Baseball

I woke up this morning and the Jays and Expos were both tied for first place with perfect records. I have a feeling it’s downhill from here!

That’s also quite the trick going 162 and 0 for the last 10 games!

When the Lakers were something like 16-0 in the previous 16 games (last season), the L10 column said “16-0”, so I figured the same could apply here.

'Tain’t so.

Mets 6 - Braves 4

Ventura’s back. With a vengeance. Glad he stuck it to that goober Rocker.

I wish RocKKKer had blown it with a wild pitch....

May see you at a game sometime, Dave…

And the Phils surge into first place!!

Yay, Bowa-ball!!

Well, I can afford only one game a year, unfortunately. But I’ve already received my tickets for June 24. Atlanta at Shea. WOO HOO!

As John Franco said, “Tommy Lasorda said he bleeds Dodger Blue. Well, I bleed Mets whatever-colors-they-are.”

Lifelong White Sox fan here. You guys are all wrong, this is our year. World Series here we come!

Actually, I heard that he already misses Cleveland.

As to the Tribe, they’ll miss Manny, but Juan Gonzalez and Ellis Burks should mitigate his loss (though I’d rather have one great hitter than two good ones, one of whom is really old and the other of whom doesn’t get on base enough).

The Indians have more pitching than they’ve had in years. They made need it, though, because I’m not sure their hitting is as good (though, did you see that shot that Russ Branyan launched?). Also, their division is a bit tougher than the cakewalk it’s been before last year.

Dang! who was that? Haven’t seen you around enough lately, DRY.

Now if your boy Branyan hits more long shots, and doesn’t threaten the K record… (If Preston Wilson or Sosa don’t beat him to it…)

Me too!

Well, improving upon what they had certainly wasn’t difficult!

Oh, and C.C. Sabathia starts today! I’m not sure that he’s truly ready, but I’m still very excited.

[sub]One more thing: winter has segued right into summer here in Cleveland, so the weather will be glorious for today’s game.[/sub]

The Orioles are gonna be the team to beat!!! (or they better be anyway)… I remember their '96 season to this day…what a fantastic display of talent…

Although I can’t see the close calls from way up here in the upperdeck, I DO get the big picture. And the cost? You can’t beat it. One gripe for the idiot fan at the Sox vs Indians game at Cleveland: David Wells (or anyone who has suffered a personal loss) does not need some heckler getting close enough to the players to ask, “Hey Wells - where’s your Mother?” (Wells’ Mother passed away a year ago)in hopes of getting a rise or an advantage. Show some class. And enjoy the game. Go Sox!

Thanks for the compliment, lurkernomore!

I think Branyan might very well homer 30 plus times AND threaten the K record…

Frannie, one interesting thing to look for will be to see if the Indians monitor his pitch counts. Like many young pitchers with good “stuff” but limited control, Sabathia often makes a lot of pitches per inning. Hopefully, the Indians will limit him to 100 pitches per game–if they’re smart.

Pat Burrell of the first place Phiadelphia Phillies has already struck out twenty times this year. :o

Whoaaaaaa! I don’t think so! Reread my posts…

Not in this lifetime! I may think they’ll ultimately win the division and all, but I am NOT a Braves fan.

Actually, that’d be Omar Vizquel;), but on the Branyan note: Through yesterday, he’s played in 11 games, had 40 at bats, four HRs, and 19 strikeouts. (Gosh, being “one of the guys” is fun!)

OK, so why didn’t my subject show up in my last post? Hmmmmmm… Anyway, the subject was supposed to read:

“My Boy Branyan.”

(Now, the Vizquel comment probably makes more sense.)

Mmm. Omar. Is he the classiest guy in the game, or what? Plus, he’s got the best smile. I just love him.

That doesn’t stop me from being a big fan of the Thomenator. I just wish he’d get his game together.
