I did not go to college. However, I can spell chemical and engineer. Plus I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

Sorry. Carry on.

Ahh…but you gave yourself away with the “Holiday Inn” bit, you see. We engineers only stay at Sheratons, Inter-Continentals, or Adam’s Mark’s. Only lepers, circus freaks, and journalists stay at Holiday Inns…
(just kidding)
(Yes, I did get the “Holiday Inn” joke, and it made me LOL)
Una, who stays at lots of Holiday Inns IRL…
My unsolicited 2 ¢ and all purpose Professional Opinion™ is that professional opinions should be avoided unless directly asked for. If you are truly knowledgeable in a given field, you should also be able to state your case in such a way that it will make sense to the reader regardless of your credentials.
No one wants to get the smackdown with accusations of and argument from authority fallacy. Unless, of course, a professional opinion is specifically solicited (eg “Medical advice needed: my nipples burn.”) Credentials serve to give you the tools necessary to formulate a coherent and persuasive argument, they do little in and of themselves.
Waverly, questionable authority of indeterminant specialization
