Say what?
Based on sheer numbers. There is so much happening that it would take a good 5 seasons to explore all of them fully. (This is also a bit of wishful thinking on my part. I want to see BSG- Season 7!)
The shot of the toasters marching down Main Street was a direct ripoff of the Wehrmacht marching down the Champs Elysees. That was the only apparent reason for having the town arranged that way.
The Gaspode, you may be the only one here who didn’t like seeing Starbuck making out. We need *more * of those, dammit!
While I wish that one of the episodes in one of those season wouls show Baltar the Bastard being stoned to death by the humans under the impassive gaze of their Cylon overlords, I don’t think it will happen. He will find some way to come out on top. Perhaps run a puppet government for the Cylons, like the series “V”.
Speaking of “V”, I suppose we will see some plot threads of the evil occupation government and resistance fighters. Were I running the show for the Cylons, I’d round up all the former military people.
oh, I don’t mind her making out at all. It’s just that being so in-yer-face with the commander of the Pegasus isn’t right. She has a long history with Apollo and no reason to act like an asshole towards him.
I re-watched and I’m fairly sure Starbuck (or Katee Sackhoff) is preggers. There was a smull bulge and she was wearing baggy clothes. I know the show didn’t telegraph it, but when her waist is bigger than her boobs, I get suspicious.
Count me in as part of the minority who loved what happened. I’m guessing all the people who absolutely hated what Ron Moore did will tune in anyway in October, just to see what happens.
Wonder if Dualla got promoted (as XO on the Pegasus, maybe?) Also, both Adamas seem to have gotten chunkier “one year later”. I’m surprised Lee didn’t grow a mustache to match his father’s.
Starbuck Tortures a Cylon early in the series, when the cylons land the fist thing hes looking for is HER!!!
dont know if the peasus was fully repaired after the ambush, I see a possible combining of the crews onto Galactica to bring her up to closer to fighting strength.
I think it ended well but I admit I was getting pissed at how much time was being devoted to a “dream sequence” durring the final…still dont know how much I like it but it does add a huge twist to the story line.
The first thing I said at the sight of Adama with the moustache was “Hey, it’s his evil twin!”.
I’m another one who liked it. Yeah, there are unanswered questions, but if they’d been answered, why bother watching in October?
E.
THANK you silenus!!! People, if you’re watching the show just to try to guess when it will “JTS” then you’re watching for the wrong reason!
Good call on Starbuck’s possible pregnancy. I didn’t catch that, but it kinda makes sense. Maybe she decided to leave the military to try to put together a “normal life” on New Caprica…husband, family, etc. Then it, uh, got messed up and stuff.
Liked when Tighe got there he said something like “This is great!” and Starbuck said, “Yeah, that wears off fast”.
I agree that her making out with Anders in front of Lee was a bit much. That scene went on about 30 seconds too long—we get it already!!! But she was drunk; we’ve seen her act stupid when she’s drunk before.
Critical1…dream sequence?? Did I miss something?? (or, did you?
)
Gave the episode some more thought after a night to reflect and still don’t know exactly how to feel about it. I can see the different story lines coming out of this but where Ron will take the show is probably going to be a big suprise. A human resistance against the Cylons would be pointless. You are living in makeshift housing in a near wasteland and fighting an advanced race of machines with total control of the air. You kill a few Cylons, they nuke you from orbit.
With Original Boomer and Six being in the mix, they could play it up as a civil war between the Cylons. Boomer, Chief and wifey will have issues. Boomer is still going to be in love with him while he has a pregnant wife who shot her.
This would actually be a good ending place for the show. The humans have finally been hunted down and forced to surrender. The fleet is near useless with lack of crew and simply runs till destroyed.
Okay, I counted - I’m with the MAJORITY who liked the episode :D. Though it appears those that didn’t like it, really didn’t like it :). Which is fine - I could see why some might have issues.
But I think it is a good way to shake things up, if Ron Moore has a plan and isn’t just winging it. Gaspode is right that season after season of the same cat and mouse would have been hard to drag out in an entertaining fashion. Besides with Pegasus and Galactica still out there, there should be plenty of opportunity for a little cat & mouse shoot 'em up ( which I do like ).
