Most of the ‘usual suspects’ (by which one would presume the supposed SDMB right wingers) aren’t even posting in this thread…a key factoid you failed to grasp before you waded in. Lemur866’s point of course is that gonzo is an equal opportunity slam…he has managed to annoy not only the minuscule ‘tighty righty’ faction on this board but centrist and even left wing posters.
In fact, his only defenders seem to be you (who is ‘defending’ him in such a back handed and silly fashion that it’s hard to take you seriously…hell, you freaking ADMITTED you don’t even read his posts and it’s clear you are clueless about him except in the most general of terms) and Hentor (who is really here to slam me and to nit pick…his usual modus operendi). Well, I participated in the ‘faggy’ thread and I certainly didn’t come away from it with a new found respect or understanding of gonzo. And it certainly factored into my general opinion of him being about as stupid as it’s possible to be and still be alive. But I gave my reasons for THIS pitting in the OP.
Yeah…I do say ‘ehe’ in real life, since I got odd looks when I would say ‘no?’ all the time. I picked it up when I lived in New England…I’d say I’m sorry it annoys you but seriously, it really doesn’t bother me that it does.

No, he’s being criticized here for being stupid. By someone who is pretty stupid himself. My first intention was to call out xtisme for this hypocrisy. My second motivation was, well, pretty much along the lines of what elucidator said. I think, for example, that if there was a thread with a bunch of people attacking xtisme for no specific reason, but some general complaint that he was stupid, I’d probably behave the same way. Maybe I’d just look the other way. I don’t know.
So, again, do you think gonzomax will change because you and a bunch of other people called him stupid? You haven’t really given him much in the way of specifics to address. Okay, he can cite more stuff, and argue better. But by and large the message seems to be “Your stupid! Go away.” So yeah, I’ll take a few minutes to stand in between you and him.

He doesn’t converse. There’s no exchange of ideas. No point/counterpoint. He just digs in and keeps repeating the same thing.
If you look in the linked thread, he basically says “You gun lovers can’t handle when someone exposes the truth so you cry bias!” about 20 times in a row despite people fleshing out their ideas and attempting to explain to him their perspective. He doesn’t care, he’s off in his own little world.
Well, that’s fine. But the problem then is that you won’t believe me when I explain why he got picked on for 8 pages by a bunch of liberals. Not because he used anti-gay slurs, but because he couldn’t understand why anyone would be annoyed by being called faggy, and he refused to stop using the term even though plenty of people patiently explained why he was annoying.
And that’s the trouble. It’s not that gonzo’s dumb, as Miller said there are plenty of dumb people in the world and there’s nothing wrong with them. It’s that gonzo refused to consider that if 20 people think “faggy” is offensive, maybe they’re right and he’s wrong.
There are plenty of smart people with the same problem, and they’re assholes too. Take a look at the various threads where ostensibly smart people defend torture and such. Gonzo’s problem isn’t that he’s dumb, it’s that he’s a jerk and he exhibits a weird mental inflexibility and inability to care what other human beings say.
I don’t for a second believe that you or elucidator would be in here standing between the mob and the OP. Neither of you are defending gonzomax because he’s an idiot and it can’t be helped, or because of some nebulous unfairness. While I find that he is actually a worse writer than I am (no small feat there), this particular pitting really has nothing to do with his lack of sentence structure, bad syntax, spelling errors or even his drive by links…though I have to admit that the latter does tend to be fairly annoying. He isn’t stupid because he can’t write…I’m measuring his stupidity level based on the content and direction of his posts, on his failure to engage in any debate in even a token fashion.
