Battlestar Galactica 2.20 — "Lay Down Your Burdens, Pt 2" (the spoilers have a plan)

My interpretation is that the resurrection ship could serve either as a respawn point or a relay to send the Cylon instance along to another respawn point. When Cally capped Boomer, the resurrection ship sent the data back to Caprica. But when GinaSix* nuked Cloud Nine and herself, the resurrection ship was already destroyed, so her signal couldn’t reach any respawn points.

[sub]*I’m not convinced the name Gina was actually used on air, but we shall see…[/sub]

Right, Boomer was shot and then reincarnated on Caprica. That was when they were not too far from Kobol, which is still only one jump away from Caprica in a Cyclon raider, and must still be in range for a downloading Cylon. By the time of the Pegasus arc, they must have travelled out of the download range of Caprica and needed the Resurrection Ship (Gina explicitly states that they are too far away to reincarnate anywhere but the Ship). Gina also suggested that they wouldn’t be able to replace it in a hurry. (As someone else pointed out, this was supposedly the reason for the different behaviour of the raiders in “Scar”. It might also be part of the reason that the Cylons decide to stop - or appear to stop - active pursuit of the fleet.) By the time Gina blows herself up at New Caprica, they are ten times further away from Old Caprica than when Boomer downloaded). Gina is permanently in itty bitty pieces, and the other seven Cylons hidden in the fleet (that’s right, innit?) had better make sure they take all their vitamins.

As to the look they give Caprica Six when the nuclear explosion is mentioned - well, they probably knew it was Gina that did it just through regular methods. She may well have been in communication with other Cylons hidden throughout the fleet and they knew what she intended to do. Doesn’t necessarily have to have anything to do with downloading - she probably just told someone. (“Hey, you might wanna steer clear of Cloud Nine on Thursday.”)

Hmmmm… re-reading on preview, I wonder if the above could be true. Just say she did tell one of the other Cylons in the fleet, how would the three Cylons that turn up in Baltar’s office have known about it? Has it ever been established whether Cylons can info-dump to other Cylons when in range?

Lee got a half. But since he’s British I think they score funny or something.

American: I got to third base!
Brit: I dangled a wickett with my bat!

Frakking VHS!!

Okay, so my VCR crapped out during the scene when Baltar was speaking with GinaSix. “No worries,” thought I, “I’ll just record the rest when they show it on Monday.” I would’ve (should’ve!) watched it then, but didn’t want to stay up that late. So, turn on the VCR last night, rewind - yeah, I got nothin’. Frak!

Does anyone know when they’ll reshow the finale? Will they ever? I know what went on, since I’ve read through the thread, but I’d like to see it, if possible. I checked out Sci-Fi, but they don’t seem to be replaying it (at least not through April). Any ideas on where I can get it? Help a lady out, here.

Email me.

Just got to watch this last night - and my DVR recording stopped right after the Cylon told Baltar they had found them by detecting the nuclear detonation. And of course I’ve already missed the repeat. Can someone please tell me what (if anything) happened after that?

Baltar offers a formal surrender on behalf of the colonists; oodles of toasters start marching down the main thoroughfares of the tent city; Tyrol asks Starbuck what they should do now, and she says (IIRC) “Same as we always do - fight until we can’t fight any more.”

Yeah, mine did that too!!

Thankfully, we watched it “live” so we saw the entire ep.

However, if they had ended it at Baltar saying “We surrender” that would have also been a cool ending.

What a little pipsqueak bastard that Baltar is!!!

It seems to me that this Baltar is way more evil than John Colicos was in TOS. Maybe it’s because we see the guy a lot more and can follow just how weaselly he is. Maybe it’s the fact that he appears weaselly rather than power-hungry like his predecessor. Or maybe it’s just that James Callis doesn’t cover up the evil by chewing up the scenery the way Colicos did.

Done and done, friend. I put “SDMB” in the subject line so that it’ll stand out. And thanks!

