Heh. I went through a snake phase when I was younger. I begged my mom to let me keep one as a pet. She was not very encouraging.
Thanks Posit!
Roo, I think I can manage the Snoopy dancing!
SCL, thoughts and prayers for Libby.
Drae, congrats on the job!
QueenB, home-made pizza - YUMMMMMMMMM
taxi, glad to hear you are safe. When I read about the bridge collapse in the online news this morning, the first thing I thought was, “I hope all the MinneDopers are okay.”
Haze, good luck with sorting out the salary - that sucks!
Well it’s Thursday and the weekend (Friday-Saturday here) is shaping up to be very boring indeed. Hubby has to go to Dubai for work (leaving this evening and coming back Saturday evening) and my two closest friends are also out of the country - one still on hols in Hong Kong (on the way home from Australia) and the other off to Cairo for a long weekend. Boohoo! So, I will be having a truly exciting weekend doing what I do every other day of the week - caring for HRH! Not that I don’t love her and love looking after her, but a little time off would be nice, ya know? Especially after HRH decided to wake up at 5am again this morning. It’s weird how when I put her to bed earlier (like 6pm) she will sleep through till 6am or later, but if she goes to bed any later than 6:30pm, she usually wakes up earlier! Please Explain?
I am so maxed out on time with MIL right now, I think I am going crazy. Visiting on Tuesday afternoon, then she decided to “stop by” yesterday morning (fortunately HRH was about 10 minutes away from having her mid-morning nap, so the visit was blessedly brief), and now hubby wants to go for lunch again today! Gah! Make it stop!!! :smack:
Okay, off to bed Madam down for a nap.
Y’all miss me?
I came home last night, got cleaned up and went to bed cause I had to do an 11:00 A.M. til 11:00 P.M. shift today…errr… that would be yesterday for me now. Loooooooooooooong day! Half of a pallet of empty Lite cans fell over 45 minutes before shift end. Several of us rose to the occasion, however, and got it all cleaned up in about 30 minutes. I’ve shovled a lot of stuff in my life, but until now, I’d never shovled cans. I shall add that to my list of skills. BTW that would be 750 cans, approximately.
Drae yay on the job!!! Ain’t employment grand!
Doggio no olives for the martinis! How awful! Everybody knows martinis are the adult beverage with its own snack.
Everybody else, yay, boo, congrats, I’m sorry, as appropriate. I read through everything but I know I missed stuff.
Ok, I foresee a beerverage or two and beddy bye in my near future.
See y’all later today!
I missed that–but measurements would be good, because I’m not the best at improvising. Thanks! It sounds like good potluck food.
taxi, I’m glad you and KeithT are okay. That’s really scary!
Queen Bruin, I think your nephew would fit in just fine around here. He sounds like a Cool Kid[sup]TM[/sup]. That beer better be a Miller–if it’s not, we’re going to be dealing with an angry bear!
Haze, do you have a contract or anything in writing about how much you’re supposed to get paid? I can understand being paid less for an independent study, but half of minimum wage is ridiculous. It’s crazy when you think about how much students have to pay to take classes–how can they justify paying you so little? Especially when you have to start work at 8.
Heffandroo, that snake would have creeped me right out. I don’t mind snakes, but there are some places they just shouldn’t be. When I was a kid, we lived in the country, and we had some unpleasant snake encounters. One time we found a snake draped around the porch light–no idea how it crawled up the wall and wrapped itself around the light, and it was a bit tricky getting it down from there. Another time, a snake got into the attic, and sometimes we could hear it crawling around, making these really horrible scraping noises. It was like something out of a horror movie. We knew it was a snake, but it was still very ooky. Just thinking about that makes me do a Sideshow Bob shudder. Euugghhh!
You DON’T KNOW that song? Where have you been??? Listen to it NOW! And if that doesn’t work, I will start singing Apeman instead!
Okay, so how about something more like bedtime music?
[singing] Rock-a-bye baby, in the treetops, when the wind blows the cradle will rock … [/singing]
Whaddaya mean, you’re not asleep yet? It always works for Noor!
I need to increase my repertoire!
Okay (:waves at Roo: ), sweet dreams sweetie!
I think you mean this link ![]()
I definitely don’t remember signing anything that said anything about getting paid half minimum wage to teach a class. I mean, for Christ’s sake, these are college classes. I could understand getting paid tutoring rates for an independent study. $10/hr would be the lowest I could conceive of (part-time community college instructors get paid a minimum of $20/hr, not including prep time).
I’ve checked around the Internet, and I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to pay less than minimum wage, which is $7.50 an hour in Illinois, I think. I’m going to check with the school tomorrow and raise all hell unless I get some answers. Thanks for letting me rant, MMPers.
In all my anger I forgot to say hi and congrats on the new job to Drae. We miss you - come back soon!
PS - I don’t like olives in my martini. Does that make me weird?
Rosie, that is freakin’ hilarious! After that, you can count me on your side when the final battle with LOUNE looms!
:o I’m sorry I messed that up.
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY BOBBIO!
I haven’t had a chance to get through the rest of the pages yet, but I wanted to say that right away.
Also, the ad hoc was jacked up because the author had to remove PHI info from it due to the fact that contractors had access to it. The author didn’t realize my office (we’re not contractors) was using it for a myriad of reports.
Off to read the rest of the thread so I can commiserate, congratulate, etc.
Alrighty then, sorry for the double post, but I just finished reading through the rest of the pages.
Taxi, I’m so glad you checked in and that you and Keith are okay. I immediately thought of you when I heard about the bridge collapse.
Haze, I’m sorry you have to deal with that bullshit. I hope you can get it squared away tomorrow.