And I don’t think it was too clumsy. Not yet, anyway. You just have to assume a lot has happened and I don’t have a problem filling in blanks in my head until they explain them ( or even if they don’t ). Especially if they don’t in some cases - if they fill in blanks badly, that’ll be more of an issue than if they never address some things. For example I can easily see a disillusioned Gaeta with his hero worship of Baltar, decommisioning to become his chief aide-de-camp. Where is Zarek? Well, maybe we’ll find out. But it doesn’t worry me not to know right away.
Oh and Starbuck was in character - she’s a rude child and always has been. Her giddy, rude, drunken behavior didn’t throw me at all.
One thing though, although I’m sure many got there well before me - I’ve decided I just can’t stand Dee. Starbuck’s got it right on that one.

I liked it; I was just a little disappointed that I was able to predict almost exactly what would happen.

I can’t stand Dee either and never really could. I don’t even know why. What is it about her that bugs you?
There is some sort of…smarminess to her character. She always seems a little smug, with a cat that swallowed the canary sort of vibe. At least when not directly doing her job. A little fake, a little full of herself, a little coldbloodly less than honest.
Dunno - cumlatively she has judst begun to rub me the wrong way. I think it started with her advising Adama while he was painting his model ship ( a scene I hated ) and has slowly spiraled from there.

Day-um, I thought the whole frackin’ thing was great. I almost fell off my chair when Stckwell’s character said “Take me to your leader”. That’s gotta be the funniest line of the year!! Could any other actor play that part better? I don’t think so.
I’m probably real stupid for bringing this up now, as I’m sure it’s been discussed before, but: 12 Colonies…12 Cylon models. Coincidence? Can’t be. I was expecting the Cylons in the end to pull a move like “The Others” and kidnap PopTart and then get the hell out. Is the little hybrid baby the start of the 13th colony?
I loved the Chief’s little Marxist speech. Commies in the Colonies!
You’re not listening.
I don’t have to listen, I’m the president.
So say we all!
Heh. Dean Stockwell (paraphrase) “Well, THIS is awkward…”
LOL.
As far as Starbuck and her hunk and Lee—Starbuck broke off as soon as she saw Lee and ran over for a genuine embrace, then her mind wandered off. I know it looked weird on TV, but I have had half-tanked folks forget I was in the room and start having sex 8-0. I didn’t see it as an in-your-face to Lee, but more of a “damn it was great to see you but my addled mind is focused on someone else at the moment and I’m not wasting neurons keeping up with you or what you are feeling or what this looks like.” YMMV.
Count me another who almost went ballistic on the “One year later…”, but I got over it.
Mainly because life looked crappy.
I spent WAAY too much of my time last week pondering over the situation they were in (vis a vis settling the planet), even minus the politics and the Cylons.
This is probably GQ territory, but what level of technology could 50k people be expected to maintain over time settling an empty planet, with most of their tech unable to land?
I would think best case would be a planet with a large tropical section with lots of fish and beaches. Subsistence existence for the poor souls trapped in ships against their will by circumstance would only require grass huts, fire, canoes, and nets. Meanwhile, the geeks could spend decades/centuries trying to transfer technology to the planet while maintaining the fleet in some sort of way. Even then, I would think the geeks would fail at some point and the colony would lose space travel at the least. This was one of the things I always liked about Firefly—far-flung colonies devolved to subsistence farming and draft animals, and still depended upon tech transfer and support to make it.
Fleet geeks know how to raise food in a high-tech hydro phonic lab—what do they know about plowing and planting on a planet? Does the fleet have draft animals? Tractors? What is the power source? What seeds will grow there? Who can build a power plant? With what?
In a paradise-ideal-climate-ready-food-supply situation I would roll the dice. Being stuck on a ship sucks. In an iffy situation, they are much better off in ships raiding planets for raw materials and maintaining their tech level.
In my opinion, of course 8-).

Nobody has mentioned yet that Ron Moore didn’t go with the cliche many of us thought he might go with.
That is…Using the Nuke to blow up Pegasus.
Now we have two battelstars and it looks like they are here for the indifinite future.
You & I have different ideas about what a reset button is. The last half hour of this episode was one huge reset button. Moore wrote himself lots of plotlines, got lazy, lost inspiration, imagination, and decided “screw it. All those old plotlines bore me.” Reset! One year later.
Now he doesn’t have to worry about all those pesky plotlines from the first two seasons.
Tyrol, Boomer, Cally triangle? Gone.
Animosity between Tigh & Starbuck? Gone.
What happened between Apollo & Starbuck? Gone.
