Does anyone on here think they could beat her in the octagon?
I’m thinking you can’t.
Does anyone on here think they could beat her in the octagon?
I’m thinking you can’t.
So?
I could if I wanted to, but I don’t feel like it.
I assume you’re including men in this. If so:
She weighs 135, according to wiki, and I’ve always thought that they have weight classes for a reason. The best 135-pounder in the world will lose to a world class 150-pounder, and to a very good 170-pounder, and to a pretty good 200-pounder, and to a competent 230-pounder. Not every time, but that’s the way I’d bet.
Note that I’m not saying she couldn’t kick the ass of most guys who weigh 230, since most guys who weigh 230 are probably obese, but by “competent,” I mean a trained fighter in good shape, but nowhere near world class.
I was talking about people who post here.
Assuming I could stay away from her arm bar I feel I could probably beat her.
Nooooo. I’m a woman but I’m more than 2x her weight and only 2 inches on her.
She’s one of the best female judoka in the world too so she knows how to take people down and make their size work against them. That’s a skill besides her unrelenting desire to beat the snot out of her opponents.
I’ll pass
That depends. How am I armed?
The thing about MMA fighters is they practice it every day for a living. I might know a few moves but she knows all the counter moves plus a hundred more I’ve never even heard of. She’s apparently good at armbars. Unless I could quit my job for six months to train, I’d throw the first punch, there would be a blur and I’d be on the ground in an armbar thinking ‘how the heck…’
Really, what you’re asking is, ‘has anyone here been training in all the MMA moves for 10 hours a day for the past few years?’ or ‘are there any Andre The Giants here?’ because that’s the two types of people that stand a chance.
Statistically, there are bound to be competent 230-pounders among Dopers. I was one myself, 30 years ago. But also statistically, the people most likely to be able to beat her are not going to be reading this on a Saturday night.
I estimate it would take Ronda Rousey less than 10 seconds to beat me.
Most of that would be her crossing the Octagon.
However I could certainly beat her at chess.
I’d like to see an answer to the very pertinent question raised in post #2.
There’s some crude double entendre to be made here but damned if I see it.
“I’d punch her right in the octagon!”
Reading the question, I was first surprised that someone gave theirs a first and last name, then even more surprised that they wanted to discuss it.
The new “Yes means Yes” doctrine is quite specific.
Q: What makes you think she even likes spanking?
…other than that, the “Don King” mousse is over in aisle 5…
Anyone well trained and significantly larger than her has a good chance. We could find many people larger then her here on the Dope, but they will tend to be men and Rhonda isn’t interested in mixed gender matches. So we’re looking for looking for a female Doper well versed in at least one martial art, or any Doper pretending to be one on the internet.
So the question is essentially could Rousey defeat your average, non-trained male specimen. You can give the weight advantage to the male and we’ll throw in that he’s in good to excellent physical shape.
My prediction is that Rousey hands his ass to him six ways to Tuesday. I’d venture that that in the style of old carney huckstering, unless the guy has had some formal training, Rousey could take on and defeat all comers. Now that I think of it, in the Rolling Stone article from a few months ago, while in high school, Rousey would indeed challenge any male, place a side wager with the winner taking the cash and Rousey coming out on top every time.
Of the videos out there of a trained fighter squaring off against a larger (untrained) opponent, I’ll offer up this one
Specifics: just under 8 minutes and is a bit but not terribly dated. It features a world-class 150 pound jiu jitsu fighter squaring off against a 250 pound body builder. It takes place in a gym in front of a crowd with a referee who provides the narration for the video and points out some of the techniques on display. For those who think that a weight advantage makes all of the difference, I submit you are gravely mistaken.
Well, back in the day… nope.
Does anyone think that?
