Does anyone remember the beer commercials with the mysterious Penguin from awhile back? It should be around the mid 90’s. The Penguin would always utter his catchphrase “Doobie Doobie Doo.”
Anyone remember what beer company it was for? What was the basic premise of the commercials, it was a series of them. Wasn’t the Penguin always trying to steal the beer? Anyone have any video of the commercials? Thanks.
Screams incoherent profanities at AMP and starts throttleing him/her
DIE! DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE!!!
STUPID PENGUINES MUST DIE! S:EW*$T^)*YH
calms down
I worked at spensers gifts one winter… We sold beer mugs that played “Shoobie doobie doo, BEWARE OF THE PENGUINE!”
EACH TIME you lifted the mug up.
So all shift I’d hear it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
Yeah, Bud Ice…we used to goof on a buddy of ours who was a Pittsburgh PEnguins fan by creeoing up behind him an chantlong softly…“Doo Bee Doo Bee Dooooh”
The way I heard it was that the Pens were the only team not to go along with Bud’s advertising campaign, since they had advertising from Iron City beer. They wouldn’t post any Bud advertising in the Civic Arena.
As a result, Bud poked a little fun at the Pens by using the penguin in the commercial.
Admittedly, this story somewhat resembles an urban legend, but it sounds plausible.
I think it’s an urban legend. Having never attended a Pens game at the Igloo, I can’t verify this, but someone I know in Pittsburgh says the Bud Ice commercial was a big hit on the Jumbotron.
I always assumed they were basically ripping the penguin/villain idea from Wallace and Gromit. Don’t have any evidence, though, just the penguin in the commercials reminded me of the one in The Wrong Trousers.
I miss that commercial.
It was one of my favorites. Much better than those frogs. Although I did like the frog about the time the weasel came along.
Along with the “calls are comming from inside the house” one I like the one where he was hiding out in the stereo speaker and they look over and find it’s…unplugged!!!
