81-0 81-0 56-0 45-0 45-0 16-0 162-0

I would guess the suit-wearing celebs who show up for playoffs/world series after never being at the park all year?

Mets fan here. Always and forever. And I’ve been waiting TWO HOURS for the game to start already!

Stupid rain.

What makes it worse is that it’s like 50 degrees and beautiful here in NY. Why couldn’t they have opened at Shea? D’OH!

Hey, iampunha!

That should be

EAST W L PCT GB HOME ROAD EAST CENT WEST INTR L10
Atlanta 162 0 1.000 - 81-0 81-0 56-0 45-0 45-0 16-0 162-0

no?

Doesn’t make a difference anyway, because the Yanks will beat them in the series anyway!

Lurkernomore – close. He was actually referring to all Yankees fans.

I used to be a huge baseball fan…a Twins fan to be exact. But then they cancelled the World Series and then Kirby had to retire and they have gone ahead and created a horribly inequitable caste system and basically ruined everything worthwhile about what was once great.

Here one of those things that I’ll probably never get to say again in my lifetime. The Rockies are leading( or at least tied for the lead) baseball in ERA with 0.00 thanks to Hampton. We can buy a team just like NY and Atlanta so Pppbpbpbpbpbp to you.

My code:

EAST W L PCT GB HOME ROAD EAST CENT WEST INTR L10
Atlanta 160 0 1.000 - 81-0 81-0 56-0 45-0 45-0 16-0 162-0

Your code:

EAST W L PCT GB HOME ROAD EAST CENT WEST INTR L10
Atlanta 162 0 1.000 - 81-0 81-0 56-0 45-0 45-0 16-0 162-0

For the life of me I don’t see the difference between the two, zev.

I’m not alone…
this will be the year - I can feel it.

You had Atlanta with a total of 160 wins, but with 81 road wins and 81 home wins (for a total of 162).

But, as I said, it doesn’t make any difference. The Yanks are gonna win it all again.
