Battlestar Galactica 1.9: "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down" (spoiler spoiler burning bright)

I agree, if a guideline was established specifically for this thread that would certainly help everyone.

The Ellen character couldn’t have been more over-the-top no matter how much scenery she chewed. I have to figure she’s going to be essentially comic relief, but there’s some dramatic possibility in the pending exhaustion of the liquor supply.

So we finally learn Cdr Adama’s first name - and it’s BILL ??? Color me disappointed.

I have a question I’m embarrassed to ask. I watched this episode, well, most of it. I was lying on my couch. I really liked the show, but I’d worked long hours that day and was tired. The last thing I remember is after the dinner party, when Tigh and Ellen are leaving. Ellen starts blatting something about “Adama doesn’t know where Earth is!”

After that I don’t know what happened. I’ve been trying to piece it together from the posts above, but as you can imagine, it’s a little confusing.

So, can someone fill me in? By spoiler, email, open text, whatever. I take it Ellen is not a Cylon? Will she be staying with Tigh? And, ugh, someone said there may be something between Starbuck and Baltar, tell me it’s not true. What is it Tigh did at the end of the episode?

Did you see the parts with the damaged cylon raider?

At the end of the episode the cylon raider stopped it’s ineffectual FTL jumps and tried to ram the Galactica. Tigh ordered the alert fighters launched and they were able to destroy the raider before it impacted Galactica.

The point?

If you (or anyone else) have a DVD player that can play DVD+R disks I can send you a copy of the episode. My e-mail address is in my profile. Please put SDMB in the subject line.

Actually, we learned that way back in the first part of the miniseries - it being printed on the side of his old Viper and all.

Yes, but how did he get the callsign, “Husker?”

You mean in the huge city (or cities, it’s kind of hard to tell) that for some odd reason apparently suffered no structural damage from the massive nuclear bombardments and ongoing war? The one with the series of seemingly pristine tall skyscraper buildings?

I really want to like this show, and I’m honestly (believe me or not) not the kind of “Comic Book Guy” guy that picks at plot inconsistencies and unlikely scenarios in a sci-fi show, but some of the Galatica ones are really starting to get to me.

If they let Balthar engage in his completely batshit over-the-top anyone doing that no matter how gifted would be locked away for being a potential menace behavior for a few more episodes, I may need to be out. The guy is basically comic relief at this point. He’s supposed to be a genius, yet he acts as if he is minorly retarded. Again, suspension of disbelief is a problem there.

I’m starting to agree. Enough people have seen Batler acting this way to make it seem strange that nobody has even mentioned this yet, particulary considering that he’s working on things vital for their survival…and the fact he has a nuclear bomb under his control really suprises me that he has not be subjected to any kind of screening(that way know of).

I really hope that somebody notices this fairly soon and starts questioning Balters “Sanity”/integrity/etc.

Sorry, I’ve been looking around and can’t find the episodes (although it could be the cough medicine that’s making it difficult), do you have a linky-link? And are they available outside the US? Cos we’ve got no hint as to when, if ever, this show will play in this part of the world sigh.

It’s tricky to find, but if you go to the http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/ site, there should be what looks like an advertising banner towards the top of the page that says “click here to watch the first episode online.”

Unfortunately, that’s it so far, and it’s a crappy little streaming video broadcast. Nothing like the quality of a DVR rip like Kaboodle is offering.

From what I had heard, they were going to offer each episode online after it aired in the US, but it hasn’t turned out quite that way.

Actually it is quite possible to destroy all life, and leave all structures intact. Keep in mind that this is supposed to be more advanced than current technology, and this could be achieved more or less with neutron bombs today.

As for Balthar, well he needs to be locked up, but the last episode was intended to be comic relief, and I suspect that he will be questioned again soon regarding his behavior, especially after the president claiming that she “knows for sure” that he is involved with cylons. One could also assume that they are dealing with him as they have no other choices…there are only 50,000 people left, and most are refuges not top scientists. Stress is very high, and breakdowns may not be considered unusual. Society is at a different level/situation than anything we could possibly imagine.

like I said, the cough medicine was making it hard to find

I actually saw that banner (which is really big and obvious) just after I clicked the submit on my question.

(insert sheepish grin smiley).

I sleep now… sneeze!

Must have gone to Nebraska. The one on Picon, that is.

Yes, I can always come up for unusual rationalizations as well. Fact of the matter is, the things were nukes, have been referred to as nukes, blew up Balthar’s house like a nuke, and I’m not willing to defend the show’s consistency errors by suggesting that maybe they didn’t hit that one city with a nuke, blah blah blah.

I appreciate your effort, but I’m not buying it.

I did last week, but it certainly bears repeating. Wonderful pics.

Didn’t say anything of the kind. But when the title of the thread is “Battlestar Galactica 1.9: “Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down” (spoiler spoiler burning bright)”, and mentions the SPECIFIC episode in question, then yes - we should treat information or plot points for after that episode to be spoilers. You want to discuss an episode that’s already aired in the UK? Knock yourself out with a brand new thread. Talking about a future UK episode sans spoilers in this thread is about as kosher as talking about major plot points of a brand new movie sans spoilers in this thread. All it manages to do is ruin it for the rest of us.

Seriously, I hate have to carp on this each week. I’m sure it’s getting annoying, as I see myself slowly turning into the screetching harpy that won’t shut up already. But there is a difference between erring on the side of caution and erring on the side of misuse.

Also, where are all the rotting corpses? Did the cylons bury them all?

Well, neutron bombs are a form of nuclear weapon, just designed to deal less explosive damage and emit a lot more radioactivity. I’m thinking everyone fled that city when the Cylons poured in.

I really enjoyed this episode, and just continue to be impressed with how good the show is turning out to be. I particularly liked the exchange at the begninning when Prez Stands with Fist and Castillo were verbally fencing over who should go first.

And I think the 11 hours for the test is real, since we had the scene where Baltar, alone except for Number Sex, was lamenting about how much time it would take to test all the people in the fleet.

Having said how much I like this, I have to agree that I’m getting a bit tired of the Caprica subplot that seems to be going nowhere. Either tie it into the main plot or drop it. And, I also agree that Baltar’s eratic behavior and the fact that no one questions it is starting to wear kind of thin.

Still, it’s one of my favorite shows right now, and I wouldn’t miss an episode.

It seems to me, based on the past few episodes, that the Cylons are manipulating the humans. They probably know exactly where they are, and could wipe them out at any time, but are herding them in directions (both in space and in their heads) that they want them to go. To what end? Beats me, but I have also had the same kooky notion, expressed in another thread that

we are the decendants of the Cylons

BC: Is that notion based on anything other than speculation?