What are the Cylons doing with Caprica? Gone.
Human “farms” on Caprica? Gone.
Cylons preparing to “box” rebel Six & Eight? Gone.
What would have Xena done when she resurrected? Gone.
Helo & Boomer working through their relationship problems? Gone.
Admiral Adama finally gaining the trust & loyalty of a somewhat cantankerous & rebellious Pegasus crew? Gone.
What’s Zarek & the black market up to? Gone.
Map to Earth & the active search for it? Gone.
Budding Adama/Roslyn relationship? Gone.
Maybe all of this would have bored the rest of you to tears, but I was still interested.
And guess what? We’re going to get another reset sometime in season three. How else are they going to get everyone back in uniform and onto the fleet? Hm? Anyone but me feel another contrived reset coming?
I’ve heard lots of bitching about flashbacks. Uh, guys - now we’re going to have a full year of things to flashback to. Constantly. Not to mention the annoying “24 hours earlier” flashbacks.
Gee, most of season three can now take place on a dirt planet. Gosh, where have I seen budget-saving dirt planet sets used way too much? Hm? Any other sci-fi shows come to mind? Anyone? Anyone?
You and I have a different idea about what the word “gone” means.
No way! The reincarnated Sharon who was in love with Tyrol could very well come back now and who knows what would happen?
Could resurface if they were both back on Galactica full time. I thought Starbuck was just happy to see them after a year on dreary, sucky New Caprica and thought she could get medicine through them. Tighe looked pretty taken aback by her warm welcome.
Will likely be addressed in S3. Something really big must have gone down between them to get her to leave the fleet. I highly, highly doubt this is gone.
I’m sure all this could and will be restarted now that the Cylons are in charge.
How do you know these won’t still be conflicts in the next season? Maybe we’ll get to see even more intra-Cylon politics now that they have all the power?
They annoyed the hell out of me, so I’m not missing them much, though I’m 100% sure that Sharon is going to find out about her and Helo’s baby.
Meh.
I’m sure both of these will come up again. Roslyn never wanted to give up the search for Earth, and now that she has been proven right, the start will likely be important again. As for her thing with Adama, as long as both characters are alive, the potential is still there, esp. since she’s not president anymore.
You seem to be making a lot of assumptions about what’s gone that don’t seem remotely supported by anything. Also, not everyone hates flashbacks as much as you do, though that’s not the only way to fill in the blanks.
Hm? Watch and see. Doesn’t require a reset button and I don’t even think everyone necessarily needs to get back on the ship right away, if ever. The show has, in the past, followed multiple storylines in different places; why couldn’t they do that again?
I’m ready to wait and see what happens before I jump to conclusions of what has to happen and that it’s going to automatically suck.
Okay, I recorded the overnight repeat and I’m caught up now.
There’s a lot here to think about. Whether or not this whole giant left turn was a good idea will not be determined until we get into season three and find out if Ron has a plan or if this was a totally random “push over the Jenga tower and see if something interesting happens” move.
There was an item in the end credits: Thanks to the widow of Mario Savio for blessing our excerpt from his speech.
“Reset button” has a very specific meaning in serial television. It’s the artifice that the characters never change, never change situations, no matter how long the show goes on. For example, it’s this that keeps Uhura as the communications officer under Kirk into her doddering 90’s. It comes out of syndication; regardless of what happens during a given episode, everything at the end of the hour will be exactly the same as at the beginning of the hour, so you can sell off the episodes in a big package and run them in any order and ask people to tune in randomly with the confidence that they’ll know what’s going on immediately without any awareness of what happened in the previous episode. What happened in this episode is as far from the classic definition of “reset button” as it’s possible to get.
I have to admit, the sheer chutzpah of this plot twist made me grin like a fiend, but again, I’m going to reserve judgment on whether or not it was a good idea until we see where they’re going with it. Could be a good move; could be a dumb mistake. We don’t know yet: we can’t know yet.
Yes, we do. To me a reset button is something that erases any significant changes suggested in the episide, resulting in everything being nearly the same at the end of the episode as it was at the start. A narrative device used often in TV shows to prevent any significant changes from occurring from episode to episode. A reset button in this case would have resulted in some contrived set of events that left the situation at the end of the episode the same as before - Roslyn president, no settlement on New Caprica, and the entire fleet fleeing from the Cylons and looking for earth. You will note that this did not happen.
