I was responding to @Smapti’s The Hill article.
The poll you reference that she does the same as Biden right now. I would expect that honestly. I just see more upside.
Of course I don’t know.

There seems to have been a shift with respect to this in the past year. Heck, not long ago I was debating with other Liberal Dopers that Harris would be fully viable in 2028. Now, however, she seems to be much better liked and respected. Why, exactly, I’m not sure. I can only speculate that my own opinion has been correct: she’s been excellent since the beginning and only dissed for bullshit, surface-level reasons, such as her laugh, etc.
If she gets the nomination I would expect her polling to rise as well once she gets center stage.
What would happen if a Nobel Peace Prize winner were to show Joe to the door?
He’d go through the door.
i was listening to a podcast with Bill Maher on it. You may know that he’s been calling for Biden to drop out for months now, and he’s just come up with a new metaphor (his old metaphor was that he’s “Ruth Bader Biden,” hanging on out of inertia and stubbornness.) This one goes: "America wants ‘new.’ This administration is a sit-com that’s been running too long, and we want some new characters. If Biden decided to drop out of the race, I do think that anyone who runs for President in his place will do better than he would–Harris, Beshear, Newsom, Whitmer, Shapiro, in any combination. A fresh face is what’s needed, above all, and Biden can devote the last few months of his administration kicking ass and taking names. Go, Anybody!!!
I’d just add all these news article from people openly calling and “secretly” calling for Biden to drop out are likely coordinated in some way to continually build pressure on Biden to drop out. It’s no indication that Biden has decided to drop out.
While it feels to me like Biden is out/will be soon, I need to remind myself nothing is suggesting he has decided that. It’s just pressure.
OK, guys, this is it: Kos just wrote this:
UPDATE: Thursday, Jul 18, 2024 · 12:13:19 PM CDT
Today the dam seems to have burst, with news reports claiming even former President Barack Obama is telling Biden he can’t win. Biden’s situation is now untenable. He won’t be our nominee.
Game over, guys!
Another musing on Biden resigning immediately, and why it would be awesome:
It’s a big fuck you to the racist misogynist mutherfuckers we’re gonna beat: Hey, here’s our first WOMAN president. Here’s our first BLACK WOMAN president. Suck it UP!!!
And that will be historical and awesome. The downside would be, had he done it in the middle of, say, his next term, was that she didn’t really win under her own steam. But the beauty part is that she does immediately get to do that!
And even if she loses, we still have our first woman and Black woman president. It’s a win-no-matter-what scenario, IMO.
Also Asian (Indian-Jamaican heritage).
I know. But she seems to identify mainly as Black.
By the way, seeing Trump get his dick knocked in the dirt by a WOC will be extremely fucking absolutely delicious!
I am in 1000% agreement with all of your opinions, but I would beg of you please between now and November - no more predictions or “guarantees”.
Then we’re fucked. Get ready for 4 to 40 more years of President Trump.
Have I used the word “guarantee”? If so, mea culpa. There are no guarantees in life.
I think Kamala Harris has a very strong chance of beating Trump. I wouldn’t bother to make a post on it, since that’s the election itself and not a special take on anything. I won’t start another political thread unless I think I have something interesting and different for us to talk about.
40? Only if they animate his corpse for the last 30+ years of that time frame.
Why? There’s a chance of losing, but I have not seen polls saying we’re fucked in this scenario, nor have I heard talking heads on our side say we’re fucked in this scenario, nor have I even heard fascists say that they welcome this scenario. If anything, they seem afraid of it.
I don’t see this at all, considering that Biden was already polling badly against Trump before the June debate.
All of this, 100%. I had my reservations about Biden’s low approval numbers (for many, many months); I knew they were a bad sign. But with the good SOTU performance, I thought we could muddle through. Of course, I also thought Trump would be dealing with the deficits of being (possibly) put under house arrest. I didn’t realize his side-stepping of ALL consequences, with no sentencing and documents trial dismissed, would burnish his image as God’s Chosen Candidate.
Now: we are hopeless. But a Harris + Centrist VP ticket could change the story massively. Energy; youth; hope. We must have this if there is any chance of defeating Mr. Dictator-on-Day-One.
Speed the day.
He has offspring; perhaps, like Charlemagne, the territory will be divided among them.
No, “guarantees” was my word in air-quotes. I was just referring to the two prior threads is all (and admitting to my being very superstitious).
