And on these boards, once you’ve learned that a particular poster will never concede any point or really learn anything from you or other posters but just continue to spew their own point of view {no matter how clear it is that they are wrong} and they make snide sarcastic remarks, then you’d better respond to them only for your own entertainment. If you continue to engage them then you’ve got no real gripe. It’s your own dam fault.

I’m not up for banning folks like BM, or BC or DT. Their posts are enough evidence of their value as members. If you don’t like talking to them then don’t. They do at least add some variety to our membership.

Man… have you seen some of his more recent bullshit? That idiot still can’t figure out that science isn’t religion, that we don’t have saints or gospel tracts, and evolutionary theory now has, well, evolved since Darwin. Dumb punk is referring to people as “Darwinists”.

Ahhh, I see your point. Thing is, I don’t have any problems at all with people who find meaning, even deep life-changing spiritual meaning in the Bible. Hey, I like Nietzsche and Joyce, who am I to say that someone else has to have the same favorite authors? What gets me, though, is not just that he finds value in the Bible (as tom and poly both certainly seem to), but that he’s dishonest and a troll in support of his literary pleasures.

You are probably right. I had attempted to get him to at least admit that he was wrong on a few points, and/or hit him hard enough with a cluebyfour to get him to consider the epistemological basis for his claims. That, having failed, led to the Pit thread we’ve got now.

Eh… he takes us bandwidth, and clutters up discussions that might otherwise be troll free. And while, of course, the DNFTT rule is a very good one, I don’t think that addresses the problem in full.

Ignoring trolls is a good start… but kicking them the fuck out is a much better one, again, IMO. I also don’t see any value in adding such variety to our membership. Not all the permutations of intellect and character necessarily add anything to the community. And trolls, of course, deserve nothing but to have their 15 bucks taken and their membership annihilated.

I would be surprised if most of us really object to extreme opinions if they are honest opinions shared with civility. That’s not what we get from BibleMan. He cannot distinguish between fact and opinion. And in factual matters, he is a source of ignorance. That is not in keeping with the purpose of the SDMB.

I know now that I am not the only one who has questioned whether it is a feigned ignorance or if possibly BM has two identities and argues with himself. What happens to a thread if a troll feeds a troll? (This is pure speculation on my part. I am not accusing.)
