Best of the Rest of the Top 40: 2009

We’re closing in on the present day here, and, at 2009, the point where (IMO) pop music started getting good again. We have 28 songs qualifying for this poll, two of which are carryovers from 2008.

What’s your favorite?

You are correct that 2009 is when pop music starts getting good again, although it won’t be reflected in these Best of the Rest of the Top 40 polls until 2010. I have a pretty good idea which song I’ll vote for, but I don’t want to make my pick until I have a chance to listen to the songs I don’t recognize.

Circus is tolerable.

3OH!3. It’s terrible and awesome all at the same time. Not my style, but I have no regrets.

I went with Pitbull. I understand I may be the only one, but I’m okay with that.

For me it’s Beyoncé 111%.

Very tough when it came to decision time, lots of goo songs. For voting it came down to Kevin Rudolf, Kanye West, Drake, Sean Kingston and Lady Gaga. Other lesser songs I like on this list are Shinedown, Jeremih, Beyoncé(one of her good hits), Soulja Boy Tell Em, Taylor Swift, and the Fray.

“Circus” fails for me, though it is catchy. I voted for Ms. Spears in 2009’s #1 songs.

The Kid Cudi song reminds me of Barack Obama and I remember him mentionin on TV that he liked it around the time he was inaugurated.

I voted for “Let It Rock” by Kevin Rudolf.

Waking up in Vegas is a good song. Got my vote.

In a tight contest, I picked “Run This Town” over “Let It Rock.” Other lesser contenders included “Heartless,” “Use Somebody,” “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho),” and “Halo.” Before voting, I predicted that “Use Somebody” would be leading, and my prediction proved correct.

In dead-ass last place, “Circus,” “Party in the USA,” and “Hot n Cold,” all produced by rapist motherfucker Dr. Luke, all get AUTOMATIC ZEROS in the world-famous Ponch8 Music Rating System. (I may be missing one or two more, but those would get automatic zeros as well.)

It was mostly a question of which T-Swizzle song to vote for - I went for the whimsical Pleasantville Americana of You Belong With Me over Love Story.

I find it an endless source of personal amusement that I’m a fan of both Tay-Tay and Raping A Slave-era Swans

I could also have gone for P!nk.

I must have heard at least one of those sometime but for the life of me I can’t remember a single one.
