"Bet you can't eat just one Lays potato chip?" What if it's chicken and waffle flavor?

Some of these experimental flavors are pretty good, or at least worth a try. But once I ended up buying a “mystery flavor” Doritos that turned out to be Mt. Dew. Gah, those were terrible: The sourness would have been overwhelming, except that the gagging sweetness overwhelmed it, too.

Mountain Dew Doritos? Ugh…that is…just…ugh. I think vaguely remember hearing about those. There was also the hamburger mystery flavor one, too, IIRC. That one was actually pretty good, in my opinion. Tasted like a McDonald’s cheeseburger to me (so if you hate McD’s cheeseburgers, you won’t like 'em. I remember the Doritos having a distinct dill flavor to them.)

I remember eating my Uncle’s Potato Pancakes when I was a kid.

With butter and maple syrup.

We were from Vermont, so we put Maple Syrup on most everything.

I wish I had that Potato Pancake recipe. They were good.

Yeah, those were decent. They mostly just tasted like cheese, pickles, and mustard, but that’s enough to evoke the essence of “cheeseburger”. Plus, you know, those flavors actually go together.

In fact, it was the memory of those that inspired me to give another “mystery flavor” a try.

Artificially meat flavored anything just doesn’t sound right to me.

Unless were talking Bacon Cheddar in a spray can on some Ritz. THAT I can get behind.

Oh, the Doritos Late Night Cheeseburger flavor! I LOVED those! I miss them so much. I haunted the snack food aisles at every store in vain for ages, hopelessly searching for that shiny neon on black bag. No luck. Gone forever.:frowning:

Pringles had a reduced-fat BBQ flavor that were excellent, I don’t think they make those any more.

Chicken and waffles is a dish??? Where? Is it breakfast or what?

I most associate it with LA or New York. Chicago has its places, too, although it seems to only have hit its stride recently, but I can’t speak 100% to that–it may just have flown under the radar for me. Like here’s an NYC rundown of the best 5 chicken and waffles places in the city. The best I could find is apparently it started in the 30s in Harlem, then moved to LA.

It’s not really a “breakfast” thing, but an any time kind of thing, as far as I’ve seen it. I’ve only had it for late lunches myself.

Have you tried the Herr’s Stadium Dawg or Sloppy Joe flavors? I really liked the Stadium Dawg, but haven’t opened the Sloppy Joe bag yet.

As far as Lay’s, I really like the Spicy Ketchup flavor. The BLT flavor was disgusting, should have left the L out.

Haven’t tried the newest ones yet although I did buy the Chicken and Waffles and Cheesy Garlic Bread one. Haven’t found the Sriracha ones yet.

I love novelty flavors but I feel like none of the new Lay’s flavors are “bold” enough to cut it. I suppose they need to find a delicate balance between being interesting but still palatable to the mass market, but I ate a couple of each type and was done.

I don’t think I’ve ever had actual chicken and waffles, but I have had turkey and waffles. In my family, it’s one of the standard ways of using up Thanksgiving leftovers. It’s mostly a dinner food, but then again, so are ordinary waffles with maple syrup.

we got it in Phoenix, as well. Lo-Lo’s Chicken and Waffles. It’s on the other side of town so I haven’t eaten there, but it gets good press. The Mrs. White’s golden Rule Cafe mentioned in passing has been a soul food mainstay for fifty years.

My one word review of these chips would be: YUCK!!!

Way, way too sweet with just the barest hint of chicken flavor. Threw the rest of the bag away. Disgusting!

I had not heard this. :frowning: Where is the 'hood place?

PA Dutch chicken and waffles are the only way to eat them, IMO. I’ve never even imagined the concept of combining fried chicken and waffles with maple syrup. It seems weird and scary to me.

It’s quite nice, but I love salt + savory + sweet combinations, like pancakes, maple syrup, and breakfast sausage.

Then I bet I just can’t eat one.

I saw some masala flavored chips, but didn’t buy them. When I went back to get them later, they were gone.

The problem for me was that the cheeseburger ones just tasted like pickle with a bit of mustard. Nothing else. For what it’s worth, they tasted EXACTLY like a pickle with some mustard.