Drae! It’s good to see you popped in. Congrats on the job!
I am sitting here typing this post using our new whammy-jammy computer. We have to buy a new desk because the CPU is far too large for either of the desks we have. The monitor is far too large in my opinion, but the hubby wanted it. It’s a 24 inch flat screen.
The nice thing about this PC is that it is QUIET. I can’t even hear it running. I’m serious. The computer that we’re booting upstairs was so freakin’ loud that I made everyone keep the den door shut when they were using it.
One more work day then I am FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE for two weeks. Friday, however, will be filled with many errands in preparation for our trip to Sunbanks Resort.
I guess I don’t have anything new or interesting to post. Or, if I do, I can’t remember it, so it can’t really be all the new or interesting.
Nighty-nite everyone.
No - I think it’s actually traditional to garnish with a sliver of lemon peel, which should be peeled over the glass to capture all the escaping oils. I like olives though, ‘cause like **Swampy **pointed out, it means your snack and your beverage are conveniently present in the same portable receptacle.
Sometimes I have a few teeny slices of aged cheddar with a martini though - it’s an occasional special treat. Nothin’ wrong with a naked martini though.
My beer was sorta Miller by association - I had a Spaten Optimator (my beer of choice) which is now owned by the Spaten-Löwenbräu-Gruppe. Lowenbrau was until recently brewed under license by Miller in the US. I think I just invented a new beer game for Swampy’s sake: “7 degrees to Miller Beer”.
Morning all, you’ve been busy and chatty again while I’ve been indulging in beerverages!
FCM - the camera is quite safe from vandals, it’s inside the house and films from an upstairs window directly onto the car. Sounds a bit over-cautious but car crime is rife where we live.
RoyalBear - it’s just the scummy area we live in! It used to be quite an up-market area but in recent years the whole neighbourhood has changed, and not really for the better. I live in hope that it will improve one day.
Drae - you have a real job? Woohoo! We should be partying to celebrate.
Haze - stick to your guns about the amount they’re paying you. How else are you going to fund your beer habit?
We were out last night enjoying a couple of pints of Nottingham Brewery’s Extra Pale Ale which went down very well. 'im indoors stuck to his favourite pint of Bathams Best Bitter, actually it was more than just a pint! No wonder he’s feeling trashed this morning. I’m just tired, he woke me up in the early hours getting into bed (and snoring thereafter). Honestly, I don’t mind being woken up in the night, but for once could it just be for something good?!
Drae, gratz on the job; BooFae, ouch on getting the car keyed and gratz on catching the unbred lifeform whodunit.
You guys really don’t want the details on the family bizness last week: Mom’s been telling me about some of the riffraff that went on while I was elsewhere two-three times per conversation and every time it’s a slightly different version. Suffice it to say that I’m very glad I could sleep at Lilbro’s, cos if I’d been at Mom’s I might be on the newspapers for matricide, grandmatricide and grandpatricide. Plus one count of “littering the terrace of the 1st floor neighbor with humanoid remains.”
Today the sun didn’t come out; that combined with the tiredness from last week to leave me asleep until 8:30. I was supposed to have a telephone meeting at 9:00, but when faced with a choice of not showering (I really needed a shower bad), not having breakfast and running over for a meeting where I really wasn’t needed, or doing things properly… I couldn’t be arsed. Specially since I have a physical meeting with those same people this afternoon and the time means I’ll miss lunch (why the frak can’t they combine both meetings?) plus my normal hours are supposed to be 10-6 plus I have been told I will have to do some remote work on days when I’m not working (the clients can’t be arsed do things right; I’m supposed to look for their errors, fix some of them and give them lists of others).
I’ve gone from “doing our best within the limits of physics” to “your lack of foresight and responsibility isn’t my problem.”
My manager has sent a short email asking where the hell was I at 9 and why didn’t he get the list of errors from yesterday. Well, duh, I’d never copied you on the list of errors, here, have a forward
Good morning mmpers. So far Ma has heard from most of our realatives and they are all ok so far. We are concerned for my cousin Katie, haven’t heard from her yet and also my friend Sandy and her dad. Hopefully will hear something this morning.
Now to get ready for work.
Hope your family and friends are all OK, McUne. I also immediately started thought of Dopers I might know there. Immediately thought of taxi and KeithT since I was sure that they lived in the area. I kept looking back at the thread to see who was checking in. There sure are lots of us there, aren’t there?
Funny link, rosie.
Hope the pay stuff gets cleared up today, Hank. Do you have anything in writing that says how much they agreed to pay you? Hope there are other places where you can teach instead. Sure doesn’t sound like a place you want to work very long if you can help it.
Sounds like you need to sleep to get over the week at home, Nava. At least the grandparents have gone home now, right?
Yes…I thought you were being unnaturally quiet, swampy.
Well, I’m procrastinating again…gotta get ready for work and get the heck out of here…
GT
yawns and rubs the crust from his eyes
Anyone ever say that mornings suck? That phrase should catch on.
Hello, Mumpers, dumpers, and speficically humpers (let’s not forget about the jumpers, though).
Hope your days go well, except for rosie and gt (and soon to be Dotty), may your days be filled with merciless teasing.
You kids and your beers…
Up. Skimmed. Hugs, yays, awws etc, as appropriate. Off to buy bug spray then row a canoe down a river. This will build teamwork and cohesiveness they tell me.
Caffeinating. Too early for pronouns.
::gives LOUNE a power wedgie::
Martinis with olives are the most vile drink ever created. I’d rather drink Miller Lite.
MagicEyes that’s what I was thinking too - Sunday afternoon should be good. Coming back Friday afternoon, though, I’m expecting the worse.
A wedgie with a tube sock?
