What’s come before: Appetite for Destruction, GN’R Lies, Use Your Illusion I
You know the drill. As many as one choice is allowed.
As far as I’m concerned, this is the weaker (much weaker) of the two Use Your Illusion albums. But YMMV.
Vote away.

Locomotive, mostly for the wicked guitar sound and the vocal effects on Axl’s voice in that one. Civil War is probable a better song overall, but…I just love that opening riff. Ah, how I miss early 1990’s music. There was so much energy in the rock scene then.
Okay. I’ve been going through the album track by track over the last several minutes, and maybe I was a bit hasty (read: wrong) when I characterized the album as being full of filler (most likely, I was thinking of the tracks “Get in the Ring” and “My World”, two of the absolute lowest points in GN’R’s musical oeuvre… though the “Get in the Ring Motherfucker” t-shirt I got when I first saw them back in 1991 (before the Illusion albums were even released) is pretty boss). I still prefer I, granted, but there are more good songs on this album than I initially remembered.
Tough pick between Locomotive and Estranged, both 9 minute epic songs (the latter of which has one of the best music videos EVER MADE), but Locomotive just rocks harder. And it’s full of train metaphors.
I LOVE My World & Get In the Ring, but I’d hardly consider them “best” songs. They’re proof that Axl does have SOME kind of sense of humor!
I prefer II to I, but I consider it a double album (and even have it as a 2 disc album in itunes) and listen to it as such.
Was having a tough time deciding between You Could Be Mine, Civil War, and Pretty Tied Up. Decided on the first because of the killer drums and guitar, but all three are great songs.
The two best songs on the album. “Estranged” is awfully good, too, but is better in concert than on record.
I went with Estranged, primarily because Slash’s solos and melody are chillingly beautiful.
I chose Knockin’ on Heaben’s Door, because I’m a big ol’ hunk of cheese.
Civil War is the best GnR song ever let alone on this album. What a great track. This album is far better than UYI1.
After “Don’t Cry” is done playing, I always jump up from whatever I’m doing and race to stop the CD before “My World” comes on. I usually don’t get there fast enough, but I detest that song.
If I had to choose, I’d say Don’t Cry first, Locomotive second, and Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door third, although, for me, this album doesn’t measure up to UYI1, and is woefully inferior to Appetite…
Finally, some sense is spoken.
That is seriously one of the worst songs of all time.
Someone also mentioned Get in the Ring as bad, I don’t think it would be bad if not for that whole “im going to list a bunch of people that said bad stuff about us and tell them to fuck off” rant in the middle.
You Could Be Mine was my choice, I mean, it’s John Connor’s favorite song, how can I not vote for it. Plus it’s the song that mad me buy this album, and this was the first GnR album I bought. Sentimental favorite! Plus it’s a good song.
