I would have to agree with herbs and gt about the watermelon. It’s worth eating out on the deck (so’s I can spit the seeds over the rail) to get the ones that taste good.
It’s a short work day, but a fun packed weekend ahead. Yay!
A warm glass of milk before you lay your head down should do it.
I don’t know what I’m going to smoke over the weekend yet, will just wait to see what looks best when I get to the store but I do like the idea of combining it with watermelon. I’d better leave work early so I can get to ther HEB before everything is picked over. We’ll just file this one under crisis avoidance.
I have gone most of the week forgetting what the OP asked! LOL I have had various brushes with wild critters over the years, but the one that sticks in my mind happened about 6-7 years ago in the early morning as I was waiting at the bus stop. I used to live at a place that bordered a wooded area, even though the surrounding neighborhood was quite urban, so I’d seen possums and raccoons, but this morning as the bus was pulling up to the stop, a ** red fox** darted across the street, right in front of the bus and right past me. It startled me, and as I got onto the bus, I realized that several passengers had also seen the fox, because they were shaking their heads, with their mouths a-gape. Someone muttered, “brazen fox!” which I silently agreed with, especially considering how close the fox came to me!
Gee, I think I’m just about ready for some more watermelon. Enjoy your FIRDAY all!
Ya know, when you say you are going to smoke over the weekend
grill isn’t the first thing that comes to my mind.
I remember once when I was over my cousins she was telling me she was going to get her dog buzzed over the weekend. I told her that was cruel and people shouldn’t do that to animals. She couldn’t understand why it was cruel to give her dog a buzz. After all her dog liked getting a buzz, it made her feel better.
Right about the time I realized she was talking about a haircut, she realized I wasn’t.
In case anyone is wondering, I just took a lemon meringue pie out of the oven.
I ran to Food Lion for a few things, but the produce was really sad looking. The cucumbers were small and almost shriveled, the radishes looked old and very unappetizing - all I got in that dept was a small bunch of bananas. On the way home, I stopped and got 6 quarts of picked-this-morning strawberries. Jammin’ ahead! I may make a strawberry pie, too, since I only need 4 quarts of berries for the 2 batches of jam.
We finally got FCD’s laptop talking to the printer - turns out the problem was in the router. I updated the software and it’s working like a champ. Yay!
I need to get the laundry in - I’ll take hangers out with me so I can fold or hang as needed as I go along. I are SMRT!
**sari **- I had the same reaction to lieu’s post, and it confused me because I’ve met him and he’s a nice, wholesome, law-abiding citizen. I almost swooned at the thought of him partaking of the devil’s weed!!!
Ew! I don’t even want to think about that, lieu. Good grief.
As for smoking, I’m going to get up bright and early on Sunday morning, and fire up the smoker. I’ll be smoking two spatchcocked chickens, a turkey, a pork loin, and a small beef brisket, that I’ll turn into pastrami.
Yeah. We’re having people over, and more than I had expected. There will be potato salad, corn on the cob, baked beans, strawberry trifle, and whatever anyone else decides to bring. Oh, and assorted sodas, beerverages, and iced tea.
All this talk of strawberries.
I wish I liked them because they sound good.
I know they smell good.
I feel like I get left out on a lot of good desserts because I don’t like strawberries.
I like watermelon.
If I eat too much of it though I get a horrible stomach ache.
Slaw has been made and the baked beans have been put together for bakeage tomorrow. Go Me! OYKW grilled “taco burgers” and we had ‘em with some slaw. Made for a pretty good dindin. DQ ice cream cake for dessert tomorrow as there’s also a birthday celebration happenin’. The wild twins are turnin’ the big 54! They’re fun. They’re twin sisters. JDD and Partner are bringin’ the cake and Jell-O[sup]TM[/sup] shooters. Others are bringin’ various munchie stuff and/or beverages/beerverages. Couple folks say they want frozen margaritas and I told 'em to bring all the ingredients and go for it. I don’t like frozen margaritas. Matter of fact, I’m not real fond of frozen beverages in general.
Oh! I had a dip in the cee-mint pond. Water’s a bit chilly but nice!
Supper is cooking - poke strips-n-vidalias in Sweet BBQ sauce, roasted Brussels sprouts, twice baked N.O.T., and lemon meringue pie for dessert. Yum!
Laundry is done and put away. **FCD **is showered after his paint time. Higgs has been fed, and we’re just waiting for everything to be done. I’s hongree!!!
I haven’t had a good galavant in a long time. Takes me back.
I have no idea what those are. I tried to google and got another MMP. So I’m reduced to lurking for context.
The boy has taken all of the siding off of the west side of the house. That was three dump runs in his pickup. (It’s a small pickup.) Only found a couple of things that probably need fixing before we put the new siding on.
The oddest thing we found was that the toilet paper holder had been attached to the siding. We’ve been roughing it with the TP balanced on the sink and a piece of paper taped over the TP holder hole. The neighbors are only a driveway width away so we really need to have that hole covered.
Oh, and he took out the old windows. He used house wrap to cover those holes.
We have nearly all the materials bought for the big siding adventure this weekend. That includes the food to feed all of the helpful family. And the beer and soda. There will be runs to the hardware store for things that we discover a need for, but that always happens. Adventure awaits.
The marthandables are mentioned in the Patrick O’Brien novels.
It is an imaginary disease invented by a snake oil quack in early nineteenth century England.
