Best industrial/electronic song?

Well, I’ve been really into industrial music lately and have started a couple threads on it. In reality, they were leading up to this one.

What do you think is the best industrial/electronic song? I guess we can include pure techno, but I’m mostly thinking about industrial/electronic music. Do what you want.

I figure we can pick one, but have a backup choice if we want. Put who it’s by and you can write as much or as little you want about why you made your selection. Now, for my choice.

  1. D.I.Y. by KMFDM- It’s on their Adios album and is simply amazing. It stands for “Do It Yourself” and actually mixes orchestra with heavy electronic beat. Weird? Yes. Great? Oh yeah.

My backup pick: Stigmata by Ministry

Absolute Best All-Time Song Hands Down

The Arch - Ribdancer

Anything But Records is the label. The history of industrial/electronic/EBM in one song. Hard to find, which just makes it cooler. Danceable too.

Please, nobody argue with me. I’ll give you a pat “music is subjective” rebuttal, but I’ll really be thinking “You weren’t even there man, you couldn’t find the scene with a map!”

Omg…where to begin…so many song…soo soo soo many song…i’m gona have to trim it down a bit…to just three…ack!

1.Front242-Cage/Animal
2.Einsturzende Neubauten-Head Cleaner
3.Coil-The First Five Minutes After Death
ok…maybe a couple of more, i am not satisfied with just three!
4.VnV Nation-Solitary
5.Funker Vogt-Killing Fields
6.Wumpscut-Embryodead
7.Throbbing Gristle-Hamburger Lady
8.Cabaret Voltaire- Why Kill Time When you can Kill yourself?
9.Download-Mother Sonne, Glassblower
10.Skinny Puppy-Smothered Hope, Addiction, Inquisition, Worlock.

Ack…must stop…too many songs to name in one thread…:frowning:

I love this song! I like the whole FUCK UP EVIL OFF duo of CDs, but those are the best! though as I said, I like it all - Serial Killers don’t Kill and Crushed are two that I love to listen to as well. I have weird but fun memories associated with those two

I can’t pick a favorite song in this or any music type, but to name a few (no particular order):

1.Stillborn - Unit 187
2. Theives - Ministry
3. Assimilate - Skinny Puppy (I know I know, this one is almost mainstream to some people, but I still love it!)
4. Cannibal Song - Ministry (the whole The Mind album, really)
5. Seach and Destroy - FLA (Millennium album - great all around)
6. Cuncussion - FLA

Oh, I don’t know. These are the ones coming to mind at the moment, but I suck as song names, particularly when listening to other music, like I am now!

Don’t recall off the top of my head (and don’t have the soundtrack handy), but my personal vote would have to be Blood Techno (extended Mix) from Blade.

My backup would be Coil’s “first 5 minutes”

Front 242 - Headhunter 2000
Ministry - Burning Inside

And although it really isn’t INDUSTRIAL perse, I’ll say

Steelrose by Project Pitchfork, that’s almost pure techno.
[sub]I know, I’m surprised I didn’t mention them either![/sub]

Ok, you guys already nailed some of my favorite pics.

And Mnemosyne, you seem to grow cooler with every post.

My favorites pretty much depend on what I am listening to at the moment. I saw Foetus a few weeks ago downtown, so I have been listening to Gash non stop. Nothing beats Mighty Whity on that album for unadulterated, percussive evil.

I’m crazy about Tin Man, an awesome techno/industrial label. Several of my favorite bands record with them, especially Android Lust and I, Parasite. A random trawl on the internet shows what some rather classy people have to say about them:

About Android Lust:

Refuse is one awesome song, but I prefer Where Angels Lie. Downright haunting and magnificent, with a lovely touch of malevolence.

Maybe Shikhee will marry me someday.

About I, Parasite:

Flesh To Take ends with a twisted harmony of a pipe organ and howling. Definitely worth checking out.

Funkervogt, love them or hate them, is classic. I have to second Halber’s nomination of Killing Fields. And with other lyrics like “Shaven pussies fuck much more horny” and “She told me that she was 16, but she was really just 11,” Funkervogt will always have a place in my juvenile heart.

As for VNV Nation, I simply do not understand why they have gotten so much bad press. Synthpop they may be, but their good songs are downright brilliant. Ascension will be playing in my little corner of Valhalla when I die.

So many more great tunes, so little time.

MR

BTW…Tin Man Records.

I’ll third the votes for Funker Vogt.

Does anyone have the lyrics for King For A Night?

We Came To Kill and Shaven are great songs Maeglin. I’d do anything to see Funker Vogt live.

anything.

Damn right they are. FV also takes way too much shit for being too repetitive. But if I could be as funny and goddamned cool as they are, I’d be repetitive!

I’d love to see them live, but I don’t quite have your German fetish.

Omg…i love you guys!

oh man…i totally forgot to mention this. Has anybody gotten the new Project Pitchfork…fucking brilliant cd! Their best, by far!

Right now my favorite electronic song is Palmistry, by Tabla Beat Science.

Front 242 - “HeadHunter”
Nitzer Ebb - “Fun To Be Had”

Einsturzende Neubauten - Haus der Luege
Ministry - Stigmata

Studi

Now that brings back some memories. A college room mate of mine was way into Industrial stuff. Besides the bands mentioned here Nurse With Wound and Psychic TV were big with him.

Maybe you can help. There’s a song that I’ve been looking for for years. It may have been by Coil.

Lyrics I remember

  • Fear is the jailor locking my love away
    a shifting slow beginning
    another restless day*

It was slow and haunting, almost sounded like a monk chanting. He had a compilation album with that song on it. Name that tune. Please.

While no one other than myself has actually heard this song, my vote would be for:

Anne Clark - Sleeper in Metropolis

It was way ahead of it’s time, and still is in many ways. (Don’t get any of the remixes, they just don’t have the right feel to them)

The studio version of Anne Clark’s Homecoming (not the Live Utrecht version) is still a fave as well, heh heh.
