Battlestar Galactica 2.4 — "Resistance" (open spoilers)

Another question…

I missed the episode with the actual physical six (godfrey?) on Galactica. What happened to her? Is she also pregnant?

The Miss Godfrey Six disappeared as quickly as she appeared, and it’s a very good question whether Cylons have the ability to come & go from the fleet anytime they want, or if this Six is somehow managing to hide out in the fleet. Tigh had some marines following her and they reported they turned a corner and she was gone. Hm.

Anyway, it’s my guess that if there’s a pregnant Six, it’s the Six that was on Caprica. In the pilot, the physical Six met with someone just before the attack, but we were never shown who it was. It could have been Six had conceived, and the person she met was her replacement, the Six who would apparently die saving Baltar from the initial bomb blast. Just my own WAG, though.

Actually, that’s what I hated about the original show.

“Oh look, humanity has been nearly wiped out. We’re being relentlessly pursued. But hey, let’s stop at a casino planet! Woo! What will be this week’s deux ex machina that will save us from Basestar of the Week? Static electricity? Okay! Now, where’s the planet of the nymphomaniacs?”

No thanks…

I chanced across it while looking for something else recently.
Did you see the hair? Looks like they washed it every half an hour.
Reflected light better than a cylon.

Heh. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Actually, you’ve summed up my thoughts about the new series precisely. The premise is incredible: escaping total annihilation by a hair’s breadth, and running for your lives. The original, having presented us with this horror, basically tried to pretend it hadn’t actually happened, in order to deliver lightweight action and adventure. The reimagining, on the other hand, has completely embraced this stunning notion and is milking it for all the drama it’s worth. And I think that’s a good thing.

I love this show. I got my wife hooked on it (finally) by showing her the 3hour mni-series. She said, “we can watch it for an hour or so, then go to bed, then watch some more tomorrow.” Three hours later, she was saying how good it was!

Question - At the very end of the mini-series, we discover that Boomer is a Cylon when she walks in to that area where the others are and says, “Don’t worry, we’ll find them.” Then Six says “By your command.” Who was Six talking to? It seemed that she was talking to the BoomerBot, but then she beats the snot out of one later, and claims that the Boomer model was always “one of the weaker models.” Is Boomer the Queen of the Cylons?!!!

I’m pretty disappointed with this whole deal about “<Insert name here> is a Cylon! I can prove it!” I admit that there is much drama and intrigue while we wait for the big reveal, but we seem to love to play the “Who’s a Cylon?” game. Maybe the writers didn’t want us to trust anyone…

My weekly tearing-up moment: when Sharon told Chief with her dying breath, “I love you.” Pain.

I’m always happy when I hear stories like that. I’ve noticed on these boards, you’ll often hear someone come into a scifi thread and say something like, “well, I would watch it, but my spouse doesn’t like scifi, so I can’t.” Argh!

I’ve heard “by your command” one other time. It was when Helo & Boomer were on Caprica getting ready to steal a Cylon ship. There were two Six models talking to each other and I’m pretty sure I heard one say “by your command.” I think Ron Moore uses it like “acknowledged.”

Ditto the thing with the wife. She dislikes SF, and tolerates Fantasy only in her love for BtVS/Angel/Firefly. But since I was always telling her about last night’s episode of BSG, which I would watch after she went to bed, she decided to catch the reruns of 1st Season, and start Season 2 with me. Now she watches every week, fascinated, and can’t wait to see what Moore pulls out of a hat next. It’s the drama that caught her, not the spaceships.

Richard Hatch could always act, it’s just that the original BSG gave him nothing to work with. It was all shiny taosters, mechanical daggetts, and Laurette Spang changing professions every episode.

There are so many reasons I love this show:

Baltar and Tighe - both characters were perfectly cast, are strongly written and superbly acted. My jaw dropped during Baltar’s scene with Tyrol and Boomer. And someone before mentioned being disgusted by Tighe’s actions but feeling sorry for him at the same time. To me, that’s a sign of great writing/casting/acting/directing.

The nods to the original BSG - LOVED loved loved seeing the cheesy “pyramid” game! If you remember the orig, you’ll know that Starbuck (and Apollo) were the best players in the fleet. Their uniforms were very, uh, interesting.

Also, another nice touch I noticed was at the end of the show where Tom Zarek came out to meet Apollo and Ms. President, she looks at Zarek and says “Captain Apollo…” then turns to “our” Apollo to continue. (cuz, remember, Zarek is played by the guy who originally played Apollo and etc. )

Some people are complaining about the “Guess who the Cylon is” but I love it. It’s not a gimmick, it’s a reality the characters are dealing with…after all they are also trying to figure out who is/who isn’t a Cylon.

My money is on Billy for now, and I didn’t even read the spoiler box even tho some people spoiled the spoiler box by commenting on what was in it…

Also keep in mind we don’t know how long the plants have been living with them. You would only need enough of a fake background to get established and then build an actual background for some years.

Oh I don’t know…because they are 8 FOOT TALL KILLER FREAKIN’ ROBOTS? People aren’t uniformly brave or cowardly. Even Starbuck gave Helo a “what the frak” look when Helo told her to break from cover. Only difference is she’s more of a natural warrior.

Besides, Cally has pretty much checked out at this point.

I love it too. Well, “love” may be the wrong word. It’s just eye opening to see how easy it is to fall into total paranoia and second guess everyone’s actions when you suspect there’s an enemy out there but you can’t tell who it is.

It would be a gimmick. It would be the “Who Is A Cylon” show. I bet you guys watch Survivor.

I hope not. She’s one of my favorite supporting characters. Along with Tyrol, Gaeta, Dr. Cottle, Leoben… wow, maybe it would be easier to list who I don’t think is cool.

Oh, and if they were concerned about writing off the Billy character due to an actor conflict, then they shoulda waxed him in that one scene in the second episode, when the Cylons boarded. The show obviously isn’t afraid of a body count, but so far they’ve been shying away from meaningful characters. That would have made an impact.

There’s Cylons on Survivor now? that’s about the only thing that could get me to watch a reality show, having an 8 FOOT TALL KILLER FREAKIN’ ROBOT or two stalking the cast of an insipid “reality” show

just think how much Survivor would be improved by having to deal with a bunch of Killbots, and since they cant throw wave after wave of contestants at them until they reach their pre-set kill limit and shut down, the Zapp Brannigan strategy wouldn’t work…

Bear with me, I’m calibrating my WOM.

Whoosh-oh-meter.

The “by your command” thing is a nod to the original BSG, the cylons use it as a salutation to their basestar leaders(who look like big headed aliens?)plus Baltar and Lucifer.

I just watched the first five episodes last night having never seen it before and honestly for what it is its not bad at all, light hearted sci-fi. One thing though some of the special effects are surprisingly good for its age and being a television show.

Oh and the thing at the end of Lost Plant of the Gods part 2 took me by surprise

Sorry Kitty. I thought about that after I hit the submit button. The only thing I have to say for myself is that these threads are marked “open Spoilers”, and that information is available to the public. But I understand where you’re coming from.

I didn’t say that. The reasoning behind Callie’s actions are pretty clear and understanble to me, both on Kobol and on the Galactica.

Did anyone besides Boomer-Cylon die last week? If not, then the survivor count at the beginning of the show will reflect whether or not she was counted as a human - one less than last week if so. Unless they add the Pyramid Insurgent Squad Starbuck and Helo are with.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t try!!

Err … keep on calibrating.

Three or four civilians on the supply ship that Tigh sent the Marines to.
