If its the one BBC aired last year, then yes. There are some quirks and not everything works perfectly with the with the minimal budget, but it certainly is a doctor for the 21st century and Eccleston might be the best Doctor yet.
A reminder - this is a show for kids and some effects and monsters are pretty cheesy. For me, that’s part of the charm.
Well, we know she’s at least keeping an eye on Baby Boomer, quietly supervising her rearing. I think it’s a pretty safe assumption she never told Baltar about her, so she still has that ace up her sleeve.
There’s the religious fanatic from Gemenon, the one who gave Roslin such a hard time about the abortion issue and was sent away with her “pound of flesh” at the end. And there was the guard who asked to pray with Roslin while she was in the brig after Adama’s coup; didn’t he also say he was Gemenon?
Plus, it’s been implied in previous episodes that the divisions between the various colonies are at least partially ethnic.
So maybe we’re finally meeting more of the Gemenons, who may’ve been cooped up together, segregated by necessity or by choice in some ship, unseen by us, all this time.
Did anybody else think Roslin was going to kiss her aid when she asked how the baby was? Also how dominant was Caprica in the Union of the Colonies? Did any of the other 11 tribes object to naming it “New Caprica”? And New Caprica City’s population was listed at 39K. How many died when Cloud 9 was destroyed? Are there secondary settlements elsewhere on the planet? From what RDM has said of season 3; Baltar will become the Cylons’ pupper ruler (ala Vichy France). It’ll will be intresting how brutal the human collaborators will become toward their fellow Colonials. And what’ll happen to them in the long run. Of course the big question is how will Adama & co plausibly liberate New Caprica long enough to evacuate people.
Sharon is on Gallactica, right?
Would she sneak a rescue onto New Caprica to get her child back? Perhaps she could stick some coaxial cable up her arm and turn of the radar or whatever.
Plus the Cylons knew where it was. The appeal of New Crapica was that the nearby nebula screwed up the radar thingie so the colony would be nearly impossible to find… unless someone detonated a nuclear bomb or something.
Also, the settlers had to all live near each other because there was only a narrow belt where live was sustainable. They were sitting ducks-- a resistance movement won’t have habitable hills to run to. They’re basically screwed.
That reminds me of something I was going to mention. I’m pretty sure Helo’s Boomer is still on Galactica. It kinda makes sense. Helo was working in CIC next to Adama. Adama for some reason likes keeping Boomer around for advice & information, and he likes keeping Helo close as well, because of his relationship with her. I bet Helo & Boomer still have some sort of relationship going, or at least Helo still hasn’t given up on her. He’s that kind of guy. If they had spaced her, he’d probably be the first one off the ship.
Boomer will probably become even more important to Adama once season three starts.
Why is everyone saying season three starts in October? Is that official? Seems odd that SG1 & SGA would start in July, but not BSG.
They didn’t mention what kind of disaster had befallen Kobol, but Elosha (the priest) did warn that any return to Kobol would enact a price in blood. Given that, and the fact that the Cylons were aware of Kobol’s existence and had already lost a basestar there in S1, the Colonials likely knew that Kobol wasn’t a safe place to stay.
My biggest problem with the settlement idea is, if the people really did intend to settle on the planet permanently, they would likely have dismantled the ships they were on for parts and materials for shelter. It seems a bit unrealistic for them to be able to put everything back together and leave or somehow fit everyone onto the ships still in orbit.
So SG1 & SGA will start in July, then run 'til October. Then go into reruns while BSG starts up. Then BSG will go on hiatus when SG1 & SGA come back from hiatus?
That’s weird, because I thought BSG was bolstering the Stargate shows’ ratings. Why would Sci-Fi Channel mess with them like that? I really look forward to my three favorite shows having new episodes every Friday, dang it.
Truth be told, I have no idea about SG1 and SGA… I haven’t watched SG1 since MacGyver left, and I never got into SGA.
It does seem, however, that they’ve been having some problems getting Battlestar on the air, as evinced by them splitting up season two the way they did (and trying to get us to buy a DVD set with only half the season on it. Grrr.)
Trying and succeeding ;). I was desperate - I missed the first half of season two when it was on air, caught both season one and “2.0” on DVD during the mid-season hiatus.
It’s been particularly fun introducing new people that way - in the past couple of weeks I’ve gotten groans of disgust from two different people after episode ten ended up on that cliffhangar with the Galactica-Pegasus standoff :p.
Oh, I might’ve done the same if I’d missed the first half of season 2. Luckily, I’ve been a fanatic since “33”, (I had to wait a while and only saw the miniseries once I bought the first season on DVD).
As it is, I turned both my father and my girlfriend on to BG, and the only thing that’s kept them from buying those DVD’s is the ability to keep grilling me for information. If I have to answer one more question along the lines of: “Wait… so which Sharon was on Caprica?” ~shakes fist~
Still, as soon as a unified season 2 DVD set comes out, you better believe I’m a buyin’ it.
But still, if they believed the Cylons’ peace offering, Kobol would be just as safe. If they didn’t believe it, even New Caprica wouldn’t really be safe.
Maybe they have, off-camera. We only saw a few grounded ships.
There seemed to be a lot of extra space on the ships we’ve seen. A mass evacuation would take some time, as you say, though.
Makes sense. She wouldn’t be tolerated on the planet, and she’s too central a character to kill anyway.
She seemed to sincerely believe the PopTart got burned. Only Adama, Roslin, and Cottle know otherwise and they’re not going to talk.
Cervaise, I like the Geminons=black notion, except that Zarek is one, right?
A few other ships got it, too. But there are still probably a few thousand people left manning the fleet, and I do think the Adamas have done some things to their military capability in the course of the year.
So how many episodes will it take for Anders’ inevitable but noble “I’m gonna die anyway” kamikaze mission to save the humans, followed by another bout of Starbuck’s grief/drinking/banging every man in sight? I give it 3, tops.
I do hope SciFi Channel gives the Stargate franchise a rest. It’s been worked to death and beyond. At this point I’d even rather watch yet another remake of their standard mutant-monster-attack movie or their standard natural-disaster movie or their standard alien-invasion movie, or even one of their theme marathons of that crap.
