'Ello, Bible Man. How are you doing this evening? You’re doing well, I hope. Want a pop or a cup of hot joe or a sandwich? Please help yourself.
I asked you in because I was hoping we might discuss your posts in this thread on whether non-Christians are doomed to hell in the view of Christians. I haven’t posted too much in that thread myself, as I haven’t a dog in that fight, but some of your arguments seem, well, arrogant to me. Now, admittedly, I am sometimes a bit arrogant myself, as anybody who’s read my no-longer-amusing-even-to-me rants on Peter Jackson and Dan Brown can tell youl; so in a sense I’m definitely the naked man in a glass house throwing stones at Mary Magdalene.
But I like to think that the things I’m arrogant about are trivial. The things you are arrogant about are not. Your insistence that your interpretation of the Bible is the only one with even a muon of correctness in it is so cocksure it should be crowing at dawn. You refuse to note when your opponents make valid points. You insist that the only persons to whom the Holy Spirit ever communicates are yourself and persons whose opinions mesh exactly with yours. You make errors of logic so flagrant that Captain Kirk could use there mere mention of your name to sabotage androids.
This is not good witnessing, Bible Man. Humility is supposed to be a prime virtue of Christians, but there is very little in your posts that indicates any familiarity with that trait. I suspect that your haughty insistence that you have a monopoly on “the Truth” (to say nothing of your obscurantist bibliolatry), does nothing to bring people to Jesus. The only persons you impress are persons who already agree with you; while persons who might be wavering are more likely to be repelled by your mendacity and obscurantism.
Remember that verse in Job when God asks the hapless protagonist where he was when God laid the foundations of the Earth? Job wasn’t there – and neither were you. Stop acting as if you were.
Wow. Just…wow. Bible Man. You have exactly zero idea of:
[li]the Bible actually says.[/li][li]What the verses you’re referencing actually refer to.[/li]What you’re talking about.
The true purpose of a Pit thread is not to change the Pitee, tomndebb. That never works. It is to vent one’s own irritation and to amuse the villagers. 'Sides, my last such thread, about Bible Man’s atheist twin brother, got enough traction for both.
That thread is WAY more than six pages long. I was going to request that it be closed days back, but it’s morphed into a discussion on the ontological arguments for theism, albeit one with a lot of people cradling guns under their jackets. Anywhistle, people seem to be enjoying themselves, so I figured asking that it be closed when I don’t much care is uppity.
Skald the Equal Opportunity Pitter: First the obnixious athiest BadChad and now obnoxious bible-thumper Bible Man. Hmm. What’s the common thread here? Keep up the good work, Skald.
Agreed. It’s without question that this pitting is a manifestation of the Truth. We should all seek to find the Truth that it may lead us in feild of daisies and all that.
Bible Man is an obfusifatory moron, who is particularly good at circlular arguments and avoiding clear debate. He doesn’t effectively separate the scripture he is quoting from his own opinions, sometimes making it hard to tell where Jesus stops and opinion begins. Probably because he thinks that his mind is a part of the bloody canon.
At least Badchad had the sense not to tangle with him for a prolonged period of time. Had those two “debating” styles become entangled it might have destroyed us all in the mutual annihilation.
Henry VIII once said, “God and my conscience are perfectly agreed.”
In a sense, I’ve always had a bit of envy towards folks with that sort of attitude. It must be enormously comforting to know that you’re always right, to never have to second-guess your actions.
You’d think so, wouldn’t you. Speaking from a little experience of this particular arena, it’s actually quite wretched; you have to continually fabricate rationalisations as to why the real world doesn’t conform to your description of it. Miserable.
I think his point was - could you link to some of his posts? Because I sure as hell won’t read six pages of what Christians think (or more likely, don’t think) of me as an atheist.
Protectionism, of course. I’m supposed to be the obnoxious one.
What makes you think I know how to link to a specific post? I can barely turn the computer on & off without electrocuting myself. Also, I stupidly thought thought Bosca was referring to my pitting of badchad, not the thread I linked to in my OP.
But anyway, Anaamika, since it’s you, check out this post of Bible Man’s:
or this one
He’s not obnoxious in the sense of being crude or overtly insulting; it’s the obscurantist attitude that vexes me.
