Battlestar Galactica 3.9 - "Unfinished Business"

I’m one of them, and count me with those who enjoyed it. The structure was a little clunky and predictable, but the actual scenes were quite good. I especially liked the small personal spark between Adama and Roslin in their quiet scenes together.

One production-related nitpick: I’m always annoyed when there’s a scene between two people in a loud, raucous setting, and the two actors are speaking in hushed tones as if they’re alone in a silent room, which is basically what they were when they were shooting it, but which is no longer appropriate now that the post-production guys have dubbed in the environmental sounds. There’s a scene toward the end of the teaser where Apollo is in the foreground, Starbuck over his shoulder with the ring behind her, separated by a few steps. They’re murmuring intimately to one another, which doesn’t make any sense considering the volume of the crowd around them; they’d never be able to hear each other. Note that Mary McDonnell doesn’t make the same mistake a few minutes later: she raises her voice appropriately when she comes to say hello to Adama. (This used to happen all the time on Buffy, especially during scenes in The Bronze; our heroes will be in the catwalks, whispering their dialogue with yards of space between each other, while the Hot Band of the Week blares directly below them. Uh huh.) I hate seeing scenes shot like this because it takes me out of the story and reminds me that the actors are working on a mostly silent set while the surrounding extras jump up and down noiselessly, miming excitement.

My basic criterion for these shows is whether or not I’ll be excited to show it to the various friends who are just into BSG as I am but who don’t have Sci-Fi and therefore come over to my house in the days and weeks afterward to catch up with the latest installments. This one? They’re going to like it, I think, because they’re all about the characters and the relationships, and not so much the details of continuity. So thumbs up from me.

So she married Anders to escape from Lee, with whom she might actually have to tow the line, do you think?

I think they are in love. I don’t know if they’ll go forward with it. I do think D deserves better than sloppy seconds here, and she’ll leave him even if he doesn’t go.

Did they hook up, or is it more of a platonic thing? I think he went back up to Galactica and she stayed on NC, which is why nothing progressed. I like them together and hope something more comes of it.

So we’re *not * going to see Dualla and Anders have revenge sex?

That’s OK, we know it’s happening. But we’ll just have to imagine what Kandyce McClure looks like topless.

I think she married Anders because Moore thought it would be cool.

Close, but not quite. She married Anders because Katee thought it would be cool.

She liked the actor back when he was supposed to be a throwaway character met on Caprica, so she kept lobbying Moore to bring him back. Leading to the back-to-Caprica rescue and the Starbuck-gets-married storyline.

At least his character has been developed enough now that I’m no longer compelled to refer to him as “Blanders”…

Adama made it clear back when Ellen first showed up she’s bad for him because he’s head over heels for her even when she’s out fraking half the fleet. Ellen made it really clear she’ll do anything for Saul when she prostituted herself to Brother Cavil to get Saul out of lock up.

We knew they were co-dependent alcoholics, and we knew they loved each other more than anything. Well almost anything. The one thing Saul couldn’t overlook was betrayal of the military. When he finally had to choose between the military and his loyalty (let’s just go ahead and say it - love) to Adama Ellen lost.

But we definitely knew they loved each other. What we saw in flashback was just more confirmation they loved each other.

She married Anders because she liked him a lot but didn’t really love him. She can’t handle loving Lee because that means Lee will eventually leave her, whether it’s by dying or maybe something Kara herself does. Their relationship needs to be a brother-sister platonic thing.

No, I don’t think they hooked up. Nor do I think it’s platonic unless by platonic you just mean they haven’t done it yet. Platonic is usually a relationship that isn’t destined to be consummated. These two have eventual consummation written all over them. I refuse to believe they have a brotherly-sisterly thing going on. I know I’d never peck my sister on the lips and snuggle with her under the stars. And Roslyn talking about building a cabin? Hello? I’m surprised Adama didn’t run screaming into the night. That’s a total “I’m picking out our china pattern” conversation.

I don’t think at all the distance between Galactica and NC is what kept them apart. There’s something else. IMHO, of course.

So, do I win a cookie?

Yeah, I didn’t mean they don’t have sexual feelings towards each other, b/c they obviously do, and there’s great chemistry there. I was more wondering if other people thought there was an implied hook up there, or just flirtation.

If you do, I’m pretty sure it’ll be one of those nasty shortbread ones with almost no taste that the Brits all refer to as ‘biscuits’.

I got the impression from their lying together looking up at the sky smoking dope that they had done the deed, but it ceratainly seemed out of character.

Did ya’ll hear the poscast? When Adam tells Apollo “They just got married…you ok? Want a nut?”

Bastards.
You’d think they would appreciate all those lend lease destroyers we gave them during the Big One.

It’s just my opinion but I think sneaking a doob like a couple of teenagers is one thing, but doing it like they do on the Discovery channel is quite another. They both have far too much class for that.

Of those two options? “or what”.

I liked it.

They have too much class to kiss, or make some overt sign of romantic feelings towards each other? Sometimes on this show, they don’t actually SHOW things, like people hooking up; they just show the aftermath. Was wondering if this might be one of those cases. Not expecting to see jungle love ala the Discovery Channel, don’t know why you’d think I was.

Adama’s kissed Roslin onscreen before. Yep, they played that scene like afterplay, not foreplay.

So I guess we can figure Adama and Roslyn did hook up, it was disappointing and that’s why their relationship cooled. They really do prefer a brother-sister relationship because they both stink in the sack.

Now Adama and Roslyn will never hook up and we should stop speculating about it. It’s never gonna happen. They’re just friends.

Yep, just like Riker and Troi. Or maybe Jerry and Elaine.

Man, this show is starting to really piss me off. Humanity is barely hanging on by a thread, Cylons could show up at any time and launch an assault, and you let your best pilots beat each other’s brains in, to the point where they’re bleeding from their ears. This isn’t a military vessel, it’s a damned psych ward. I just don’t buy any sort of “stress relief” that involves reducing the combat readiness of the fleet by that much.

And…I don’t care who did what to whom back on New Caprica. I’m starting to miss the old Battlestar Galactica where at least something happened every week.

Put me in the “suckiest episode in suck town” group.

I’m in the Adama and Rosilyn did the deed crowd. Looked like basking in the afterglow vibes to me.

“The Dance” was worth doing. Major morale builder for the troops, and Adama gets to deliver an object lesson. The makeup crew went a little overboard. Those gloves looked a little big to be doing that kind of damage. Lee wasn’t actually bleeding from his ear…it looked more like his earlobe got mangled a bit.

This episode had a lot of great moments. Saul drinking from his hip flask while refereeing the bouts. Doc Cottle not only approving of “the dance”, but really enjoying it. I could swear that I saw Adama checking out Roslyn’s ass during one of the matches. The look on Tyrol’s face the first time Adama knocks him down. Naked Starbuck having an orgasm. Tyrol looking so very hung over when Adama tells him that he and Cally can move to New Caprica. The way Lee and Starbuck chuckle at the stupid joke “She packed it in… to go pack.”. And many, many more.
