Best of the Guy Movies

Damn near any movie in which Clint Eastwood wears a cowboy hat … particularly if it’s Italian (the movie, not the hat).

Since most of them that I thought of were listed, I’ll throw in Commando. Most generic plot ever, with classic action hero dialogue.

“What did you do with Sully?”
“I let him go.”

Groundhog’s Day: Apparently it’s a guy movie. A lot of men love it.(including me). Women don’t seem to get it.
Shane: Okay, maybe he was a bit too pretty, and short. But he was fast. Fast on the draw.
Straw Dogs: We men can relate to the nerd who gets picked on, but has a bear trap. Supposedly it’s deeper than that, but who cares?

I’ll have to say that pretty much anything by John Carpenter fits this category. Add to that Dumb and Dumber, Top Gun, any of the Conans, BeastMaster, and Army of Darkness.

I love like 90 % of these movies, and I’m a girl. Guy movies are way better than chick flicks, stuff happens in guy movies. I’m with you all.

Excaliber

Oh and Con Air.

Funny, we were just watching that, and I was thinking the same thing.

You’re not a gurl, you’re a doperchick. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m going to vote down The Thing, The Fifth Element, Lawrence of Arabia, Dumb & Dumber, and Groundhog Day (no idea where you live that you can’t find a woman who likes Groundhog Day.) While these might be movies that universely attract men, they aren’t detestible to women and in fact liked by many.

So far I would say that mrsmith537 has the best list.

Oh, and +Animal House.

Tombstone

Last Man Standing is a guy movie. Just not a popular one.

You’re hanging out with the wrong women.

I second everything cormac262 said, and add:

The Hustler (Jackie Gleason and Paul Newman both did their own shots)
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (Best opening sequence EVAR and too many good lines to count)
Animal House
French Connection
No Way Out
Hunt for Red October
The Heist
Young Frankenstein
Confidence

Any Three Stooges short feature, with Curley.
Curley Joe or Joe De Rita are heresies, Shemp is OK, but he ain’t no Curley.

I’ll nominate Bullitt for the bad ass Mustang/Charger chase seen.

I’ll also put up, Cool Hand Luke, one of my all time favorite movies, because nothing says macho like sticking it to the man and eating 50 hard-boiled eggs for a bet.

The Max Max movies
From Dusk Till Dawn
Evil Dead/Army of Darkness
Ichi the Killer
Escape from <major cities>
Die Hard 1 & 2 (maybe 3)

I feel compelled to second this one. I’m very disappointed in myself for not posting it earlier when I nominated Bloodsport.

I think that it has been pretty well established that John Carpenter does Guy Movie pretty much perfectly.

I’ll add…

Apocalypse Now
Hell Is For Heroes
Bad Day At Black Rock
The Dirty Dozen
Beavis and Butthead Do America
(most females I know hate those characters)
The Long Riders (actually, most of George Roy Hill’s films)
**Slapshot
The Man Who Would Be King
Dark Star
Thunder Road
**

Versus, by Ryuhei Kitamura. The character list alone should give you a good idea:

The Man
The Girl
Motorcycle-riding yakuza with revolver
Crazy yakuza with amulet
Red-haired assassin
Long-haired female assassin
One-handed cop
Samurai warrior
Short-haired female assassin
Yakuza zombie in alligator-skin coat

Basically, it’s got gangsters, zombies, samurai, gun fights, fist fights, sword fights, car chases, BIG guns, time travel, martial arts, demons, and a jailbreak. So over the top and completely deadpan that I nearly wet myself laughing.
