Another thought, and this is just my personal opinion:
I think seeing Biden resign and Harris become president will be extremely demoralizing to the fascists. Why? It’s almost as if she will win a kind of election before the election. IOW, she gets to be president and occupy that seat of triumph–just because!
IOotherW, they will think, “Biden doesn’t get to be president again–HAHA!–because we’re gonna beat 'im? Oh what the fuck, there’s a new Democratic president–right now?! A WOMAN!!! She didn’t even have to WIN, not fairrr. Oh fuckkkk!”
No, but “40 years” is extreme hyperbole. Hell, even 10 probably is. Trump is already 78, and is overweight, with a terrible diet, and serious anger-management issues. I have a difficult time seeing him living to 88, much less 118 (which would make him the oldest documented man ever).
I’ll let y’all decide how solid a source that Twitter is. I think I recognize this name Mark Halperin though. Not sure what “Biden will not endorse Harris” means exactly.
BREAKING NEWS: Multiples sources outline the apparent state of play on Biden at this time:
plans to announce withdrawal from nomination as early as this weekend, with Sunday most likely
Jon Meacham polishing up remarks
Biden with NOT resign the presidency
Biden will NOT endorse Harris
open convention with Harris and about 3 others
super delegates will not be allowed to vote on 1st ballot
Harris is vetting at least four possible running mates, including Andy Beshear and possibly Shapiro
Yeah, I think the chance of Trump being able to finish another term, considering the shape he is in currently, is approximately 0%. His cult member seem oblivious to his issues, however.
By which point the New York Times and Jon Stewart and Bill Maher were already openly plotting against him.
If you watched the debate and your takeaway was “I guess the blatant lies Trump has been telling about Biden for 5 years now were right all along”, then yes.
Sure, but on a somewhat unrelated note, I could see some feminists being upset about the first woman president in US history rising to that office not by votes, but by promotion-via-resignation. Kind of robs the moment of its historic glory.
I think if he gets out then we can get through this. But one has really seen his character flaws, including stubbornness, on display lately. I hope that shit isn’t true.
I’m not sure that everyone understands how a party candidate gets on the ballot. I’d guess that many people think it’s their vote that gets that person on the ballot. If three candidates are voted on at the convention, I would expect a lot of low-info voters would resent that they didn’t get to cast a vote for the candidates. They could feel like the election was stolen from them. I’d expect the Republicans to amplify the message that the Dems are destroying away democracy by doing backroom deals to pick a candidate rather than letting the people decide.
Yeah. As you said, if he gets out this stuff will fade away. And of course some of it could be ascribed to known effects of aging on the brain (stubbornness, combativeness and so on).
He should think on the example of Nancy Pelosi. She stepped aside voluntarily and thereby made herself a respected elder who is still vitally significant to her party. Her advice is sought, her wisdom celebrated, and her legacy lauded.
If Biden drops out, the ONLY possible candidate would be Kamala Harris. They cannot skip over her. So it looks, to me, like it will end up being Donald Trump against Kamala Harris.