I think it’s a combination of the current Baltar being a much more complex, interesting character and Callis doing such a phenomenal job with that character.

Balter is a fascinating mix of arrogance, insecurity, genius, and selfishness. One moment he’s sniveling and acting like he’ll fall apart at any moment (like most of his scenes with Six), the next he’s totally calm and in control (like the scene where he nearly killed Tyrol to get information out of Boomer). He’s one of my favorite characters.

I feared they were going to make him side with the cylons and intentionally do bad things after the Pegasus episodes. However, they don’t seem to have gone there. I like it better when Baltar’s bad deeds come purely out of his self centered nature.

That’s the way bullies work; I imagine he will suck up to the Cylons and run a puppet government for them because he will have enough to eat while babies starve.

Can you tell I don’t like the guy?

Not a lot of difference from how things were going before the cylon visit: Baltar had drugs, hookers, a cushy home, and his portrait on the wall; meanwhile, others were living in tents, hording antibiotics, and a labor revolt was in the making.

Yeah, Baltar’s slime. But he is a very interesting character and never dull to watch.

Just returned from vacation and will have to watch the episode. I hope my TiVo got what it was supposed to get!
[list=*][li]The Hair - It’s a known TV fact that when a character returns to their senses/fighting-form/movie-after-the-TV-series/etc that they must have extra hair or a relaxed/hippy outfit. Then they shave the hair or change into uniform to announce to the audience that “they’ve come back!” The moustaches and hairdos will return to normal form, rest assured.[/li][li]Bouys - I suppose having Galactica setup space bouys to alert them to Cylons would kind of defeat the purpose of staying hidden in the Space Cloud[sup]TM[/sup].[/li][li]Colonial Basket - Just because we see the main characters and action in one camp doesn’t mean the colonists are not spread out over the entire habitable band of the planet (unless that’s mentioned in the episode).[/li][li]Extermination - While the Meatbags want some humans around, I just wonder why the occupation doesn’t begin by just rounding up a few humans and killing the rest of them.[/li][li]Models - Sharon has to have some undetectable bio mechanical or nano technology to be able to insert a fiber optic cable in her arm and talk to computers and still register as human. Scar is part machine and part organic, like an intelligent wolf. I assume, without evidence, the Cylon wanted to transend the limitations of the just plain mechanical by incorporating organics. So I wonder if the Toasters have any biologic part too by now? Maybe the humans could capture one and give it independence like the Borg Hugh (ST:TNG). Or maybe they’re just toasters and wouldn’t be much fun at a Halloween party.[/li][li]War Is Hell - You’ll know if Ron Moore is retreading old war movies if the colonists are bussed up to space to work on that hyperspatial bypass and we hear them whistling the Colonel Bogey March.[/li][li]Election - “One Year Later…” - and just think, unlike the U.S. that elects a president every four years, the colonists were just about to elect a new president as Baltar surrenders and the Cylons occupy New Caprica - Adama says, “Drat, so close” and snaps his fingers.[/li][/list]

Baltar’s always been an asshole, but he’s mostly been a lovable asshole. His latest shenanigans though, makes him pretty hard to love. I wonder if they’ll keep him that way, or just when we’re all wishing him a horrible death, he’ll save humanity again.

Who does? It’s a toss-up between him and Logan from 24 as the most useless president ever.

I know TiVo cut off the last minute or so for a lot of people. We solved that problem with several of our shows by setting the TiVo to start recording a minute early and stop two minutes later than the official stop time. That usually does the trick.

Unfortunately, I didn’t keep my tapes of the mini series.
How did Baltar get off Caprica? I remember the Old Woman who couldn’t read her lottery number, and Helo staying behind to make a place for someone else.

Baltar helped the old woman read her winning ticket, and brought her up to the front of the crowd. Helo recognized him as a genius, and gave his place to Baltar.

Good story telling, good character development.
Thanks!
Guess I’ll haunt Ebay some more…
