I have all kinds of good vibes to spare so I’ll send them your way!!!
There ya go!
One of the many reasons for my good vibes today: just got a message from my dog trainer. She's offering me a free reactive dog with agility round of classes starting next week! Sweet! Either she wants jewelry in exchange or she needs to fill out a class. Either way I hope I can work out the transportation issue!
But that’s mostly because I like having the father of Protestant theology tell me “frigate”.
This year again it conflicts with OutRageous Bingo so I’m going drinking until 5 or so and then switching over to that. I worked well last year - no reason to expect it can’t work again.
Getting excited for NaNoWriMo. Have to resist the temptation to research and not write. Paid my bills and I don’t owe that much to my parents OR Visa. Should be able to get both of those paid off soon, as long as I don’t spend too much money.
All those cold and powerless are invited to my place. It’s going to hit 90 today and we can all lounge by the pool till you’re defrosted and then gloriously toastified. There’ll be butterscotch, white chocolate, cashew cookies or margaritas-- take your pick.
The talk of snow and power outages just seems surreal. The a/c is working full blast here; it simply cannot be so cold only half way across the country. Everybody stay as safe as you can. Congo– none of that car sledding game I saw you were planning!
So, have I mentioned that I have three dogs and that I’m allergic to dogs? Since Bub has been sick he’s been right by my side all the time lately* which I do not mind at all*. However, all this togetherness has made my allergies kick into high gear. My homework is not done yet, but it’s getting there. But for now I’m going to take a Bendaryl and head to bed for a nap.
Navy bean soup is simmering away - we’ll be eating in 40 minutes or so. And we’ve closed the front blinds/curtains already. We’re not giving out treats, and we want to make that as obvious as possible.
I just sent off an email to OPM to find out how much longer it’ll take for my annuity to get straightened out. It’s been 3 freekin’ months, fercryinoutloud!!! I have this mental image of an elderly accountant in an eyeshade perched on a stool Bob-Cratchit style with a pencil and a big ledger calculating what I’m owed for 37 years of federal service. Goodness knows, we can’t expect them to be using computers or anything…
Ugh, I don’t feel like doing work. I’m back in that I’m-only-here-when-I-don’t-feel-like-working thing.
I finally decided to see an orthopedic surgeon about the Evil Spot on my shoulder. I’ve been doing PT since July to no avail. The doc got all excited about how interesting it was and that “you read about these things but don’t actually see them!” Gee, thanks. I’m glad I’m so special. So, apparently my shoulder blade isn’t sticking out because I haven’t been doing the exercises well enough, it’s being pushed out by an inflamed bursa. (I don’t know why that’s exciting since bursitis is relatively common… maybe the location? I’m still not entirely clear.) She sent me for an MRI Friday night (Did you know you can spend your Friday night getting scanned??), and the results should have been at the doctor in 24-48 hours, but I can’t get an appointment until Friday. Oh well. At least it sounds like there is an answer and that they should be able to make it better. I’m so excited about being able to stop the ineffective PT exercises!
And we decided over the weekend to spend our anniversary (5 years!) in San Diego. That’ll be great. Sunny, warm, and away from here for a few days. Perfect!
I came home from work at noon because I wasn’t feeling very well. I had a headache, and a belly ache, and I couldn’t stay awake. I scared myself on the drive home because I was so sleepy. I actually nodded off for a fraction of a second!
So I took a nap, and some aspirin and a carbonated beverage. I’ve never had a Squirt before! Weird flavor. Anyway, I feel much better.
So dinner will be boiled peel and eat shrimp, and salmon patties. Easy peasy.
Charlie has figured out the doggie door already! He’s smart, then. That’s good. They are all a bit grumbly towards each other, but not aggressive or anything. We brought his doggie bed with us. He’s settling in just fine.
I’m sorry you’re not feeling well,** rebo.** That’s a cute little addition to the family.
I stayed home because I woke up with the most horrible toothache I have ever had. Then because of the toothache, I also got a headache. About two hours ago, part of one of my back teeth fell out. It must have been cracked or something.
Can’t afford a root canal or crown at the moment. It’s just going to have to wait.
Stuffded full of bean soup - doggone, it was good! Daughter stopped by to pick up the afghan I made for her friend’s new bebeh. We’re in hide mode till bedtime.
Chimney guy just left and I’m very much not looking forward to Sweetie coming home because I’ll have to explain the required work estimate.
Sometimes living in an older home (60 or so years) with one previous owner (who was elderly and alone) really sucks balls.
It seems that the fireplace flue is in fairly decent condition but the floor of the firebox needs to be replaced, as does one of the tiles up top. There’s some kind of seal that’s supposed to be applied above the damper and that has never been done. Unfortunately, when we were told 2 years ago that the chimney needs to be cleaned every year, what we should have been told is that it needs to be cleaned every 2-3 cords. We thought we missed 1 cleaning. We missed about 7.
The grill flue is in ok condition with just a few spots that need repair on the roof.
The big problem is the furnace flue. Apparently it hadn’t been cleaned in YEARS. It was so dirty that his huge shop vac was filled to the top and he had a very hard time getting it up the stairs. In addition, the liner is in horrible condition - bad enough that I had to sign off saying that he told me we’re living in unsafe conditions. His suggestion was that until we can afford to fix it, we should buy a bunch of CO detectors and install them all around the chimney from the basement up to the ceiling (3 floors, including the loft).
We need a cap - a full size one to fit all 3 flues. We also need to seal the entire outside part of the chimney and have something else done because apparently there’s moss growing all over the thing.
Unfortunately, everything he listed is a pretty big problem and really needs to be dealt with.
We’re looking at about $4500 - $5000 to fix it all. Considering that we still have to pay a $1600 car repair bill, fix the jeep, buy oil (and we just spent $400 on wood and $400 on a chimney cleaning) - there’s no chance in hell we’re going to be able to pay for this. Half of that is the furnace flue repair. We just don’t have the money.
My good day has suddenly started to suck and I just want the financial blows to stop. Every time we start to get ahead, something else kicks us in the teeth.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 43 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 73. Nice but dry. Cooler drier weather makes my skin dry, especially knuckles, elbows and knees. So, yay for moistureizers!
shortdrum and rosie house repair stuff is indeed sucky. Sometimes it’s like the more you do all the more needs to be done. All us mumper homeowners empathize with ya.
Now I shall seek out more caffiene and brekkie for rumbly tummy. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence.
