BBQ US political threads

I pit them. Honestly, they clog things up here.

Sorry, give us a few months and we’ll be all right.

We’re coming up to a tremendously important election, and those of us who are endlessly frustrated with the current administration feel compelled to fight against it whenever possible.

Plus, the internet gives us the opportunity to debate this stuff all over the country (and yes, the world). Want to experience frustration? Try finding someone in North Texas who doesn’t have his head lodged up his ass that you can discuss politics with. I have no hope of helping change the outcome of the election here.

However, if enough people from Iowa read what I have to say… who knows.

OK Slacker, understood. But for the love of fucking christ, do it it in GD, this place is for you to shit your load on your favourite cunting wank stain. Take political discourse to a suitable arena.

Political discourse without shitting loads on our favourite cunting wank stains is like chocolate without peanut butter.

I don’t understand, can you give me an analogy?

It is not possible sometimes to express political opinions in Great Debates, even when that forum is moderated forgivingly. You’re not just a Republican; you’re an idiot. You’re not just a Democrat; you’re a pussy. You’re not just a Naderite; you’re the fucking spawn of hell who is costing Kerry his victory. You’re not just a Libertarian; you’re a thinking man whose eagle-eyed vision of political issues is inspirational and compelling. These are things that cannot be said in Great Debates.

Making shit up isn’t against the rules, is it?

Are you kidding? Can you IMAGINE the threads that will be started if Bush wins?

As to the OP, I here ya. It’s getting ridiculous. But not nearly as ridiculous as the threads openned in GD, like this one.

Hint: If you start your OP off with “Not sure if this is a deabte…” then IT PROBABLY ISN’T ONE!!! Go clog up MPSIMS…

I’m just waiting for: Did Kerry get a haircut today? Did Bush miss a nose hair when he last got a trim?

My God, they’re spreading like the plague in GD.

Here and here in just the last few minutes.

Heh, try rural SE Texas. The ratio of fundamentalist churches to convenience stores is probably about 10:1.

But isn’t this one?

This is different. This thread is clogging things up for justice!

Lib, dear, sweetie, we know that YOU post in the pit because you like calling us other, more stupid, people names. Most of US, however, post in here because we want to call the CANDIDATE names.

I don’t know why but this had me busting a gut. Too funny. I hope I’m correct in seeing a touch of self-deprecation along with the irony.

Hear, hear.

Incidentally, Lib, I was wondering if you’d be willing to have a conversation via email about the finer points of Libertarian values and beliefs. I have long billed myself as a civil libertarian, and have a fairly solid set of sociopolitical philosophies that I hold to be true. What I’ve been unable to ascertain is exactly how (and if) those beliefs coincide with Libertarianism (capital L). From what I’ve seen of your posts on these boards, you have a very solid grasp of Libertarian principles, and I find myself agreeing with you far more often than not. As such, I’d like the opportunity to ask you a few questions. Your email address is not included in your profile, so if you’re interested, please email me at RolandOrzabal “at” cox.net. Thanks.

Now, to the OP: I too grow tired of the endless mudslinging and irrelevant discourse that’s been flying around everywhere, but it’s a necessary (if unfortunate) side effect of any national election, especially one as hotly contested as this year’s. People with strong opinions are going to express them, especially in fora such as GD and The Pit, which are geared for intelligent debate and inflammatory bitching (respectively). Personally, my contempt for Bush knows little in the way of bounds, but I leave the debatin’ and bitchin’ to those with more dogs in the fight than I. Anything I would have to say has been said before, and will be said again, both more and less eloquent, and more and less effective than if I had said it myself. Because of this, I figure that when it comes to the SDMB, the message is out there. There’s no need for me to pitch in my two cents.

If more people took that route, things would be a lot quieter around here. Whether or not that would be a good thing is up to each individual to determine. Having examined what evidence is available to me, and using my own powers of reasoning, I’ve made up my mind as to the correct course of action this November. As such, I avoid most of the political threads like the plague, choosing instead to dwell in the softer side of things. I like my debates nice and abstract, where one can debate philosophy and ethics/morality without a whole lot of practicality-based B.S. to muddle things up. That’s why I hang out in the Pit.

I suppose what I’m essentially saying here is that when it comes to political threads, I hate 'em too, but hey…whaddyagonna do?

We rule the world and are the most important thing in it.
Now shut your mouth and enjoy the ride foreign boy.
YEEEE HAW!

Maybe it’s time for another forum specifically called Political Debate? No-holds barred pit-style raving and foaming at the mouth?

It’d be nice to get the politics out of the Pit - into their own separate Pit.

You are indeed.

Done.

Hint to investors. Do NOT invest in any company that backs life insurance for hamsters.

Bush/Cheney 2004.

Oh, yeah, babe! BAM!
