I cut up a steak and put it in a pan with some crushed garlic and salt and pepper. When it was about done, I squirted a nice healthy dose of Sriracha ‘rooster sauce’ on it. Rolled it up in a couple of low-carb tortillas with shredded cheddar cheese.
I always open these threads just when I’m starting to get really hungry and thinking, “is it lunch yet”? Unfortunately, salad is on the menu, not steak…
You’re eating steak for breakfast, and using lo-carb tortillas? Come on, fella.
An overlooked “home meal” for a lot of people is steak and eggs. There’s something excellent about firing up the old grill on a Sunday morning and cooking a fat steak to chow down with a few eggs, just the way I like them.
Add a beer to the meal (along with coffee) and you’ve got a winner.
Steak is low-carb. As for the eggs, I’ve run out. Besides, I think I’ve gone through three doezen eggs in the last month or so. This, from a guy who hardly ever eats eggs. I’m tired of eggs.
I made the beef the same way last night, except I put it on a lettuce salad with ‘lite’ blue cheese dressing and ommitted the cheddar.
I worked on a farm that raised Certified Black Angus. Wow do I miss picking out my own steer and taking him to the butchers. Go back a few days later and pick up a enough tasty dead cow to fill a freezer and last for months.
FYI- Lo-carb tortillas have come a long, long way. They are actually quite good- especially the Mission and Carb Chopper brands. Personally, they taste just like the real tortillas and I think they would go just fine with steak.
Steak (medium) w/sauteed onions & mushroom & 2 eggs over easy, side of hash browns (grits if in VA or farther south) toast and coffee. The REAL breakfast of champions. Last month I had that except I upgraded my steak to buffalo. I didn’t need to eat until late that evening.
Last night we had us some black beans fried up with onions and spices and garlic and lime juice, served over corn tortillas and fried eggs, and topped with salsa and sharp cheddar. It was almost like a breakfast burrito, only it was dinner. And there was nothing low-carb in it, except for the things that came by their lowcarbbiness naturally.
Here in Europe, the REAL breakfast of champions is a pot of strong black coffee and a pack of Gauloises (filterless). If you’re feeling especially manly, you can have some Ouzo or Arrak as dessert. That’ll put hairs on your chest faster than steak and hash browns.
Ah, you’re my kind of bloke, Mycroft! Breakfast today has been a pot of strong black coffee and Marlboros. (Gauloises are not carried widely here, nor are Gitanes. Much easier to get when I was in L.A.)
